6 آلاف زائر يومياً يكتشفون «1000 اختراع واختراع » للمسلمين في تركيا

اسطنبول -»الرياض» :

    وصل عدد زوار معرض 1000 اختراع واختراع اسلامي الى اكثر من 200 الف زائر خلال الشهر الأول من وجوده في إسطنبول الذي نظمه برنامج مبادرات عبداللطيف جميل الاجتماعية بالاشتراك مع مؤسسة العلوم والتكنولوجيا والحضارة وافتتحه أواخر اغسطس الماضي رئيس الوزراء التركي رجب طيب أردوغان.

ويختص المعرض في كشف التراث العلمي الاسلامي في عالم اليوم والتعرف على دور العالم الاسلامي في تاريخ العلوم والتكنولوجيا والفنون .

وامتاز المعرض الذي يزوره 6 آلاف زائر يوميا بعرض نماذج حديثة لبعض المخترعات المذهلة التي تعود الى العصور الوسطى والكشف عن اتساع تأثير الحضارة الاسلامية في حياتنا الحديثة وتعريف الزوار بالحضارة الاسلامية من فيلم تسجيلي بعنوان « ألف اختراع واختراع ومكتبة الاسرار « حيث أعد الفيلم خصيصاً للمعرض ويعرض على شاشة ترتفع سبعة أمتار ويتخذ الفيلم الذي يستغرق 13 دقيقة أسلوب القصة القصيرة فيرافق بعض الطلاب الصغار في رحلتهم التي يكتشفون فيها الحقبة المسماة خطأ بالعصور المظلمة.

ويقوم الممثل الحائز على جائزة الأوسكار سير بن كينغزلي بدور المهندس الذي عاش في القرن الثاني عشر فيعرف أولئك الطلاب بالثروة العظيمة من المخترعات والابداعات التي شهدها العالم الاسلامي في الحقبة التي امتدت من القرن السابع الى القرن السابع عشر وقد حاز هذا الفيلم العديد من الجوائز الدولية وتم ترجمته باللغة التركية .

ويضم المعرض عشرات من المعروضات التي تبهج الزائرين وتزيد معارفهم، كما يضم ألعابا إلكترونية ومجسمات صممت لتستهوي الصغار والكبار على السواء. وقال رئيس مبادرات عبداللطيف جميل الاجتماعية الدولية فادي محمد عبداللطيف جميل: إن المعرض يلقى إقبالاً كبيراً فاق التوقعات معرباً عن شكره وتقديره للحكومة التركية على دعمها وتعاونها في تنظيمه.واشار إلى أن المعرض يسعى إلى تعريف شريحة كبيرة من المجتمع التركي وزوار مدينة إسطنبول بأهمية الإنجازات العلمية التي تم تحقيقها خلال فترة الألف عام التي كان يطلق عليها فترة العصور المظلمة ليثبت انها على العكس من ذلك فقد كانت زاخرة بالكثير من الابتكارات والاختراعات الإسلامية، متطلعاً أن يساهم هذا التعريف في إلهام جيل المستقبل بإطلاق اختراعات وابتكارات علمية أخرى. يذكر أن مبادرات عبداللطيف جميل الاجتماعية تعمل في الدول التي يكون لشركة عبداللطيف جميل نشاط تجاري فيها ومنها تركيا.

ISTANBUL (AP) - For generations, the lore of "One Thousand and One Nights" helped shape Western notions about Muslim culture. The collection of tales described an exotic world of harems and flying carpets, Sinbad and monsters, Aladdin and the jinn, Ali Baba and the 40 thieves.

Now an exhibition about innovation in Muslim civilization seeks to highlight what organizers say is an overshadowed period of history, a "Golden Age" in which advances in engineering, medicine and architecture laid groundwork for Western progress from the Renaissance until modern times.

In a play on the old stories, it is titled: "1001 Inventions: Discover the Muslim Heritage in Our World."

The show seeks to be strictly academic, and shuns political or religious pronouncements. But the robust response of many young Muslims suggests a thirst for cultural pride against a contemporary backdrop of conflict and suspicion between the West and Muslim countries.

"Originally, it was aimed at the Western public," said Salim Al-Hassani, organizer of the Britain-based exhibition and a professor of mechanical engineering at Manchester University. "But we found that when people from the Muslim world, when they see it, they get fired up, especially the young people who are in search of identity."

It's a slick production, with an introductory film featuring a Harry Potter-like fantasy sequence with Sir Ben Kingsley, the Oscar-winning actor, as a mysterious figure who dispels three skeptical students in a library of preconceptions about the past.

The centerpiece of the show is a replica of an elaborate "elephant" clock that symbolized a multicultural spirit and pioneered modern automation and robotics. It used Greek water-powered technology, and the figures of an Indian elephant, an Egyptian phoenix, a Persian carpet, Chinese dragons and men in Arabian dress.

It was designed 800 years ago by Al-Jazari, a Muslim engineer in what is today southeast Turkey. Other giants of innovation during the 1,000-year period that began in the seventh century were physician Al-Zahrawi, whose innovations shaped European surgery, and Fatima Al-Fihri, whose multi-subject institute of learning, with no gender restrictions, laid foundations for the modern university.

"There is a perception that Islam was always backward and made no contribution to the world of science," said visitor Sule Seda Tezer, who was especially pleased to note the high profile of women in the displays. "The West has a phobia about Islam. I think there is an effort to break the phobia and build better ties between the East and West."

With 40,000 followers, the "1001 Inventions" Facebook page echoes her enthusiasm. "Come to Algeria!" and "we are waiting 4 u in Damascus" are among the posts. From Saudi Arabia, Abdull-Kareem Andeejani wrote:

"Will you ever come to open in Riyadh? Please? I want to know more of my own history, I see it as highly important to look back in time, so that we can pick up what we have forgotten."

The exhibit has interactive features designed to attract children, and details research in optics, music and algebra from Muslim civilizations that once encompassed parts of Europe and ranged as far as China.

One curiosity is a replica of the flying machine of Abbas ibn Firnas, who constructed a winged framework near Cordoba in Spain and flew briefly before injuring himself. Centuries later, Leonardo da Vinci worked on his own flying designs.

In Istanbul, at least 6,000 people a day _ up to twice that on weekends _ file daily into the exhibition tent in front of the former Byzantine church of Haghia Sophia, and near the fabled Blue Mosque, built during the Ottoman Empire. The display coincides with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan; the tent stays open until 3 a.m. to welcome a nocturnal crowd. There is no admittance fee.

The project was created by the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation, an academic group based in Britain. Funding came from the Jameel Foundation, a British charity linked to Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd., a Toyota car distributor based in Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition had a successful run at the Science Museum in London earlier this year, and will move to the New York Hall of Science after ending its seven-week Istanbul stint on Oct. 5. It arrived hurriedly in Turkey after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan saw it in London and said he was eager to host it.

"There was an attempt to impose a history that jumped from ancient Greece straight to the Renaissance period," Erdogan said at the opening ceremony last week. "Later on, some Western scientists made a praiseworthy effort to acknowledge the contributions of Islamic civilization to the history of science."

Erdogan leads an Islamic-oriented government that has cut away at the power of traditional elites with a strongly secular background. He has also sought to elevate the memory of the Ottoman Empire, whose attempts at Western-style reform failed to stem its collapse in the early 20th century.

Ehsan Masoud, author of "Science and Islam: A History" and editor of a research policy newsletter in Britain, said scientific innovation in Muslim lands began to decline as Islamic empires grew weak and poor, and Western colonial powers expanded.

