Michael Jackson's mother sues concert promoter AEG over singer's death

  • Suit says promoter put profits before Jackson's safety
  • Damages sought for oldest son Prince Michael's distress

Katherine Jackson

Katherine Jackson is suing AEG Live of 'putting its desire for massive profits' over the health and safety of her son

Michael Jackson's mother and his three children have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the promoters of a series of planned concerts by the singer before his death last year.

The civil lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by Katherine Jackson, accuses promoter AEG Live of 'putting its desire for massive profits' over the health and safety of the 'Thriller' singer.

It said that AEG was liable for the actions of Jackson's personal doctor and alleged that the promoter had failed to provide proper life-saving equipment for Jackson.

'AEG's action and inactions led to Michael Jackson's death on June 25, 2009,' the lawsuit said, accusing the promoter of negligence, breach of contract and fraud.

A spokesman for privately held AEG Live, a subsidiary of the Anschutz Entertainment Group, said he had not seen the lawsuit and could not comment.

Jackson died of cardiac arrest at age 50 in Los Angeles in June 2009 after returning from rehearsals just days before the planned start of 50 London concerts.

Los Angeles coroner's officials have ruled Jackson's death a homicide and said he died mainly from a powerful anaesthetic used as a sleep aid, as well as other sedatives and painkillers.

'The purpose of this lawsuit is to prove to the world the truth about what happened to Michael Jackson, once and for all,' Katherine Jackson's lawyer Brian Panish said in a statement.

The singer's personal physician Dr Conrad Murray, who was hired by AEG Live, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death and is awaiting trial in Los Angeles.

Michael Jackson children

Damages are also being sought for emotional distress on behalf of Jackson's oldest son, Prince Michael, right, who the lawsuit said had witnessed his father injured and dying. Also pictured here the singer's daughter Paris and son Blanket

Jackson's family have previously expressed disappointment at the criminal charge against Murray, saying it does not go far enough. The singer's father Joe in June filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Murray but did not name AEG.

Kenny Ortega, director of the planned 'This is It' series of concerts, was also named as a defendant in Wednesday's lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages.

The suit claims that Jackson appeared drugged and disoriented at rehearsals in the days before his death and that on June 24 he was shivering.

AEG, it claimed, was aware of his condition but did not postpone any rehearsals or alter his 'gruelling schedule.'

The civil action also seeks damages for emotional distress on behalf of Jackson's oldest son, Prince Michael, who the lawsuit said had witnessed his father injured and dying and 'has suffered great trauma and severe emotional distress.'

Jackson's sudden death caused a worldwide outpouring of grief and sent sales of his many hit records soaring after a career slump that had followed the entertainer's 2005 trial and acquittal on charges of molesting a young boy.

Chris Brown breaks down during an emotional tribute to Michael Jackson

By Marcus Barnes
Last updated at 12:28 PM on 28th June 2010

He's found himself at the receiving end of a wave of vitriol since the incident which resulted in an assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

So R&B star Chris Brown has understandably been under a huge amount of pressure in the months that have passed since the attack.

And the 21-year-old appeared to have a cathartic moment during a tribute to his idol Michael Jackson at this year's star-studded BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Black Entertainment Television)

At the close of the tribute, which saw Brown dance to Remember the Time, Smooth Criminal and Billie Jean, Brown attempted to sing Man In The Mirror.

However, he could hardly utter a word as he choked back tears and pranced around on stage, raising his fist to the emotional number before collapsing to his knees - still attempting to get the words of the song out of his mouth.

The audience managed to fill in the gaps as Brown struggled with the song, their help seeming to spurn him to rise from his knees and mouth the words along with Jackson's voice, while gesturing along with the mic as tears rolled down his face.

Finally, as the song closed, Brown walked offstage where he was consoled by Jermaine Jackson.

His surprise addition to the show's line-up came a year after Brown was forced to bow out of plans to take part in the Michael Jackson memorial concert following his highly-publicised bust-up with ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

So, Brown's BET performance was no doubt a long-awaited opportunity to pay tribute to his idol.

Later in the show he admitted he'd disappointed himself at losing control of his emotions during the routine.

Collecting the AOL Fandemonium award (voted for by online fans) he said: 'I let ya'll down before, but I won't do it again. I promise.'

And his emotional performance was well received by his peers.

