35٪ من السائقين الأميركيين يشعرون بأمان أقل عند القيادة

قال مسؤولون في مجموعة تعنى بسلامة القيادة انه بالرغم من تراجع عدد حوادث الاصطدام في أميركا إلا ان 35% من السائقين الأميركيين يشعرون بأنهم أقل أماناً عند قيادة سياراتهم مما كانوا عليه قبل 5 سنوات.

وتبين في مؤشر "ثقافة سلامة السير" السنوي الثاني الذي أطلقته مؤسسة "آي آي آي لسلامة السير" ان 80% من السائقين يعتبرون ان تشتت الانتباه هو التهديد الأكبر لسلامتهم.

لكن أكثر من نصف الذين اعترفوا بقراءة أو توجيه رسائل قصيرة أو رسائل إلكترونية خلال القيادة أقروا بأنهم كانوا أكثر عرضة من غيرهم للحوادث.

وقال رئيس المؤسسة بيتر كيسينجر "خلال السنوات ال25 الماضية، تسبب حوادث الاصطدام بقتل حوالي مليون أميركي، وكانت السبب في وفاة عدد أكبر من أطفالنا ومراهقينا والراشدين في سن الشباب من أي سبب آخر، أي بمعدل حالة وفاة كل 13 دقيقة".

وتبين ان 90% من السائقين قالوا ان القيادة بعد شرب الكحول كانت مصدر خطر كبير، وقال 87% الأمر عينه عن توجيه الرسائل القصيرة أو الإلكترونية.

واعترف أكثر من ثلثي السائقين بالتحدث عبر الخلوي و21% بقراءة أو توجيه رسائل قصيرة خلال الشهر الماضي.

يشار إلى ان هذه النتائج جمعت بعد استطلاع أجري عبر الهاتف وشمل 2501 راشد أميركي، وبلغ هامش الخطأ فيه 2.5%.

A tow-truck driver who crashed into a car and ended up in a swimming pool was texting on one mobile phone while he was speaking on another, police said.

Nicholas Sparks, 25, admitted he was texting and talking when his vehicle struck the car on Wednesday morning in the upstate Oxford town of Lockport.

One of the cars it was towing flew off and struck a house, crushing the air conditioner and gas main, according to Fire Chief Barry Kobrin.

'It took out three or four sections of fence, and there’s some structural damage to the house,' Kobrin said.

One of the motorcycles being towed flew off the truck, landing underneath the car on the lawn.

The tow truck ended up with its front end in the home’s in-ground pool.

The homeowner, who asked not to be named, said it sounded 'like a bomb went off.'

He was upstairs with his two five-year-old daughters at the time of the crash. When he looked outside and saw the devastation, he said one thought went through his mind: 'I was thankful (the girls) weren’t swimming.'

Police say the 68-year-old Lily White driving the car suffered head injuries and was last night said to be in good condition in hospital.

Her eight-year-old niece suffered minor injuries.

Kobrin said the child was especially lucky to escape without serious injury.

Sparks was charged with reckless driving, talking on a mobile phone and following too closely