"It's fair to say that history is written by the victors," Masoud said. "Quite understandably, Western nations are hardly going to start crediting the people they've defeated."

Harrods sold to Qatari royal family for £1.5bn as Mohamed al Fayed announces his retirement

London department store Harrods has been sold for £1.5billion following owner Mohamed al Fayed's decision to retire.

Just weeks after insisting the exclusive Knightsbridge store was not up for sale, Mr al Fayed reconsidered and agreed to an offer from the Qatari royal family.

The new owners were chosen because they would 'maintain the traditions of Harrods'.

Ken Costa, chairman of Lazard International which advised the al Fayed family on the deal, said: 'After 25 years as chairman of Harrods, Mohamed al Fayed has decided to retire and to spend more time with his children and grandchildren,' he told Sky News.

He has built Harrods into a unique luxury brand with worldwide recognition.

'In reaching the decision to retire, he wished to ensure that the legacy and traditions that he has built up in Harrods would be continued, and that the team that he has built up would be encouraged to develop the foundations that he has laid.

MOHAMED AL FAYED

Egyptian born multimillionaire Mohamed al Fayed is one of Britain's most high-profile businessmen.

The 77-year-old set up a shipping company with his brothers in Egypt in the late 1950s before setting up offices in London and moving to Britain in 1974.

Al Fayed and his brothers purchased a 30 per cent stake in the House of Fraser, which included Harrods, in 1984 and bought the remaining stake from business magnate 'Tiny' Rowland after a bitter, long-lasting battle.

Al Fayed's UK business interests include the Premiership football club Fulham FC, which he bought in 1997.

His wealth was recently estimated at £650million.

He is also well-known for his 10-year campaign to prove that Princess Diana and his son Dodi, who died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, were murdered in a conspiracy.

These claims were dismissed in the 2008 inquest into their deaths.

Despite living in the UK for more than 30 years he has repeatedly been denied a British passport.

'Qatar Holding (QH) will become only the fifth owner of Harrods since its creation, in 1840. Qatar Holding was specifically chosen by the Trust as they had both the vision and financial capacity to support the long term successful growth of Harrods.

'Of paramount importance to Mohamed al Fayed was to ensure that the Harrods staff would find in QH an owner who would be supportive of their efforts to maintain the traditions of Harrods.'

Qatari prime minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani was given a short tour of the store by Mr al Fayed today and declared the store would be made 'even greater and better.'

He said he was 'very happy with the transaction', and continued: 'It's a historical place. I know it's important, not only for the British people but it is important for the tourism.

'What I can assure you is that Qatar Holding will do their best to upgrade this monument to make it even greater and better for the tourism and also for the British people.'

He said the responsibility of owning 'a very important monument' was a 'heavy burden', and within three months the new owners would create a 'road map' to make Harrods 'more impressive'.

Asked if he had ever shopped at Harrods, he joked: 'If the shop will have customers like me I don't think Harrods will make profit, but maybe if it's my wife, yes.'

Mr al Fayed, who is not normally publicity shy, stood to one side away from the cameras as the prime minister addressed reporters.

It is understood that Qatari Holdings made an approach for the store several weeks ago but Mr al Fayed rejected the offer.

At the time Mr Al Fayed insisted the store was not for sale, but would not confirm or deny that any bid talks had taken place.

However the owner of Fulham FC had reconsidered the approach.

In March Harrods admitted it had written to staff to reassure them that the business would not be sold in the face of ' gossip' about a potential deal.

At the time a Harrods spokesman said: 'We do not comment on rumours or speculation. That is neither to confirm nor deny that any discussions have taken place to sell the store.

'However, for some time we have been aware of gossip circulating over a possible sale, and we took the decision to reassure staff this morning that this was not the case via a store-wide announcement.

'We are happy to confirm that Harrods is not for sale and is not being sold.'

Harrods was founded in 1834 as a wholesale grocery shop in the less than salubrious Stepney area of East London by Charles Henry Harrod, who had a special interest in tea.

He moved, in 1849, to a small shop on the site of the current store to escape the crime and vice of the East End, and to capitalise on trade from the Great Exhibition of 1851 in nearby Hyde Park.

The current store stands on a 4.5 acre site on Brompton Road in prestigious Knightsbridge, and has more than 1m square feet of selling space, spanning more than 330 departments.

Harrods is not the only Western trophy asset to interest the Qatari royals.

The state investment arm also owns 26 per cent of Sainsburys, 15 per cent of the London Stock Exchange, 7 per cent of Barclays, and 24 per cent of Canary Wharf developer Songbird Estates.

أهدى نسبته من ملكية النادي والبالغة 10% إلى الجماهير

    قدم رجل الأعمال الإماراتي سليمان الفهيم ، رئيس مجلس إدارة نادي بورتسموث الإنجليزي ، اليوم الاثنين في دبي ، استقالته رسميا من رئاسة النادي الإنجليزي. وقال الفهيم لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية (د ب أ) "سأرسل الاستقالة للنادي الإنجليزي خلال ساعات قليلة، بعد أن اتخذت قراري عقب الجلسة التي جمعتني اليوم بالمحامي روبرت هامل من مكتب المحاماة الإنجليزي "ماير برون" وأيضا الألماني هولجر هيمس المستشار المالي الخاص بي في حضور عدد من المستشارين الماليين والقانونيين.

وفجر الفهيم مفاجأة حيث أكد أنه سيهدي جماهير نادي بورتسموث نسبته في ملكية النادي والبالغة 10%، على سبيل الهبة. وأعلن الفهيم أمس الأول السبت في تصريح حصري إلى (د ب أ) عزمه تقديم استقالته في حالة عدم التوصل لحل يرضيه خلال اجتماعه مع مستشاريه القانونيين والماليين والمقرر عقده فى إمارة دبي. وطالب هيمس أيضا الفهيم بسرعة تقديم استقالته من رئاسة بورتسموث والعمل على إخراجه ماليا من النادي بعد أن ساءت الأوضاع المالية للنادي.

وأرجع هيمس نصيحته للفهيم إلى عدم وجود شفافية في التعامل المالي داخل النادي وسوء الإدارة وكذلك الاستماع لنصيحة المحامي روبرت هامل بالإضافة إلى خشية إعلان إفلاس النادي الإنجليزي في الفترة المقبلة مما يعرض إدارة النادي للعقوبات.

وقال هولجر "أرفض الطريقة التى يدار بها النادي ، وخاصة سياستهم الجديدة في بيع اللاعبين نظرا لاحتياجاتهم المادية ، مما أثر سلبيا على أداء الفريق والذي يحتل المركز الأخير بالدوري الإنجليزي حاليا".

