Yes, I know. I'm in the minority.
But let's examine a few things before you judge me too harshly.
If I were sitting atop one of the world's last great oil reserves, would I not want the best protection available to make sure nobody took it from me by force? Its a dangerous neighborhood. You've got zio-nazis in on one side. You've got neocon imperialists on the other. They both have nuclear weapons. You don't.
If Iran were just a poor country, with nothing but sand and goat herders, we would not give them the time of day here in the west. Thats the truth. The west sees Iran as a threat, not because they have the intent on invading neigboring countries or strikes on the USA, but because they have the ability to turn off their oil heading to western nations. As with Iraq, the US has the intention of controlling this oil.
It is plain to see that the west gains it's power from the ability to mobilize it's military forces. All this power runs on petroleum based products. Our very way of life here, is also dependant upon a constant flow of oil from all available sources.
Can you imagine the instability that would occur it this flow were interrupted? Riots at gas pumps. Cost of food will skyrocket. People will freeze because they can't afford to stay warm, etc. It goes on and on. So no, the US will never allow Iran to cut off it's oil. The only way to insure this, is to take control of the oil fields ourselves.
This snake has two heads. The first, is what I just mentioned. The second...lets now bring in Israel. The gains for Israel is that it gets another large buffer zone and another one of it's enemies gone. They will no doubt share in the oil as well. Not too bad for a nation that relies on the last superpower to do it's dirty work.
So, if I were Iran, I would want the only known weapon to keep other nations from misbehaving towards me.
Iran has a mouthy leader and stiff old men standing in the shadows telling him what to do. This is going to change. President Ahmadinejad is a young lion. This lion will someday eat these old men and bring a new era to Iran.
I see Ahmadinejad as more of a nationalist than a religious zealot.
Until that day comes, Iran need to protect itself from those that would do her harm. Besides, of all the nations that have nuclear weapons, how many of them ever asked anybody's permission first? Its a little late to start with Iran.

maaan. I could never have said it better than that.
It is really an ugly picture to see all those nations flying around Iran like eagles waiting for a week moment of the pray. if Israel can have it why not Iran...period...
They always talk about double standards, well look in the mirror and you will see those double standards.
anyway..thank you for the clear description

To deny Iran the nuclear power is hypocritical, Israel has the bomb and its much more of a threat to the region than Iran, India and Pakistan have the bombs too, Iran has every right to protect itself against those who want to do her harm.