Hustle And Flow actress Taraji P. Henson, who mouthed her support for Chris as he exited the stage, commented: 'He was so vulnerable. I love you Chris!'

While the winner in the Best Male R&B Artist category, Trey Songz, said: 'Chris killed that. He left his heart on the stage. He gave genuine emotion.

'I was proud of him and I was happy for him for having that moment. He did that justice. Everybody's been waiting for that.'

BET publicist Zabrina Horton said. 'Me, personally, I think 'Man in the Mirror' was great for him to do because I'm sure he still feels bad about Rihanna and wants to be forgiven. He has to make that change himself for himself and he knows that.'

Fans voted online to give Brown his award ahead of Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz and Justin Bieber.

The portrait, entitled Michael Jackson's Blue Eye, was shot by French photographer Arno Bani in 1999 and was one of the options for the cover shot of the singer's tenth and final studio album Invincible released in 2001.

The solemn photograph depicts Jackson, who died a year ago tomorrow, with super-smooth skin and a round blue patch of glittery make-up around his eye.

His trademark flowing locks have been scraped away from his face, and he is artfully made up.

Michael Jackson's Blue Eye: This never-before-seen portrait of the late singer will go up for auction alongside 11 other photographs in December

It will be put up for auction, along with 11 other never-before-published portraits of the late singer and 50 contact boards, by Auctioneers Pierre Berge & Associates in December.

Auctioneer Frederic Chambre said bidding for each portrait is expected to start at $1,228.

Parisian photographer Arno Bani claims Jackson contacted him when he was 23 years old, after seeing his fashion photography in a newspaper.

The portrait was unveiled as the world prepares to mark the one year anniversary of Jackson's death tomorrow.

And in a new interview, sister LaToya spoke out insisting his death was no accident.

The singer died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009.

While he is believed to have died following a cardiac arrest, Jackson's death remains shrouded in mystery with his family believed to be planning to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the singer's doctor Conrad Murray.

Murray has also pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter and is awaiting trial.

In a television interview, Jackson's sister LaToya insisted the Thriller singer's relatives and fans now deserve "the truth" about his death.

And she alleged he was murdered because he was 'worth so much more dead than alive'.

Asked whether she believed the star was murdered, she said: 'I never had a doubt. You must remember from the day that I found out that Michael was no longer with us, when my mother screamed 'he's dead' on the phone, I just went into this, 'Who did it?"'

The singer's death, on June 25 last year, sparked a litany of conspiracy theories.
But his sister insisted: "Michael was murdered for his catalogue - that's the bottom line.

'He was murdered for his catalogue and they knew that, and they knew Michael was much more, worth so much more dead than alive.

'His children deserve the truth. I think his parents deserve the truth, his family and his fans.

'Personally I think it is a slap in the face, not just to Michael but to the entire family. It's totally unfair, it's wrong and it was not an accident.'

LaToya once caused a storm by publicly distancing herself from the star and condemning him for his alleged behaviour with children.

But she now claims her 'management' made her read a statement out to the world's press, without knowing what it said.

This morning she told GMTV: 'I always wanted the world to see Michael the way we did. He was such a good-living, caring, kind person.'

Describing her mother's grief after Jackson's death at the age of 50, she added: 'I could see the pain and the sorrow in her eyes. But she was strong - she chose not to cry and I think she chose that for the children.'

Meanwhile, Jackson's brother Jermaine has revealed he believes the singer would still be alive if he had converted to Islam.

He told the BBC World Service: 'I felt that if Michael would have embraced Islam he would still be here today, and I say that for many reasons.

'Because when you are 100 per cent clear in your mind as to who you are and what you are and why you are and everybody around you, then things change in a way that's better for you

Michael Jackson was resuscitated for ten minutes an hour after he suffered cardiac arrest, the Jacksons' lawsuit has revealed.

An excerpt from the document, published in the News of the World, states: 'At 13:21 hours or 1:21pm, the nurses and physicians at UCLA detected a weak femoral pulse and cardiac activity for Michael Jackson. At 13:22 hours he showed cardiac activity. At 13.33 he showed a weak ventricular rhythm (contracting of the lower heart chambers).