أمين أباظة من واشنطن ل "المساء": لا يحق للوليد بن طلال بيع الأراضي في توشكي موافقة الحكومة شرط البيع والتنازل

أكد أمين أباظة وزير الزراعة واستصلاح الأراضي انه ليس من حق الوليد بن طلال التصرف في الارض التي وقع عقدها مع الحكومة المصرية بالبيع أو التنازل لان العقد شريعة المتعاقدين. قال الوزير في اتصال هاتفي مع "المساء" من واشنطن ان العقد بين الحكومة والوليد ينص علي شراء الوليد اراضي في توشكي ولا يحق لاحد الطرفين الفسخ أو البيع الا عن طريق الحكومة والوليد لا يحق له التصرف فيها بالبيع أو التنازل. اضاف لسنا في خلاف مع الوليد أو أي شركة أخري من شركات الاستصلاح ولكن ليس من المعقول ان يمتلك اكثر من مائة ألف فدان ولا يقوم الا بزراعة خمسة آلاف فدان فقط. أوضح الوزير أننا أكدنا اننا لن نسحب الأراضي من الوليد وانما سوف يتم توجيه المياه الي مناطق جديدة في الزراعة وقادرة علي الاستصلاح فليس من المعقول أن نضخ ملايين من مترات المياه في أحد الافرع دون الاستفادة من تلك المياه ونحن سوف نوجه تلك المياه لشركات قادرة علي الزراعة والاستصلاح مثل شركة الراجحي والشركة الوطنية المصرية وبعض المستثمرين من الإمارات واستطاعت شركة الراجحي زراعة 20 ألف فدان في وقت قصير. من جهة أخري اكد مصدر مسئول بهيئة التعمير والتنمية الزراعية ان الوليد بن طلال حصل علي كل هذه الاراضي بسعر 50 جنيها فقط للفدان. من جهة ثانية اكد د. محمد نصر الدين علام وزير الموارد المائية والري ان جملة ما استصلحه الوليد بن طلال الف فدان فقط وانه وعد بانشاء محطة للطلمبات لاستصلاح 4 آلاف فدان نهاية هذا العام ليصل حجم الاراضي التي استصلحها 5 آلاف فدان. قال الوزير إن الوليد بن طلال وعد بأنه في ظرف ثلاث سنوات سوف يقوم باستصلاح 30 ألف فدان أخري. اضاف ان ملف الاراضي تابع لوزارة الزراعة وان الوزارة لم تطلب منا قطع المياه عن اراضي الوليد بن طلال وان علاقة الزراعة والري ممتازة ولن يشوبها أي شائبة والعلاقات حميمة بين الوزارتين وقد قرر امين اباظة وزير الزراعة واستصلاح الاراضي منح وزارة الري شقتين في شرق العوينات لتكونا مقرين لمهندسي الري لمباشرة الاراضي هناك.

حول العالم

العالم بين شفاف وساتر

    منظمة الشفافية الدولية تصدر كل عام تقريرا سنويا لتقييم مستوى الفساد في العالم (يتراوح بين 10 درجات لقمة النزاهة ، ودرجة واحدة لقمة الفساد والمحسوبية) ..

وآخر تقرير صدر قبل أيام تضمن 180 دولة تم تقييمها على أساس تقديرات الخبراء واستطلاعات الرأي العام وتقارير المستثمرين والشركات العالمية .. وفي هذا العام تصدرت الدنمرك ونيوزيلندا والسويد قائمة الدول الأكثر نزاهة في العالم ( بمقدار 9,3 درجة من 10) في حين احتلت مؤخرة الترتيب كل من الصومال والعراق وميانمار وهاييتي وأفغانستان (بأقل من درجة ونصف من 10) !!

أما بخصوص الدول العربية فاحتلت قطر المركز الأول عربيا (و28 عالميا) والإمارات المركز الثاني عربيا (و35 عالميا) في حين جاءت سلطنة عمان في المركز 42 ثم البحرين في المركز 43 ثم الأردن في المركز 47 ثم تونس في المركز 62 ثم الكويت في المركز 65 ...... !!

ومن الملاحظ أن تقرير هذا العام ركز على رأي المستهلكين في المؤسسات الخاصة والقطاع الخاص وما ينبغي فعله لتشجيع نزاهة الشركات. وتأكد له في النهاية أن الفساد في القطاع الخاص يشكل مصدر قلق للرأي العام حيث يرى نصف من تم استفتاؤهم عالميا أنه قطاع فاسد لا يتردد في استغلال المواطن والمستهلك العادي (ومن منا لا يملك تجربة مؤسفة مع هذا القطاع) ...

وبطبيعة الحال الفساد المالي والإداري ظاهرة موجودة ومتوقعة في أي مجتمع أو مؤسسة عالمية (وهذا ليس عذرا بالمناسبة) . ولكن الفارق الحقيقي يكمن في وجود أو عدم وجود آلية لمكافحة هذا الفساد والحد من تغلغله وانتشاره . ففي الدول المتقدمة تتوفر آليات فعالة وشفافية مطلقة تكفل فضح مظاهر الفساد ومكافحة أسباب ظهوره . أما في الدول النامية فيؤدي غياب الأجهزة الرقابية واحتكار السلطتين التشريعية والتنفيذية الى طغيان الفساد بكافة اشكاله (ناهيك عن حقيقة أن كل ما يحدث في الخفاء يجنح للفساد) ...

غير أنني (في المقابل) أؤمن بأهمية وجود خط حماية مواز لا يقل فعالية عن تفعيل الأنظمة الرقابية؛ فقاعدة الهرم (في النزاهة) تُبنى على الحس الأخلاقي والوازع الديني لدى المواطن ذاته .. فمؤسسات الدولة أو القطاع الخاص تتشكل في النهاية من أفراد (مثلي ومثلك) حين يرتفع لديهم مستوى النزاهة والأمانة يرتفع بدوره في أجهزة الدولة والمؤسسات الخاصة.. أما حين تنتشر مثلا الرشوة والمحسوبية وسرقة المال العام في أي مجتمع (وينظر إليها الناس كقدر لا يمكن تغييره) فمن الطبيعي أن تظهر سلبياتها على أجهزة الدولة وقطاع الأعمال ومناخ الاستثمار ..

.. فمن الملاحظ في المجتمعات النامية بالذات أن عامة الناس يسلّمون بفساد المسؤولين وينظرون للأمر كقضية محسومة وظاهرة يصعب مكافحتها .. بل يلاحظ أن معظم الدول النامية وضعت (أسوة بالدول المتقدمة) أنظمة لمكافحة فساد الوزراء والمسؤولين ولكن المسؤولين عن تنفيذها إما فاسدوي بدورهم ، أو يميلون لمبدأ "الستر" و "عفا الله عما سلف" !!

وفي مجتمعنا العربي بالذات تزداد ظاهرة المحسوبية ومحاباة الأقارب وأبناء العشيرة وتوريث المناصب .. ولو نظمت حملات رقابية مخلصة لفوجئنا بمستوى القرابة التي تجمع بين الموظفين في أي دائرة حكومية لدرجة تحول بعضها لمجلس قبلي مغلق . وحين يتغلب مبدأ القرابة والتزكية (على مبدأ الكفاءة والموهبة) يصبح تدني الإنتاجية وانعدام الكفاءة صفة ملازمة لأي مؤسسة أو دائرة حكومية !!

وفي المقابل ؛ حين يرتفع حس النزاهة لدى المواطن (كما تشير التقارير الرقابية في سنغافورة وفنلندا والدول الاسكندنافية) يصبح من الطبيعي أن يمتد هذا الأثر الإيجابي على القطاعين الخاص والعام وتحتل هذه الدول قائمة الدول الأكثر نزاهة وشفافية وتنافسية في العالم!!

على أي حال ؛

قد يكون هذا آخر تقرير "شفاف" أتحدث عنه بالتفصيل هذا العام ... ربما بسبب إحباط التقارير السابقة .. وربما بسبب ثبات المراكز العربية .. وربما بسبب تقدم اسرائيل المعتاد على الدول الاسلامية ... أو ربما لأن هناك من نبهني بأن أخلاقنا العربية تمنعنا من مراقبة كل "شفاف" يشف عما تحته ...

Chandrashekhar Krishnan, Executive Director of Transparency International UK said:

“We welcome this robust action by the SFO and now expect the Attorney General to consent to a prosecution. It sends an important wider message to UK plc that bribery does not pay and has serious consequences. Although the legacy of massive bribery allegations in relation to the Al Yamamah Saudi defence deal still remains with BAE Systems due to the ongoing US investigations, it is important that these other cases are thoroughly scrutinised. The decision to seek a prosecution after years of rumour and allegation means that we will finally know the truth.”

