wa alaikum salam at the end

assalaamu alaikum ala manitabal huda,

There is a slight problem with saying wa alaikum salam at the end of a conversation, letter, email,etc. How can another Muslim reply when what was said was already what is the sunnah way of replying a person's salams? The meaning is basically the same, but we should stick to the sunnah insha' Allah.