It continues: 'Dr Cooper reported that when Michael Jackson was intubated with an endotrachial tube he had good breath sounds and "The initial cardiac rhythm appeared to be wide and slow in the 40s." At 13.52 or 1.52pm he had a pulse of 53 beats per minute, with a MAE complex (major arrhythmic event).'

The 50-year-old's father Joe Jackson believes his son's death could have been prevented by his personal doctor Conrad Murray.

He said to the News of the World: 'This evidence is damning. They should lock him up and throw away the key. It's disgusting what happened here.'

The lawsuit against Murray is a catalogue of alleged decisions made by Murray which Jackson claims led to his death.

These include failing to tell paramedics he had given the singer Propofol - the anaesthetic coroners ruled led to his death.

Search warrants have also revealed large quantities of general anaesthetic and dozens of tubes of skin-whitening creams were discovered in Jackson's home after the singer's death.

Investigators went to his rented mansion on June 29 following a lengthy interview with Murray, who told them he had placed a medical bag in a cupboard in a closet.

At the home, detectives found 11 containers of Propofol, some of them empty, as well as a range of sedatives and various medical items including a box of blood pressure cuffs, according to the warrants.

Jackson's death four days earlier was ruled a homicide caused by an overdose of propofol and other sedatives. Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

During their search, detectives found 19 tubes of hydroquinone and 18 tubes of Benoquin, both of which are commonly used in the treatment of a skin condition Jackson had called vitiligo.

The disease creates patches of de-pigmented skin, and creams can be used to lighten skin that has retained its color to give a more even appearance.

'Some people with vitiligo get to the point where there is so much of them that is pale, it makes more sense to remove the bits that are brown,' said Dr. David Sawcer, assistant professor of clinical dermatology at the University of Southern California.

Benoquin is derived from hydroquinone. Though the creams can be used at the same time, it is unusual to do so, Sawcer said.

The medications typically come in travel-toothpaste-sized tubes and each treatment usually lasts a few months. Side effects include acute sensitivity to the sun.

'In the places they have no pigment, they are exactly like an albino,' Sawcer said.

The discovery of medical creams in Jackson's home dovetails with an odd remark Murray reportedly made soon after Jackson's death.

Dr Conrad Murray faces involuntary manslaughter charges over Jackson's death

Jackson's personal assistant, Michael Amir Williams, told detectives that in the hospital where the singer was pronounced dead, Murray told him he wanted to return to Jackson's house 'so that he could pick up some cream that Mr. Jackson has so that the world wouldn't find out about it.'

Alberto Alvarez, Jackson's logistics director, who was summoned to the stricken star's side as he was dying, told police Murray interrupted CPR on the pop star to collect drug vials.

He gave the vials and an IV line with a milky substance resembling propofol to Alvarez, according to the statement Alvarez gave police, and told him to put them in bags that were similar in description to those later found in the closet.

The skin cream was not listed as a factor in Jackson's death nor was it detected in a toxicology report.

What killed Jackson, according to the autopsy report, was an overdose of propofol, an anesthetic normally used for surgery.

Murray told police he gave it to Jackson to help him sleep, a use anesthesiology experts have said is grossly improper.

Dr. Zeev Kain, anesthesiology department chair at the University of California, Irvine Medical Centre, said he was surprised by the amount of propofol detectives found.

Among the 11 containers police said they found were three 100ml vials, which Kain said could be used as general anesthesia for several hours.

'A doctor should not use propofol at home to start with,' Kain said.

The warrants also show Murray shipped propofol and other medications to his girlfriend Nicole Alvarez's house in Santa Monica. It's unusual to send propofol to a private residence but not illegal.

Most people might have been wondering where the Jackson family was when the 52nd Grammy Awards happened this year, well MJ’s brother Randy Jackson has confirmed that they were “not invited to the awards”.

On Sunday, Michael Jackson was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award at the event, where his children Prince and Paris Jackson accepted the award on behalf of their father who passed away last year June.

“So proud, my brother being honored tonight with the Lifetime Achievement Award,” Michael’s brother and former bandmate Randy wrote on his Twitter page. “My family would love to be there but, truth is, we weren’t invited.”

“Do you want more truth? Let me be clear. When I said ‘my family’ I meant my brothers, sisters and parents.”

Michael’s three children — Paris, 11; Prince Michael I, 12; and seven-year-old Prince Michael II — aka Blanket — were there to honor their father but Randy is convinced the children were only invited as an afterthought.