Transparency International UK believes that the resolution of these cases will be a major boost to UK law enforcement. The swift enactment of a new anti-bribery bill and more resources for prosecutors will greatly strengthen that fight.

النزاع حول ثروة أغنى امرأة في آسيا يدخل أيامه الأخيرة

هونغ كونغ (د ب أ):

    تقترب معركة قضائية بشأن ثروة نينا وانغ التي تقدر بمليارات الدولارات وهي أغنى امرأة في آسيا والتي تركت أموالها لصديقها في وصية محل نزاع من نهايتها في هونغ كونغ حيث يقدم محامو الجانبين دفوعهم الختامية.

وحظيت القضية باهتمام إعلامي في الصحف التي تصدر في هونغ كونغ منذ أن بدأت في مايو الماضي حيث جذبت أنظار الرأي العام بقصص عن حب سري وخداع وطقوس "الفينج شوي" وهي فلسفة صينية قديمة تعني التناغم مع البيئة المحيطة والتصالح مع النفس من أجل العيش بدون توتر.

وتتركز القضية على وصية المليارديرة وانغ رئيسة امبراطورية تشايناشيم العقارية والتي توفيت عن عمر ناهز 69 عاما بسبب سرطان المبيض في عام 2007 تاركة ثروتها التي تقدر قيمتها بنحو 13 مليار دولار لتوني تشان الذي كان يعلمها فلسفة "الفينج شوي."

وبعد 38 يوما من إحالة القضية للمحكمة علمت المحكمة من المحامي الذي يمثل أسرة وانغ من خلال مؤسسة "تشايناشيم" أن هناك "دليلا قويا للغاية" بأن الوصية التي وقعت عام 2006 مزورة.

وزعموا أن وانغ كانت حالتها خطيرة بسبب إصابتها بالسرطان في الوقت الذي جرى فيه إعداد الوثيقة ولم تكن بصحة جيدة للتوقيع على أي وصية.

وعلى الجانب الاخر قال محامون يمثلون تشان /48 عاما/ إن وانغ اتخذت قرارا مدروسا بكامل وعيها لترك الثروة لتشان.

وقالوا إنه صديق وانغ لمدة 14 عاما.

ومن المتوقع أن يكون أمام القاضي ستة أشهر لاصدار قراره.

وتردد أن العلاقة بين وانغ وتشان بدأت بعد عامين من اختفاء تيدي زوج وانغ وهو أحد أباطرة المال والاعمال في عام 1990 ولم يظهر مرة أخرى على الاطلاق.

بريطاني ينفي نفسه في جزيرة للإقلاع عن التدخين

    يصل المصرفي البريطاني السابق جيوف سبايس إلى جزيرة سغارابيا الصغيرة بمنطقة أوتر هبرايدز في اسكتلندا للإقامة فيها في محاولة منه للاقلاع عن التدخين. وذكرت هيئة الاذاعة البريطانية أن سبايس ( 65 سنة) سوف ينعزل شهراً في الجزيرة لا يؤنسه فيها سوى مجموعة كتب وأغنام ترعى في المكان.

وتمنى صاحب الجزيرة دافيد هيل لسبايس حظاً سعيداًٍ في "المغامرة" التي قرر خوضها للتخلص من عادة التدخين لاسيما أنه يدخن 30 سيجارة يومياً منذ عقود. ولا يوجد في الجزيرة كهرباء أو مياه صالحة للشرب وهي تقع في الجزء الشرقي من منطقة ساوند هاريس.

وحالت أحوال الطقس الرديئة من وصول سبايس إلى الجزيرة يوم السبت وهو يأمل بالرسو خلال الاسبوع الحالي.

وقال هيل إن سبايس سوف يقيم في الجزيرة طوال شهر أغسطس/آب الحالي وسيكون معه 120 كتاباً، مضيفا "إذا مررت بالجزيرة في شهر أغسطس لوّح بيديك لجيوف ولكن لا تقترب.. لأن الاقلاع عن التدخين قضية مهمة جداً!". وبدأ سبايس بالتدخين عندما كان في ال 13 من عمره، وهو يدخن منذ ذلك الحين 30 سيجارة في اليوم.

وقال سبايس إنه سيدخن "آخر سيجارة" ويعطي بقية العلبة لزوجته قبل الصعود إلى القارب والتوجه إلى الجزيرة الاسكتلندية النائية. ويأمل سبايس إذا استطاع الإقلاع عن التدخين بالعيش لسنوات إضافية مع زوجته وأولاده وأفراد عائلته.

Retired top banker Geoff Spice will stub out his last cigarette and go and live for a month on an uninhabited Scottish island in one last final attempt to quit smoking.

Mr Spice, having tried every other method, is to become a castaway on the 40-acre Sgarabhaigh - meaning cormorant island in gaelic - in the Sound of Harris.

He has decided to become the Outer Hebridean isle's only resident to give up his 30-a-day habit.

The island has no home - except for three derelict bothys - so Mr Spice, 56, will have to camp.

Mr Spice said on Friday that he had managed to keep his mind off going cold turkey by busying himself moving house in the appropriately named Ashstead in Surrey.

'The truth is that I've been so busy moving in to our house and planning and getting ready for my trip that I haven't been able to spend much time contemplating the imminent end of my smoking habit,' said Mr Spice.

'I'm a bit apprehensive now that the time is almost here about spending the month on the island by myself but I'm determined to see it through.

'Today (sat) I'm going to have one last cigarette and give the rest of the packet to my wife and get on the boat to the island.

'This is my last chance. I've been smoking 30-a-day as usual but I think I can crack the habit. I also hope that living on the island and surviving by myself will mean that I will not pile on the pounds as other people do when they give-up.

'I am taking plenty of midge repellent though ironically they say that smoking helps keep the insect away.'  The seas around the island team with fish - but Mr Spice will not catch them, as he does not fancy killing the creatures! The island is also rabbit-free - so there will be no other easy source of wild fare.

Other than some sheep, Mr Spice will be on his own - and will be searched to make sure he does not have any cigarettes before being let on the island, which is four miles off Rodel on Harris.

Mr Spice was Managing Director, Global Head of Treasury, N.M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd. in London until he quit banking a couple of years ago.

Sgarabhaigh also has no electricity or water supply, so he will rely for fires from driftwood and a camp stove and bottled water.

To stop him getting bored he will take a guitar - which he hopes to learn to play - an iPod - with 120 books on it - a mobile phone and a computer, both powered by a photo voltaic solar cell. It will also have a wind-up handle as a back up to generate electricity.

'I first thought about staying on an uninhabited island about 10 years ago when I was living in Australia. It was just a thought which came into my mind from time to time but not something I thought about very seriously. In any case I wouldn't have really fancied staying on an Australian island which might be uninhabited by humans but inhabited by snakes and spiders,' said Mr Spice.

A Muslim care home owner has been branded 'a disgrace' after banning his pensioner residents from eating bacon.

The 40 pensioners - none of them Muslim - were shocked when all pork products were cut off the menu by owner Dr Zulfikar Ali Khan.

He stopped deliveries from the butcher who supplied the home for years and instead ordered halal-meat only from another firm.

It meant that the elderly residents at the 40-bed Queen's Care Centre in the pit village of Maltby, near Rotherham, missed out on traditional favourites like bacon sandwiches, sausage and mash, ham sandwiches and sausage rolls.

