Geri Halliwell was met with boos from the audience when she made her debut as a guest judge on The X Factor on Wednesday.

The former Spice Girls star's appearance at the Glasgow auditions was less than successful, with some fans even chanting for the return of judge Dannii Minogue, who is missing the auditions stage because she is heavily pregnant.

Geri was accused of being 'awful' and her comments 'not making sense' by fans who angrily took to internet forums to vent their feelings about the 37-year-old star.

The singer is reported to have angered fans soon after she began in her role as guest judge, by going against the crowd and refusing to put through a singer called Katie when she had the casting vote.

A source told the Daily Mirror: 'Geri had the chance to please the crowd and many were shouting Katie's name. But Geri ignored them and turned Katie down, causing the crowd to go crazy.

'Eventually they invited Katie back to try again, but Geri never recovered from that.'

She is also said to have embarrassed fellow judge Cheryl Cole by calling her a 'gorgeous, gorgeous girl' before saying they should form a new band, adding: 'We should be Steps or Abba!'

Things quickly went from bad and worse as Geri allegedly later stormed off stage.

One fan wrote on an internet forum: 'Geri was awful. After one audition she left the judges table before being followed by Simon.

'Cheryl and Louis looked bemused while the warm up guy announced that we were having an early break.

'It wasn't until a few auditions in she really started to irritate.

'She also gave irrelevant comments. One person said they were a personal trainer.'

However, a spokesperson for The X Factor said: 'There were reactions from the crowd.

'There were reactions to all the judges as much as there was to Geri.'

 

Geri is the first in a string of guest judges invited in to stand in for Dannii Minogue.

She previously judged on X Factor predecessor Popstars: The Rivals, making her partially responsible for Cole's fame, who was chosen to be in Girls Aloud on the show in 2002.

Joining Halliwell as a guest judge for the live auditions will be Katy Perry, Pixie Lott and Natalie Imbruglia.

Imbruglia will join Cowell, Cole and Walsh at the in Birmingham on Sunday and Monday.

The judges will then travel to London from 21-24 June, Dublin on 28 June, Cardiff on 2 July and Manchester from 9-11 July for the remaining auditions.