“Randy was incandescent,” a source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.

“He believed the Grammys only thought of including Michael’s children at the 11th hour as dad Joe Jackson complained there was no family representation. The brothers were hoping to attend and wear their silver gloves and matching suits to honor their brother. They feel insulted and hurt that they have been snubbed in this way. Michael would’ve wanted them there. The Jackson 5 was where the magic began. They’re a huge part of his story and felt they had been horribly overlooked.”

The eldest children took to the stage wearing black suits with red armbands to accept Michael’s award — which he was given for his contribution to the music industry, while Blanket remained backstage with his grandmother Katherine Jackson.

“Michael’s children themselves decided just Prince Michael I and Paris would speak on stage and accept the award on behalf of their dad,” the source said.

Thriller Live, review

Gary Lloyd's high-energy tribute to Michael Jackson's glory days is a thriller without a plot

Ricko Baird in Thriller Live

Walking the walk: Ricko Baird is one of a parade of Jacksons in Thriller Live Photo: Alastair Muir

Jukebox musicals offering a back-catalogue of hits usually follow one of two formats. In a production like Jersey Boys, the story of the band itself, the Four Seasons, supplies the narrative line. Then there are shows like the excellent Mamma Mia! and the execrable We Will Rock You that shoehorn the hits of, respectively, Abba and Queen, into an original narrative.

Thriller Live follows neither of these approaches. Those involved did not think an original storyline was called for, and a bio-drama about the life of Wacko Jacko would be only marginally less harrowing than Oedipus Rex. A grisly saga of abuse allegations, addiction problems, and a chronic cosmetic surgery habit that has left him looking like an exhibit in a freak show are hardly the stuff of a feelgood night out. Bubbles the monkey might have been fun, though

What executive director Adrian Grant and his team have gone for is a glitzy concert of song and dance. It's true that the performers, and the great banks of LED screens, occasionally regale us with statistics about Jackson's amazing career and some gushing tributes are paid between songs on the lines that Michael Jackson "isn't just a recording star, he's also a visionary and an extraordinary human being". No wonder Jackson himself described an earlier version of the show as "beautiful and incredible". Even he probably couldn't quite believe he was on the receiving end of such hagiographical twaddle.

But within its narrow limits, the show works well. What most people like most about back-catalogue musicals is the medley of big hits at the end, and in this show the hits just keep on coming, largely glossing over the fact that in recent years Jackson has become ever less impressive as a pop star as he grows more bonkers and messianic.

More than half a dozen different vocalists are entrusted with the songs, including young Kieran Alleyne as the child star in the Jackson Five.

Among the singers, I was particularly impressed by John Moabi, though he bears not the faintest resemblance to Jackson, and Denise Pearson, formerly of Five Star, who does.

Gary Lloyd, who doubles as director and choreographer, keeps the energy level at fever pitch almost throughout, and his dance routines, featuring daring leaps from an on-stage bridge, break-dancing, and, yes, the moonwalk, are spectacular. There is also a terrific band, ranging with aplomb from funk, soul and disco, through candy-rush pop to guitar-led rock.

In his prime, when he was producing world-conquering albums such as Off the Wall (1979) and Thriller (1982) Jackson really was the king of pop, astonishingly versatile and inventive, and blessed in Quincy Jones with a producer of genius. And by reminding us of Jackson's glory days, rather than the fiasco his private life has become, Thriller Live offers a great night out, though the excessive running time means that it doesn't stop until you've had more than enough.

Mr X, soccer boss in a brothel: His name's all over the internet but British press can't identify manager in massage parlour

By Steve Doughty
Last updated at 12:18 AM on 24th December 2009

Some prostitutes are the victims of human trafficking

Privacy laws have prevented the press from revealing the identity of the football manager who visited a brothel

A married Premier League football manager has been caught visiting a brothel - but the British Press cannot reveal his identity on human rights grounds.

The soccer boss, a family man with children, was witnessed entering and leaving the building on a shabby industrial estate where Thai prostitutes offer sex for £130 an hour.

He is said to have freely admitted that he knew it was a brothel.

Within hours of the story breaking in The Sun, football fans' websites were flooded with speculation about his identity. Many contributors accurately named him and his club.