But the move has brought a furious reaction from the 37-strong staff - and the families of residents.

Said a relative of an elderly resident : 'This is a disgrace. The old people who are in the home and in their final years an deserve better.

'They are paying customers who are making profits for this man. The least he can do is give them their favourite food.

'Bacon butties and bangers and mash is traditional English food and that's what these people want, it's shocking that they should be deprived of the food they like on the whim of this man.'

Said one member of staff , who asked not to be named: 'Only halal meat was delivered to the home and all pork products such as bacon, ham sandwiches, pork pies, sausages and even lard were stopped.

'He did not consult the residents or seek their approval. Bacon sandwiches are a favourite here.

'It's also quite wrong that someone should impose their religious and cultural beliefs on others like this.

'For many years meat has been supplied by Crawshaws, a Rotherham family butcher but that contract ended two weeks ago and since then only halal meat has been delivered along with other products with brand names you would not recognise.

'We were told that if people wanted pork products we could go out and get them, but in reality this has not worked.

'We only have halal meat on the premises and so this is all we had to serve to residents because there is no other meat in the building.'

Dr Khan is believed to be the only one the only in the building.

When asked about the decision, Dr Khan, who has owned the home since 1994, suggested that the halal meat had been brought in for Muslim staff - but he is believed to be the only one the only in the building.

He said staff had misconceptions about the situation and added : 'As soon as we realised residents were not getting what they wanted it was resolved a a senior staff meeting a week ago.

'We will be ordering all types of meat . It is complete nonsense. The residents are free to have whatever they want.

'Regarding meat we are moving from Crawshaws to Browns Meat Supplies - a British company which supplies all kinds of meat.

'There has been one delivery of halal meat and people have misunderstood the concept. As soon as I realised this I held a senior staff meeting which was minuted and I made it abundantly clear that residents could have any meat product or food they wished.

'I agree it would be quite wrong for someone to impose their religious or cultural beliefs on others, but this is not the case.'

Said a former member of staff who still has connections with the home: 'I believe Dr Khan intended to serve only halal meat at the home but has had to think again because of the row.

'The staff have been very unhappy and the manager has just left, one of several to go in the last few years.'

Simon Cowell is joining forces with Sir Philip Green to form a £1billion global super entertainment company in a bid to rival Disney.

The music mogul and retail tycoon will pool finances, resources and industry knowledge to create a worldwide business which straddles showbusiness and fashion.

The plans would see them own all the rights and content of shows Cowell produces such as Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor and America's Got Talent.

The idea is to take the hit shows to more countries and sell millions of pounds worth of merchandise on the back of their success.

The high-profile pair have been friends for more than a decade but only seriously discussed going into business together this year.

A source said: 'What we have at the moment is essentially the first brick in the building. It's at such an early stage.

 

Cowell will oversee the production of TV shows, while Sir Philip will deal with finances, strategy and merchandise.

The pair want to launch X Factor in the U.S. and maximise the lucrative rights to successful programmes such as Got Talent.

'For the past few months Sir Philip has been sitting in on Cowell's negotiations as his contracts with Sony and American Idol are up for renewal,' said the source.

'He's been acting like a manager. They have a bit of a good cop, bad cop routine with Cowell as the good cop.

There is nothing in development yet but they are planning for films, TV, merchandising, and multi-media divisions.'

It will be the first time Sir Philip  -  who owns Topshop and Bhs  -  has tried his hand at showbusiness but the venture with Cowell provides a potentially lucrative merchandising opportunity.

'They are talking about making profits running into billions as opposed to millions,' said someone who knows them both. Sir Philip would not comment, but a source close to the businessman, said: 'They are good friends and have talked about it for weeks on end.

'They can both see the opportunity for a business that is successful in lots of different areas.'

The company, yet to be named, is being launched at a time of slashed budgets and little investment but Cowell has been responsible for some of the biggest shows of the past decade.

The X Factor regularly attracts audiences of 15million, while Britain's Got Talent pulled in 19.2million for the final in May. Both are already sold to 30 countries.

Cowell is paid £22million a season as a judge on American Idol, which is the biggest show in the U.S. with more than 30million viewers. But he does not share in the profits, which go to Simon Fuller's company 19.

Similarly, while Cowell spearheads Syco, which co-produces The X Factor and Got Talent and is also a record label for reality stars such as Leona Lewis, it is effectively a division of Sony BMG.

This again means he is paid a hefty salary by Sony BMG and ITV but does not earn anything from the content or music sales.

A friend said: 'All his contracts are up for renewal. Simon wants to develop his own content. He will be on stage, and a producer, and develop ideas internationally.'

It is unclear how much capital Sir Philip will put into the venture.

The talk, predictably, is very big. The global entertainment firm being formed by music mogul Simon Cowell and the retail billionaire Sir Philip Green will be 'bigger than Disney'.

We are told that from this unlikely alliance we should expect a 'multi-billion-dollar international business'.

Now Kate Moss has been offered a multi-million-pound deal to 'direct the style and image' of the as yet unnamed company.

Last year, Cowell is supposed to have earned £44 million and recently bought his third Rolls-Royce and a couple of homes in Barbados.

But how has he come by his fortune? And what is behind this very flashy relaunch?

Insiders say that he is far less of a power in the music business than his PR as pop culture's kingmaker would suggest.

For it's hard to believe that Cowell doesn't want to be richer than Fuller.

The two have been nominally doing business for seven years, but have long been the best of enemies, locked into a peculiar, hyper-competitive relationship.

For the past two years, Cowell has been legally prevented from competing directly with Fuller. But that restriction is lifted next year.

Ironically, Cowell's rise to fame and fortune came via Fuller, who, while developing the Pop Idol format, realised that his old sparring partner would be the perfect Mr Nasty on a panel of showbiz judges.

While Fuller had no interest in appearing on TV, he knew Cowell would love the chance to be a star.

Fuller and Cowell had known each other for years through their involvement in the music business.

Pop Idol, first broadcast in 2001, was an instant hit. And when Cowell appeared in the U.S. version the following year, he became an international star.

Three years later, he went into business with Freemantle Media to make his own talent show - The X Factor. His private rivalry with Fuller could no longer be contained.

It's a fair bet to say he and Green will be looking at launching a pop band on the back of a teen drama TV show, as well as carrying on making money from talent shows.

Will he stay on The X Factor? He has been talking since last year about handing over to Cheryl Cole.

'My hope is that she can carry the show in the future,' he said. He will, of course, continue to benefit financially, even if he's not on screen.

Despite his hectic schedule - American Idol in the spring, Britain's Got Talent from May, The X Factor from August - he is keen to move on to new challenges.

A man as astute as Sir Philip Green will readily be able to see how much money they can make, drawing on Cowell's status as the most famous arbiter of talent in the world - and they can make it for themselves rather than for Fuller.

But what are Cowell's bona fides for his expertise as a judge? We all know the story of how, as the son of a music executive, he worked his way up from the postroom of EMI. 

But what did he do next? He left EMI in the early Eighties to form E&S music, and then Fanfare Records. Their biggest artist was Sinitta, and they made a lot of money through Stock Aitken Waterman Hit Factory compilation albums.

But Fanfare's parent company got into difficulties, the company was sold to BMG and Cowell went back to live with his parents.

He returned to work at BMG on S Records - his successes were Curiosity Killed The Cat, Sonia, Five, Westlife, Robson & Jerome and Ultimate Kaos. He also had novelty hits with the WWF wrestlers, Zig And Zag and the Teletubbies.

Let's say his reputation was as someone with an eye for what was popular, rather than as a music purist.

