200 not out! Meet Welsh wonders Lily and Ena, the world's oldest twins

Sisters Ena Pugh and Lily Millward are claiming the title of the oldest twins in the world - at 100 years and nine months.

Farmer's daughters Ena Pugh and Lily Millward were born on January 4 1910 before the outbreak of World War 1 when Queen Victoria's son Edward VII was king.

The pair still live in the own houses, still meet up for weekly shopping sessions and chat on the telephone virtually every night.

Great-grandmother Lily revealed the secret of their long life is 'laughter and having a joke with each other.'  She said: 'We used to work on the farm all day, but we would enjoy ourselves.'

'It was a lot of fun and sociable. We've been very lucky and we have always had good health.'

Their family had no idea Ena and Lily were the oldest in the world until twins in France claimed the record last week - at a mere 98.

Lily's daughter Dianne Powell, 64, said: 'The French sisters were mere youngsters compared to my mother and aunt.'

'As twins they have been very close all their lives and they are still very close now.'

'Each of them jumps on a bus on their own every Friday so they can go shopping together and have a chat over a cup of tea.'

'And they ring each other almost every evening although they are both very hard of hearing - they can't really always know what the other is saying but just enjoy talking to each other.'

'It is marvellous to think they are the oldest twins in the world.'  Ena was born first on that chilly day in January 1910 with Lily a few minutes later in their family farm cottage in the tiny village of Garthbrengy, near Brecon in mid-Wales.

Their parents Charles and Laura Thomas had ten children - including twin brothers - but Ena and Lily are now the only survivors.

Ena married railwayman Ivor who died more than 20 years ago. She still lives in her country cottage where she raised their three children - and now has ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lily lives in a smallholding and has been a widow for nearly 20 years after the death of husband Evan, a former timber merchant. She had two children, five grand-children and nine-great grandchildren.

Both of the twins shun many of the luxuries that most of us now take for granted - neither, for example, has central heating in their home.

Dianne said: 'They both have just fires to keep them warm because that is what they have grown up with.'

'We do a bit of cleaning for them, but other than that they do everything on their own, - they both still fetch wood for their fires  They are both still very active - my mother has just made a load of jam and chutney for the local show.'

'They like to keep busy and love getting on the bus to go into town shopping on Friday to see each other.'

'Then as soon as they get home they ring each to make sure everything is all right.'

'My mother was still doing aerobics until six months ago - but had to give it up because she said some other old people needed it more than her.' 

The family were told the sisters have beaten odds of more than 700 million to one in becoming centenarians together.

Ena goes to chapel every week and is a member of her village Women's Institute.

She said: 'I think a lot of it is luck in life. But I think being kind, good and helping others is the main thing.'

'We've had a very happy life and enjoy seeing each other.' 

The sisters live just a dozen miles away from each other in the fresh air of the Welsh countryside - Ena at Erwood, near Builth Wells, and Lily still in her home village of Garthbrengy, near Brecon.

Grand-daughter Jayne Nascimento, 39, said: 'It is incredible - not only because of their age but because they are so independent and still living in their own homes.'

'My gran has lived on her small-holding for more than 60 years out in the countryside and was still keeping chickens up until a few years ago.'

'She loves living on the small-holding and maybe that is what keeps her so healthy and hearty.' 

The family heard on the radio that two sisters hit the headlines in France for being 98 last month.

Raymonde and Lucienne Wattelade, who are officially recognised as the world's oldest twins by the Guiness World Records, live in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, south-western France.

Jayne said: 'People told me about the twins in France saying they are the oldest but know my gran is older.'

'It looks like she and my great aunt are the oldest in the world.'

'We'll be getting in touch with the Guinness Book of Records just to make sure Ena and Lily are recognised.'

A mother has no problem telling her newborn twins apart - because  one was born black and the other white.

Shirley Wales, 21, who gave birth by caesarean section, was astonished when the midwife handed her her children.

For while son Leo resembled his Grenadian mother, with dark skin, brown eyes and thick hair, her daughter Hope was the image of her father, with light skin, blue eyes and fair sparse hair.

Leo was born first weighing 5lb 14oz closely followed by his sister Hope at 6lb  3oz at Dewsbury District Hospital, West Yorkshire.