Yet despite this placing of his name in the public domain in a way easily accessible to millions, newspapers are effectively barred from publishing it because of a creeping law of privacy laid down by judges over the past five years.

MPs and lawyers protested yesterday that the rules of privacy have become an intolerable burden on freedom of speech and are winning Britain an international reputation for censorship and suppression of information.

It has reached the point where the wealthy from abroad are indulging in 'privacy shopping' to shield them from reporting in their own countries.

This month golfer Tiger Woods secured an injunction in London to prevent publication of certain photographs which were not even known to exist.

Yesterday, The Sun published a story telling how the manager spent more than an hour in the brothel, which advertises itself as a massage parlour. He arrived dressed in training clothes featuring his club logo.

Confronted by reporters outside the building and asked if he knew it was a brothel, he said: 'Yes.'

It was said to be his second trip there following an hour-long visit in October.

But if the Sun or any other newspaper published his name, it could face the threat of a hugely expensive privacy action in the courts.

This is despite the majority of the public finding the manager's indulgence in vice immoral and offensive. In addition, a number of deep public interest concerns are raised by the incident.

By visiting the brothel, he could have encouraged a number of crimes or even have committed one himself.

Brothels are in some cases suspected of involvement in selling sex with under-age girls and human trafficking.

Running a brothel remains a serious crime and The Sun suggested that the manager could have opened up his club to the risk of blackmail. MPs and lawyers questioned why the law is now censoring true information before it can reach the public.

Tory MP Phil Davies, a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, which is running an inquiry into privacy law, said: 'The greatest thing is freedom of speech.

My starting point is that the press must be free to publish. We now have privacy law, and privacy is the new libel. The difference is that under privacy law you may not publish things that are true.

My view is that if you are in the public eye, then, like it or not, you are fair game. I am not particularly judgmental about sex, but the papers have a right to publish.'

Lawyer Mark Stephens said: 'We have gone far too far with our privacy laws. There was a concern that the media was becoming more aggressive in its reporting. That has now been swung back, and the law is now being used by the rich and powerful to stifle legitimate reporting.'

Mr Stephens added: 'If one looks back in history at the infamous behaviour of David Mellor, that could not now be reported because of privacy laws. We need to redress the balance. Our courts are now being held in ill-repute.'

A law on privacy - of a kind which has never been approved in Parliament - has grown out of rulings made by judges on the basis of Labour's Human Rights Act, of which one article demands respect for 'private and family life'.

A key moment in the development of the law was a decision by Mr Justice Eady last year. He ruled that the privacy of motor racing boss Max Mosley was breached by the News of the World when it reported that he took part in a 'Nazi-themed' orgy with five prostitutes. Even lawyers who approve of a privacy law have worries over the direction that is now being followed in Britain.

Duncan Lamont, of the Charles Russell firm, said he believed there was no public interest in publishing anyone's sexual transgressions.

But Mr Lamont said there was no objective definition of the law. 'It is very very subjective and that is dangerous.'

Privacy law has been built on the back of the 1998 Human Rights Act, which gives British judges the power to make rulings according to the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Under the current law, even reporting the fact that the manager is in charge of one of the 20 Premier League teams puts a newspaper in danger.

Some or all of the 20 managers could potentially launch a legal class action claiming that narrowing down the individual involved to a small group tainted all of them.

Mystery man: The identity of the Premier League manager has been kept secret for legal reasons

By EMILY ANDREWS, DAVID WILLIAMS and CHRISTIAN GYSIN

It hardly seems a likely destination for a millionaire football boss who wishes to while away an hour or so.

But yesterday a single-storey unit on an industrial estate was revealed to be a brothel visited by the married manager of a Premier League club.

He is alleged to have smiled when admitting knowing the building was a brothel before speeding off in a car.

The manager, who is reputed to earn over £1million a year, apparently made no attempt to hide his identity.

He is said to have previously been seen outside the parlour, which uses Thai and other Far Eastern massage girls, in October when he also spent more than an hour inside.

Ten minutes after he was confronted by journalists from The Sun, his car returned with another driver at the wheel. The driver is said to have 'rushed' into the building before coming out a short while later.

Last night the manager was unavailable and a spokesman for his football club declined to comment. Contacted by telephone, a relative of the the manager also refused to comment, hanging up when the allegations were put to her.