'If you look at the acts associated with Cowell, most of them have only domestic success and most of that is limited,' says Cliff Dane, a chart analyst for Music Week magazine.

How much money Cowell makes from his artists is tricky to calculate. If an album sells for £8 or £9, the record company takes a £5 cut. A large slice will go on marketing, a smaller slice will go to the artist and a smaller slice still will go to Cowell.

What we can be sure of is that he received £58 million as a result of deals with Sony when they bought out Ronagold Ltd and Simco Ltd, the joint venture company set up to manage revenues from Cowell's made-on-TV stars.

Cowell continues to benefit from the success of the artists, such as Il Divo. Forbes magazine thinks he gets £44 million a year in total.

'The estimate I made of his fortune as £120 million was conservative,' says Rich List author Philip Beresford. 'His money comes not from record sales, but from his media and TV deals.

'If the negotiations with American Idol reach Oprah levels, and given his new association with Sir Philip Green, I could see him overtaking Simon Fuller quite easily.

'Fuller states his wealth at around £400 million, but I fear there is some exaggeration.

    ذكر موقع إي باي انك للمزادات على الانترنت ان احد الاشخاص الذين دخلوا مزادا خيريا اقامه الموقع على تناول الغداء مع المستثمر الامريكي وارن بافيت وافق على دفع 1.68 مليون دولار لتناول الوجبة المكونة من شريحة لحم.

ولم يصل العرض الفائز في الحدث السنوي العاشر لجمع الاموال لاغراض الخير الى حجم عرض العام الماضي القياسي الذي بلغ 2.11 مليون دولار دفعها المستثمر زهاو دانيانغ المقيم في هونغ كونغ. وكان سعر فتح المزاد 25 الف دولار.

ولم تتحدد على الفور هوية صاحب العطاء الفائز. ولم يتسن الحصول على تعليق فوري من إي باي. ولم يرد بافيت على طلب للتعليق.

ومثلما حدث في السنوات الاخيرة فإن بوسع الفائز وما يصل الى سبعة من اصدقائه تناول الغداء مع ثاني اغنى رجل في العالم في مطعم سميث آند ولينسكي في نيويورك.

وتناول زهاو الذي يدير صندوق استثمارات النمو الصيني (بيورهارت) الغداء مع بافيت يوم الاربعاء.

ويستفيد من المزاد مؤسسة غلايد التي لا تهدف الى الربح بسان فرانسيسكو والتي توفر للفقراء السكن والعمل والتدريب والرعاية الصحية ورعاية الطفل والوجبات. وكان مراقبون توقعوا ان الركود العالمي سيجعل العطاء الفائز اقل من العطاء القياسي الذي قدم العام الماضي.

والعطاء الفائز هو ثاني اكبر عطاء على الاطلاق يقدم للغداء. ووافق صاحبا العطاءين الفائزين في 2006 و 2007 على دفع 620100 دولار و 650100 دولار على الترتيب.

وجمعت المزادات التسعة السابقة اكثر من 4.2 ملايين دولار لجلايد. ومن بين اصحاب العطاءات الفائزة مدير صندوق التحوط ديفيد اينهورن الذي دفع 250100 دولار عام 2003.

وبنى بافيت (78 عاما) ثروته من خلال مؤسسة بيركشاير هاثواي ومقرها اوماها بولاية نبراسكا وهي شركة تأمين واستثمار تتبعها اكثر من 80 شركة وتبلغ استثماراتها عشرات المليارات من الدولارات.

وفي 2006 تبرع بافيت بمعظم ثروته الى مؤسسة بيل ومليندا جيتس واربع مؤسسات خيرية تتبع عائلات. وقدرت مجلة فوربس ثروته بما يصل الى 40 مليار دولار.

بدأت المزادات على الغداء مع الملياردير الشهير عام 2000 بعد ان قدمته زوجته سوزان الى مؤسسة غلايد. وكانت اول ثلاثة مزادات علنية ثم انتقلت الى الانترنت عام 2003.

As the stock markets crumble around their ears, investors have become increasingly hungry for insights from the world's top financial brains.

Publisher Bloomsbury yesterday revealed that sales of a biography of legendary investor Warren Buffett have surpassed 110,000 outside the US alone.

The runaway success of Alice Schroeder's The Snowball: Warren Buffett And The Business of Life is staggering for a hardback financial title.

The Sage of Omaha may have suffered his worst year in decades in 2008, but that has done nothing to alter his near-mythical status for small investors.

Bloomsbury boss Nigel Newton signalled that readers showed no sign of cutting back on their book fix in the recession. He estimates that reading costs just 50p an hour - a snip compared to a trip to the cinema or a meal out.

For Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury, the bonanza from the boy wizard has now largely run its course.

 

Bloomsbury has branched out further into non-fiction publishing recently, snapping up cricket bible Wisden Almanacks and the Arden Shakespeare

Warren Buffett is the world's greatest investor and as a result, also the world's richest man. He made most of his fortune betting on sturdy US companies but now appears to be going global in an attempt to find growth opportunities. This is Money's investment correspondent Philip Scott, looks at where he is placing his bets...

Buffett: 'It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price.'

 

 

The planet's most famous investor Warren Buffett, once quipped: 'Rule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.'

 

As the richest man in the world, worth an estimated $62bn according to the Forbes rich list, it's probably wise to listen to whatever he says when it comes to making money. And people will pay good money to do so – on Friday a Chinese fund manager won a lunch with Buffett after bidding more than £1m for the opportunity in a charity auction.

 

Buffett started early, he is said to have filed his first income tax return at the age of 13 - deducting the cost of his bicycle as a work-related expense. He also sold gum door-to-door.

 

For more than four decades the man known as the 'Sage of Omaha' has been running his investment conglomerate, Berkshire Hathaway, and over that time he has increased its assets at a robust 21.1% a year, more than double the 10.3% annual gain in the US's S&P 500 index.

 

Simultaneously, the cost of an individual share in Berkshire Hathaway has soared from some $19 to some $78,008. Over the past 43 years, Buffett has failed to beat the market just six times.

 

 

 

Buffett's investment philosophy

Buffett likes to keep it simple when it comes to investment - Evening Standard Financial Editor Anthony Hilton explains: 'Buffett's view is that investors should never confuse innovation with the opportunity to make money.

 

'He avoids new industries because they attract so many entrants that no one makes any money. Picking the handful that will survive and prosper from the many more that will go out of business is a question of luck not judgment, and that is no way to invest.'

 

 

 

Where does Buffett's success and fortune originate?It essentially comes down to four rules for Buffett when looking at potential investments, 'a business you understand, favourable long-term economics, able and trustworthy management, and a sensible price tag'.

 

 

 

 

Buffett has made his name and fortune by investing domestically, initially in the insurance sector and then in other blue-chips such as Coca-Cola, American Express and Procter & Gamble. But more recently he has been casting his net further out for investment opportunities.

 

 

What does Buffett think of the current economic environment?

 

Last month, the billionaire, who has already said he thinks the United States economy is in a recession, saidthe economy was getting worse.

 

In a television interview he stated: 'Everything connected with construction and with consumer, I see weakness, and if anything, it's accentuating a little bit.' He added that he thinks inflation is picking up, especially in steel and oil.

 

 

Opportunities in Europe...

 

The economic downturn hasn't put Buffett off acquisitions and recently Europe has attracted his attention, notably Germany, citing that recent structural reforms of industry there are now paying off for companies. While travelling the country seeking out investment opportunities, he noted: 'We are looking for large, well-run companies that we understand right away.'

 

 

Buffett: 'Rule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.'