Shirley said: 'I knew I was having twins, and I knew one was a boy and one was a girl, but I couldn't believe it when the midwife told me they had different skin tones after I'd given birth to them.

'Throughout the pregnancy I'd joked about the babies being black and white, I  even said to my friends that if one was black and one was white I'd call them Ebony and Ivory. When they were born though, I realised it would be cruel to actually call them that.

'I immediately noticed that Hope was completely white and although they didn't  look that different when they were first born, because they both had a bit of  jaundice, I could tell Leo's skin was going to get darker and Hope's was going to stay white.'

Shirley texted all her friends with the surprising news.

She said: 'I had about 100 visitors in the first couple of days because people wouldn't  believe me until they had seen it for themselves.'

Shirley's parents are both Grenadian while the twins' father, who she is no longer in a relationship with, is white. She discovered she was pregnant just nine days after her babies were conceived.

'I knew I was pregnant, I just had a feeling something wasn't right. My birth dad is a twin so obviously I realised I could be having twins but it wasn't until the 20-week scan that the midwife confirmed it.

'I was over the moon when I found out, I wanted to have one boy and one girl,  so it was perfect,' the hairdresser from Batley, West Yorkshire said.

Now 14 weeks old, little Leo and Hope have settled into their own routine and are developing their individual personalities.

Shirley said: 'They're my little miracles. They are so different, they're absolutely worlds apart.

'I call them Leo the Lion and Happy Hope, Leo gets angry when he isn't getting  attention because his sister seems to get a bit more attention from people,  whereas Hope is always smiling at everybody all the time.

'If I didn't have Leo with me, people would think Hope was my niece, but that doesn't bother me really. I love telling people that she is actually my baby.

'People just need to be open-minded, it can happen. I'm thrilled about it.'

A spokesperson for the Multiple Births Foundation said: 'Two separate eggs were fertilised by two separate sperm.

'The genes that go into defining skin colour will be different which results in  a combination of genes.

Cancer / Tumors

Studies have been conducted suggesting that rats that have been exposed to microwaves similar to the sort generated by mobile phones but more powerful, showed breaks in their DNA which could indicate an adverse effect. Also, mice exposed to radiation for 18 months developed brain tumors. Though of course, these studies are not concrete proof.
Blood Pressure

It was observed that people using cell phones were prone to high blood pressure. Again, there isn’t any concrete evidence of the same.
Pregnancy

A study at the University of Montpellier in France was carried out on 6000 chick embryos and suggested that the heavily exposed chick eggs were five times less likely to survive than the control group.
This study raised questions about possible effects on pregnant women but it has not yet appeared in peer-reviewed scientific literature or been reproduced, so its findings are difficult to assess.
Headaches, Heating Effects, Fatigue

A study brought out that longer the people used mobile phones, the more likely they were to report symptoms such as hot ears, burning skin, headaches and fatigue.
The study did not include a control group (that is people who do not use mobile phones, to make a comparison); therefore the symptoms reported could have been caused by any number of other factors in the mobile phones users’ environment, such as working with computers, stress, driving or reading.
Memory

There have been various studies into the connection between mobile phones and memory loss. A study looked into the effect of radiofrequency (RF) on the section of rats’ brains that is linked with the memory. The results showed that RF could modify signals in the cells in a part of the brain that is responsible for learning and short term memory.
Posture (holding phone between raised shoulder and ear)

Some researchers claim that holding a mobile phone between the raised shoulder and the ear could have a damaging effect on muscles, bones, tendons and discs. These problems would apply equally to a cordless phone or a landline phone as to a mobile phone and are the effect of bad posture.

Decreased Male Fertility
Male who used cell phones for more than four hours per day had markedly poorer sperm quality than their counterparts with lower cell phone usage.
Recently, the same team delved deeper. In a study published in Fertility & Sterility, they obtained sperm samples from 32 men and split them into 2 groups – control and test.
After being placed an inch from a 850-Mhz cell phone which was in ‘talk’ mode, the sperm in the test group samples had higher levels of harmful free radicals as well as lower levels of protective antioxidants as compared to the control group, i.e. the unexposed sperm. These resulted in a drop in the affected sperm’s function, motility as well as overall health.
There was, however, no significant difference in DNA damage between the two groups.
This is a small, laboratory-based study, and more research is definitely still needed in this area. On top of that, sperm in men would actually be further away from cell phones, and also be protected by a few layers of human tissue. However, despite these factors, the findings of this study still offer cause for concern, and men, especially those planning to start a family, may want to keep their cell phones as far away from their reproductive parts as possible.