The Mail cannot give the location of the massage parlour since it would help identify the football manager. It is marked 'Unit 1', giving no clue to the nature of the entertainment within. Locals said 'you would have to know it to find it'.

The prefabricated building is in a cul de sac beside a used car dealer and off a busy road. Five CCTV cameras overlook the car park and no doubt would have captured the instantly-recognisable face of the manager as he arrived.

Yesterday a woman of South-East Asian appearance in her mid-thirties answered the door and denied in broken English that the manager had visited. 'We don't do sex here, just a massage parlour,' she said.

A second woman of similar nationality, in her late 20s, in a low-cut pink top displaying her cleavage, could be seen inside the building.

According to The Sun, entry is secured via an intercom on the white PVC front door. The foyer contains a washing machine and a pile of white towels.

A steel-barred gate is said to guard further access to the building. Once this is opened, a corridor leads to a room with mirrored walls where a reporter was met by a girl in a maid's uniform.

Services are said to have been offered at £70 for half-an-hour and £100 for an hour. The Sun reported that the girl stripped to her bra and knickers, at which point the reporter left.

One man who worked in a neighbouring building said: 'We know it is a massage parlour. Two or three girls work there and we see men going in regularly.

They stay for half-an-hour or an hour. The girls are always pleasant when we see them and we have never had any problems.'

He claimed to have seen the Premiership manager visiting, once clambering from a car with blacked-out windows and apparently accompanied by a security guard.

The soccer boss is not the first to be linked to prostitutes. In October 1987, the then Tottenham Hotspur manager David Pleat resigned after claims - always denied by him - that he had been cautioned for kerb crawling.

The latest revelations come at a time of increased concerns over the trafficking of women from the Far East and Eastern Europe to work as 'escorts' and in massage parlours - often against their will.

The last major police and immigration operation against trafficking three years ago raided 373 brothels and massage parlours and resulted in more than 150 arrests.

FBI to release secret Michael Jackson dossier - including fresh information on child abuse inquiries and death threats

By David Gardner

Michael Jackson

Just over half of the 679-page file on Michael Jackson will remain secret

The FBI is set to release its secret dossier on Michael Jackson to the public within the next two days.

The agency plans to declassify 333 pages of the bulky file detailing threats and extortion attempts made against the late superstar.

The documents will also include information about the child molestation investigations into Jackson in 1993 and 2004.

One of the seven files was compiled in London and the others came from Los Angeles and the agency’s headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, about 30 miles outside Washington.

The FBI said it hopes to make the papers available before Christmas, perhaps even as early as tomorrow.

Just over half of the complete 679-page file will remain confidential despite applications for them to be released to the public under America’s Freedom of Information Act.

The documents will not shed any new light on Jackson’s sudden death in June at the age of 50 or on the probe into the possible role of his personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray, in the tragedy.

An FBI source said information about the investigation – including details of the prescription medication being taken by Jackson before his death – was still part of an ongoing inquiry.

The report will include any death threats made against the singer and background into some of the many lawsuits he became embroiled in.

Among the episodes thought to be in the file was an attempt by owners of a private jet company to profit from publicity surrounding Jackson’s arrest for alleged child abuse.

Two cameras were secretly installed in the plane taking Jackson to surrender to police on charges that he molested a twelve-year-old boy.

The FBI was called in after the owners allegedly tried to sell the recording to US media organisations. Jackson was later acquitted of the child abuse charges

Jackson – named by MTV today as the channel’s 2009 News Man of the Year - was not the only pop star to have his own FBI file.

The agency gathered more than 300 pages of information about John Lennon between 1971 and 1972, which later became material for a film and a book called ‘Gimme Some Truth: The John Lennon FBI Files.’

The FBI also compiled 650 pages on Elvis Presley, 89 on Doors singer Jim Morrison, 24 on the Motown Records label and four pages on Grateful Dead star Jerry Garcia.

The agency will be making the Jackson file available on the Internet on its website, http://foia.fbi.gov.

Police Scheduled To Wrap Michael Jackson Death Investigation Next Week

Singer's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, still sole focus.

More than three months after his death, next week might finally bring some closure for Michael Jackson's family and fans. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department is expected to present its case against Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office at that time.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office has been holding the official autopsy results in the Jackson case pending the completion of the LAPD's death investigation. Last week, The Associated Press leaked what is believed to be the coroner's report on Jackson's death, which found the 50-year-old singer to be in overall good health, without any serious issues that should have caused his death on June 25.