 

One caveat Buffett has though, is that firms worthy of attention have to have grown and developed over several decades – anything young, around three or four years old, is off limits. 'I don't have a specific shopping list. I'm looking for companies with a long-term, permanent competitive advantage, companies that are managed by good people and that are good value,' he added.

Buffett already owns some 76 firms outright - a number which swells to around 200 if subsidiaries are included. He was quoted in the Financial Times as saying: 'We are nowhere near as prominent in Europe as we should be.'

 

His first encounter will see him meet leading members of the Mittelstand, the family-owned companies that make up the backbone of the German economy. 'We would like more family owners of German businesses who, when they feel some need to monetise their business, think of Berkshire Hathaway,' he said.

 

Family-owned companies are among Europe's strongest and most are long-term in outlook with the vast majority of them in the industrial sector. His European trek also included Switzerland, Spain and Italy, looking for candidates for what would be only his second major acquisition outside the US. Iscar, an Israeli manufacturing company, was his first large non-US buy. The potential big bet...

At his annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting in May, when asked what he would do with a million dollars to invest, Buffett replied: 'I could find better things to do with a million dollars probably in Korea than I could probably find in this market (the US).'

 

He added to shareholders that he was 'comfortable' investing there, where he has a large stake in steelmaker Posco, and pointed out that further investments in the region are 'not inconceivable,' on the day following the shareholder gathering.

 

Berkshire ended 2007 with a $2.14bn stake in Posco, the globe's third largest steelmaker, for which it had originally paid $572m. He said: 'We like the ethos of Korea for shareholders and we like the performance of the businesses.'

 

He noted that the stock market had been as cheap as any he had witnessed in his lifetime. The primary industries in South Korea are automobiles, electronics and steel. And business remains strong. In February, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea won orders for doubled-hulled tankers worth $1.5bn.

 

Where has Buffett been investing his cash recently?

 

 

In May, it was reported in the Mail on Sunday that Buffett was making secret moves to push for a £50bn merger between the world's two biggest brewers - InBev, which makes Stella Artois, and Anheuser-Busch, producer of Budweiser. Buffett has a 5% stake in Anheuser-Busch and is thought to be unhappy at the way his investment is performing.

 

In April, Buffett agreed to pay $2.1bn for an undisclosed stake in Chicago's Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. as part of Mars Inc.'s $23bn takeover deal. In February, Buffett snapped up shares in FTSE 100 listed GlaxoSmithKline and US food and beverage company Kraft, making him the latter's largest shareholder with a $4.3bn (£2.2bn) or 8.6% investment. Last year Buffett revealed that he had built up a 3% stake in the UK's biggest supermarkets operator, Tesco, worth almost £1bn.

منع هاني سرور والمتهمين الآخرين في قضية أكياس الدم الفاسدة من السفر

    قررت محكمة جنايات جنوب القاهرة حجز قضية أكياس الدم الفاسدة والملوثة الموردة من شركة "هايديلينا" إلى وزارة الصحة، والمتهم فيها هاني سرور عضو مجلس الشعب المصري" البرلمان، ورئيس مجلس إدارة شركة هايديلينا للمستلزمات الطبية و7 متهمين آخرين، للحكم في جلسة 17 سبتمبر المقبل، كما أمرت المحكمة بإدراج أسماء المتهمين في قوائم الوصول بالمطارات ومنعهم جميعا من السفر. وكانت المحكمة قد استمعت في الجلسات الأخيرة للقضية لمرافعات الدفاع عن المتهمين ،الذي أكد أن فحوص واختبارات الطب الشرعي لقرب وأكياس الدم، جاءت غير مطابقة للمواصفات القياسية الواجبة، مشيرا إلى أنه فيما يتعلق بالعفن الذي عثر عليه بعدد من القرب إنما يرجع إلى سوء التخزين وتركها مهملة لعدة أشهر في درجات حرارة غير ملائمة، وفي أماكن غير مخصصة للتخزين، مشيرا إلى أن العديد من التقارير الطبية أقرت بعدم وجود عفن في قرب الدم المنتجة من قبل شركة هايدلينا.

وجبات طعام في سماء باريس.. للذواقة الأثرياء

    تقترح مجلة "كويزين كريياتيف" على الذواقة الاثرياء خوض تجربة فريدة من نوعها، بين 11 و15 ايلول/ سبتمبر، تشمل تناول وجبات طعام فاخرة تقدم على ارتفاع خمسين مترا داخل منطاد، والاستماع بمنظر ساحة الكونكورد واللوفر والشانزليزيه.

واكد المنظمون ان 11 طباخا شهيرا سيشاركون في تحضير وجبات الطعام هذه من بينهم مارك فيرا وبيار غانيير ويانيك الينو وتييري ماركس وجورج بلان. ويتوج كبار طباخي قصر الاليزيه هذه التظاهرة بعشاء فاخر.

ويقام المطعم الموقت هذا في منطاد هو عبارة عن منصة حديدية معلقة على رافعة فوق حديقة التويلري.

ويتسع "المطعم" ل 22 ضيفا عند كل وجبة من الوجبات الخمس المقرر تقديمها يوميا (وجبتا غداء وثلاث وجبات العشاء) ليصل مجموع الوجبات الى 550، وفق التوقعات.

وخصصت خمس طاولات اضافية من اجل تذوق انواع عديدة من المشروبات تحت اشراف نادل فندق الريتز كولن فيلد. وتصل كلفة عشاء يعده طاهٍ شهير الى 924 يورو للشخص الواحد، في حين تصل كلفة العشاء الذي سيعده كبار طباخي الاليزيه الى 1400 يورو. ويحول مبلغ مائة يورو من فاتورة كل شخص يرتاد هذا المطعم الى جمعية "فيديراسيون دي مالادي اورفولين" الذي يعني بالايتام المرضى. ويرتفع هذا المبلغ الى 576 يورو خلال عشاء طباخي الاليزيه.

وقال برونو هانورت، مدير المجلة الفصلية "كويزين كريياتيف" لوكالة فرانس برس ان "هذا المطعم الموقت يهدف الى ابراز المطبخ الفرنسي الفاخر والمكانة الفرنسية".

وقد سبقت هذه التجربة الباريسية الاولى تجارب مماثلة في بودابست وبروكسل ولاس فيغاس ودبي.

    حثت مائتا سيدة من الأكاديميات الإيطاليات زوجات قادة العالم على مقاطعة الاجتماع المقرر الشهر المقبل لمجموعة دول الثماني في إيطاليا احتجاجاً على موقف رئيس حكومتهم سيلفيو برلسكوني الذي ينطوي على " تمييز جنسي" ضد النساء. وذكرت وكالة الأنباء الإيطالية "أكي" أمس الثلاثاء أن الدعوة جاءت ضمن رسالة أصدرتها الأكاديميات الإيطاليات جاء فيها "إننا كنساء نعمل في عالم الثقافة والجامعات نشعر باستياء كبير بسبب الطريقة التي يعامل فيها رئيس الحكومة سيلفيو برلسكوني النساء سواء في الأماكن العامة أو الخاصة". وأضافت إن مئات السيدات الاخريات سوف يوقعن على هذه الرسالة لأن تصرفات برلسكوني " تنال من كرامة النساء وتترك أثراً سلبياًُ على استقلالهن وإنجازاتهن". ومن المقرر أن ترافق عدة نساء أزواجهن الرؤساء إلى قمة الثماني التي سوف تعقد في بلدة لاكويلا مطلع يوليو/ تموز المقبل من بينهن سارة براون زوجة رئيس الحكومة البريطانية غوردن براون وميشيل أوباما عقيلة الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما.

