I have few kind words for religion anymore, so many reading this may take some offence. Religion is a deeply personal thing, and it cuts to the heart when it is challenged. I will understand any anger you may have.
Like most, I was brought up in the faith of my parents, which for me, was Christianity. Southern Baptist to be precise. A rather conservative branch which preaches hellfire and damnation. I had a tough time swallowing this even as a young child.
There is an old saying that says it is good to be born in a nest, but bad to die in one.
What is religion, if it is not the nest where our spirit first learns of it's nature? Religion has a purpose, but for many like myself, it could not reach as far as I could see. I am thankful for what it did for me in my early years, but as I have grown in both age and wisdom, it is painfully clear to me that I was mislead. It was all well intentioned, by well meaning people. However, as the bible says, if the blind lead the blind, then both will fall into the pit.
I see the greater part of humanity being lead towards this pit. Once again, with good intentions.
Religion, when it is young, is sweet as nectar as it flows from the mouth of the one chosen by God to speak it to the world. But as soon as the master passes from this earthly existance, time beguns to rust and corrupt that which was once pure. Well meaning diciples often add their own embellishments and style as they retell their master's words over the years. This eventually causes a loss of direction just like a compass can be slightly deviated by a tiny piece of iron. As centuries pass, this only grows worse. So much so that no matter how faithfully you have followed this religion, or that one, the original direction has been lost. Religions can take you down their road to heaven, but none of them have the key which opens the gate.
That is where the world stands today.
Religion has become like old vines, that produce little in the way of spiritual fruit. They should all be torn up by the roots and discarded.
Religion has become the plaything of politicians and greedy people. It has become a social club of like minded people. It has become a rotten apple, which now threatens to destroy the entire basket of humanity. It has become an excuse for war.
We are all God's children. We have never needed religion to approach our maker. If anything, religion has become the biggest obstacle for those that seek the creator. Most all faiths have some kind of messiah figure that will appear in the future. So let me put this to you:
The messiah, no matter what your faith, will come to cleanse the world of ALL these dead and dying beliefs. His lessons will be one of approaching God directly. He will show you that the kindom of God, and all the riches within, is within you, even now. And he will teach humanity how to get there in simple words that even a child will understand.
Say goodbye to all the priests and temples of this world. Their days are numbered.