Sources have told TMZ that Murray remains the sole target of the investigation. Several of Jackson's physicians have been visited and interviewed by police, but investigators have focused on Murray, who was with Jackson the morning he died. Murray told police that he administered the injections of the powerful anesthetic propofol, as well as other sedatives, that the coroner's office reported caused Jackson's death.

LAPD detectives were reportedly waiting on some written evaluations by medical professionals who reviewed the evidence surrounding Jackson's death, and with those in hand, they now plan to present the case to the D.A. next week.

An unnamed, "well-placed" law enforcement source reportedly told TMZ that because of the complex nature of the findings, there's a "70/30 chance" that the D.A. will take the Jackson case to a Los Angeles County grand jury rather than charge Murray directly, believing that it would be easier to get a grand jury indictment than face a lengthy preliminary hearing. A spokesperson for the L.A. County D.A.'s office could not be reached for comment at press time.

Murray has been the focus of a manslaughter investigation that centers on his actions in the hours before Jackson's death. His lawyer has denied that Murray administered anything that "should have" killed Jackson.

An Associated Press story last week speculated that the autopsy results showing Jackson to be in good health for a man his age and free of illegal drugs in his system could pose a problem for Murray. The coroner has ruled Jackson's death a homicide caused by acute propofol intoxication — which the coroner found was administered without any medical reason — and the autopsy findings negate a potentially strong defense for Murray: that Jackson was hiding serious preexisting conditions that increased his risk of death from the drugs he willingly took and requested.

Jackson fans camp out for tickets to late pop star's film

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Michael Jackson devotees have been camping for days in downtown Los Angeles to get tickets for the debut of a film about the fallen pop star rehearsing for a concert tour derailed by his death.

By Saturday morning about 300 people were ensconced in a queue in front of the Nokia Theatre, where commemorative tickets for debut showings of "This Is It" were to go on sale the first minute into Sunday.

"We don't sleep, we stay up all night," said Leticia Martin, who had staked out a spot near the front of the queue.

The 26-year-old medical technician spent Friday night learning dance moves to Jackson's iconic "Thriller" song from costumed zombies that entertained those waiting in line.

Some fans snuggled in sleeping bags on the concrete, while others napped in folding chairs.

"We're like one big family," Martin told AFP as she scanned the encampment.

Theatre operators expecting a crowd had used metal barriers to cordon off eight rows, three of which were empty leaving plenty of dancing room for a group reminiscent of a small tribe of pop music refugees.

Jackson fans were eager to get their hands on some of the first 500 movie tickets, which the film's promoters said will commemorate "This Is It" concerts Jackson had planned in London.

For some waiting here, getting a Jackson-designed piece of pop music history like the tickets was worth relying on public restrooms and missing work and sleep.

"I was up all night," said Andrew Wynglarz, a 26-year-old bus driver from Southern California.

Wynglarz sat with three friends and proudly recounted having had the good fortune to get inside the nearby Staples Center for a globally-watched July 7th Jackson memorial event.

Brenda Gonzalez said she joined the ticket camp at 3 o'clock Friday morning with her sister and a friend.

"I only slept like four hours, and I sleep 12 usually," said Gonzalez, a 26-year-old unemployed Los Angeles woman who was also among the fans that managed to get tickets for the Jackson memorial.

Fans in the queue expressed surprise that excitement surrounding the pending film release had thus far not matched the huge outpouring of emotion that followed Jackson's death on June 25th at the age of 50.

"It's a movie; maybe if he was still alive...," said Jimmy Lee, a 34-year-old Jackson imitator who performs for tourists on Hollywood Boulevard.

"After the memorial, it all calmed down," Wynglarz added. "This is just like a bonus."

Lee was adamant that people like him who had been camped out for tickets since Thursday afternoon were proof that "People are still reacting to his death. We're still kind of mourning."

About 3,000 tickets go on sale starting early Sunday for the behind-the-scenes concert film's Oct. 27th debut in Los Angeles.

Martin said that the long wait for prime tickets was only the first hurdle and that Jackson lovers would be again queuing for preferred seats inside theaters on opening day.

"We're going to have to get here early," Martin intoned.