وجاء نشر الرسالة وهي بعنوان " نداء إلى السيدات الأول" بعد تقارير ذكرت أن شابات تلقين أموالاً من أجل تشجيعهن على حضور حفلات في منزل برلسكوني (72 سنة)، واعتراف واحدة على الأقل منهن وهي عارضة أزياء سابقة اسمها " بارتيزيا داداريو، أنها قضت الليل مع رئيس الحكومة الايطالي في منزله الخاص في روما خلال شهر نوفمبر/تشرين الثاني.

وأضافت الرسالة " نحن لا نشير فقط إلى العلاقات الشخصية لرئيس الحكومة (برلسكوني)... ولكن للطريقة التي يتم فيها الاستعانة بموظفين سياسيين وللتصرفات والمحادثات التي تنطوي على تمييز ضد النساء والتي تنزع صفة الشرعية للنساء عن المسرح الاجتماعي والدستوري".

Wives of the world leaders due to attend next month’s G8 summit in Italy should boycott the meeting because of Silvio Berlusconi’s “sexist” and “offensive” attitude to women, a group of Italian female academics has said.

A number of wives, including Sarah Brown and Michelle Obama, are to join their husbands at the summit, although the wife of the Italian Prime Minister will not be hosting as she is seeking a divorce.

Veronica Lario announced the end of her marriage at the end of April after Mr Berlusconi attended the 18th birthday party of an aspiring model.Since then, a series of allegations about his personal life has emerged.

Prosecutors in Bari, southern Italy, are investigating “inducement to prostitution” by a local businessman after an escort girl claimed women were paid to attend Mr Berlusconi’s parties in Sardinia and Rome.

In the first sign of a public reaction against the stories of scores of young models attending parties thrown by the Prime Minister, 72, three social sciences academics have written an “Appeal to the First Ladies” and claim to have garnered “hundreds of signatures” in support of the letter.

“We are profoundly indignant, as women employed in the world of universities and culture, at the way in which the Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi treats women both in public and in private,” the letter reads.

It said they were referring not only to Mr Berlusconi’s personal relations with women, which had “transcended the personal sphere and assumed public significance”, but also to his recruitment of women from the world of showbusiness for politics.

This was a reference to his attempt to put up actresses, showgirls and a Big Brother contestant as candidates in the European elections. He dropped the idea after objections both from Ms Lario and a think-tank founded by Gianfranco Fini, co-leader of Mr Berlusconi’s People of Liberty party.

The campaigners said they were also referring to his “sexist speeches”, which “systematically undermine the female presence on the social and instititutional scene”, while his behaviour “gravely undermines the dignity of women on a moral, civil and cultural level”.

Furthermore, Mr Berlusconi’s control of the media “flouts any democratic rule and heavily limits the possibility of expressing dissent and criticism”.

This made it difficult for Italian women who “do not recognise themselves in the image transmitted by the Prime Minister and those around him” to make their disapproval heard. The letter ends: “As citizens of Italy, Europe and the world, we appeal to the First Ladies of those countries taking part in the forthcoming G8 at L’Aquila to boycott the event and to state forcefully that the delegitimisation of women in one country offends and strikes at women of all countries.”

The letter was signed by Chiara Volpato, lecturer in social psychology at Bicocca University, Milan; Angelica Mucchi Faina, lecturer in social psychology at Perugia Unversity; and Anne Maass, associate professor of social psychology at Padua University.

Professor Bianca Beccalli, head of the Study Centre for Women and Gender Differences at Milan University, said: “We have hundreds of signatures and are trying to get more. It is not a question of quantity but quality — we want to get Italy’s most prominent and distinguished women on board.”

Prosecutors in Bari expressed alarm over the “lack of security” at Mr Berlusconi’s homes, with women allowed in with no identity checks and able to make audio and video recordings. Luigi Zanda, a senator for the opposition Democratic Party, called on him to tell parliament if he was “blackmailable”. Mr Berlusconi, who is not under investigation, has accused the media, especially La Repubblica and foreign newspapers, of a smear campaign

Like A Virgin (pin-up): Kate Moss dresses up in a red playsuit as she joins Branson for Virgin Atlantic's 25th birthday

Supermodel Kate Moss kicked off Virgin Atlantic's 25th birthday celebrations by dressing as one of the airline's flying pin-up girls.

Flashing her long legs in a red, strapless playsuit and Yves Saint Laurent Tribute platform heels, Kate jumped into the arms of a willing Sir Richard Branson as they posed on the wing of a Virgin jumbo.

The 35-year-old was aping the dress sense of the Virgin 'Flying Girls', who are painted on the side of the fleet in the style of Alberto Vargas's pin-ups in the 1940s.

Kate followed in the unlikely footsteps of Pamela Anderson, who also dressed in a similar red playsuit for Virgin's 21st birthday.

After their photoshoot this morning, Branson and Moss boarded the plane, entitled Birthday Girl, to recreate the airline's inaugural flight from Heathrow to New York City.

On board today's special VIP 'birthday flight' were international cricketer Kevin Pietersen, Sir Ian Botham and entertainer Christopher Biggins, who was a passenger on the very first Virgin Atlantic flight 25 years ago on June 22nd 1984.

Speaking before take-off, Sir Richard predicted that the recession would kill off first-class travel.

About an hour before departure, he posed in a captain's uniform with Kate before being joined for the wing walk by his daughter Holly and his son Sam.

Sir Richard said the last 12 months in aviation had been 'the most volatile in our 25-year history'.

He believed Virgin Atlantic would survive the downturn but suspected that first-class travel across all airlines would 'disappear for good'.

Recent official figures have shown a massive slump in first and business class travel. As a result there is a vicious price war for business class customers. A return ticket to New York with Virgin Atlantic today costs £1,098, compared with £1,049 with American Airline United, and £1,099 with Virgin's arch-rivals British Airways.

Sir Richard, whose airline offers an 'Upper Class' premium service, said to sit between business and first, commented: 'We have heard that our principal rivals are looking to get rid of first-class all together. And it's high time. Who wants to spend £8,000-9,000 on a first-class ticket when they can fly with us for less than half that.

'I suspect first-class travel will disappear during this recession.'

Sir Richard, who has urged the government not to bail out ailing British Airways said his own airline was 'doing better than most' during the downturn.

'This year is going to be tough for everybody. But it's a fantastic time for passengers. I suspect they are getting the same sort of prices they were getting 25 years ago.'

When Virgin launched in 1984, a flight to New York cost £119, compared with £103 today. A Ford Fiesta was £4,704 compared with £9,995 today but a Motorola mobile phone, then a novelty cost a whopping £1,750 compared to just £9.50 today. The average house price in 1984 was £32,751 compared with £172,622 today.

Sir Richard said: 'After looking in to price comparisons on typical goods we all buy, we realised that the fares we charged on flights to New York are nearly the same as 1984 when we started the airline.

'I am so proud of what we have achieved in the last 25 years. It is a tribute to our staff.'

Virgin Atlantic chief executive Steve Ridgway said: 'Today's milestone is a huge accomplishment for Virgin Atlantic.'

Prime Minister Gordon Brown also sent a special birthday message praising the competition Virgin Atlantic had injected in to the market: 'People can now afford to fly to places they previously only dreams of.

'Aviation underpins our economic well-being. Virgin Atlantic is now also at the forefront of developing new technologies to meet the challenge of climate change. May this pioneering spirit continue throughout your second quarter century.'

Today's special flight is under the command of Captain Geoff Andreason, Virgin Atlantic's chief Boeing pilot.