Cell Phones (hand-held mobile phones) Emit Microwave Radiation

Cell (mobile) phones & wireless networks emit radiation in the microwave frequency range. Just as microwave radiation cooks food at high levels, it causes damage to human tissue and DNA at low levels.

"Neither radiofrequency (30 kHz-300MHz) nor microwave fields (300-3000 MHz) exist as significant components of the natural terrestrial electromagnetic environment. In consequence, our human generation is the first to voluntarily expose itself to artificial RF/microwave fields that cover a wide spectrum of frequencies and intensities. Typical mobile phones radiate an average power of 0.2-0.6 W. Microwave Radiation is Hazardous

Thousands of independent scientific studies have clearly shown that exposure to microwave radiation can cause severe and long-lasting damage, however, it might take years for the damage to produce noticable symptoms in some people.

A 10 year industry sponsored study determined that cell phones are not safe, according to the program's director, George Carlo, who was fired after presenting his findings and threatened to not reveal his discoveries.

Norbert Hankin, an environmental scientist in the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has studied the effects of radio frequency/microwave radiation for 33 years says some of the research findings are "worrisome."

Even the notoriously corrupt U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports, "the available scientific evidence does not allow us to conclude that mobile phones are absolutely safe."

Industry Coverup

The $100 Billion/year cell phone industry has enough power to ensure that the truth about its products are not known. Mass media makes so much money from cell phone advertising that few of them are willing to publish articles illuminating the hazards of cell phones.

The cell phone industry is following some of the same tactics used by the tobacco industry and has paid for hundreds of studies designed specifically to show that microwave radiation is not harmful and avoid showing the real effects.

Industry studies were used by the World Health Organization (WHO) to develop its policy that cell phones are safe. The man who created the pro-industry policy at the WHO was employed by the industry before, during and after he created the policy.

What are the effects of the radiation?

While industry sponsored studies have failed to show a clear link between microwave radiation and brain tumors (there are other effects which have been ignored by industry studies), independent scientific studies show that microwave radiation does indeed cause brain tumors and numerous other serious health problems.

Microwave signals travel through human tissue, glass, metal and plastic. Human tissue also absorbs microwave radiation. The effect of even minute levels of microwave radiation has been shown to:

The Facts

The safety of microwave radiation is no longer in question. The laws of physics dictate that the radiation is harmful. Hundreds of independent scientific studies have clearly shown that if you use a cell phone or are continually exposed to microwave radiation from a wireless network, microwave tower or other microwave emitting device you are at risk for delibitating and life threatening illness.

Following are just a few of the studies that show the risks associated with exposure to microwave radiation.

Microwave Radiation Damages Blood - A study at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of Tehran showed that microwave radiation alters the structure of blood hemoglobin (HbA) and reduces its ability to carry oxygen.

Cell Phones Cause Hearing Loss - A study conducted by hearing expert Dr. Naresh Pand shows that the microwave radiation from mobile phones causes hearing loss. Dr. Panda compared the hearing of 100 mobile phone users between the ages of 18 and 25 with that of 50 others who did not use mobile phones.

Microwave Radiation Causes Eye Damage - A study published in the journal Bioelectromagnetics showed that the microwave radiation from cell phones can cause cataracts and other eye damage by creating tiny air pockets in the lense of the eye.

Microwave Radiation Damages DNA - A four year study conducted by the European Union (EU) by 12 research groups in 7 European countries found that radiation from cell phones harm body cells and damages DNA. The damaged DNA was passed on to subsequent generations of cells, a condition for the formation of cancer.

Cell Phone Usage Causes Tumors - A team of researchers at Institute of Environmental Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, found almost a fourfold increase of the tumors, known as acoustic neuromas, on the side of the head where the phone was most often held. A recent study sanctioned by the World Health Organization found an increased risk of brain tumors in people who have used the phones for 10 years or more.

Cell Phone Usage Disrupts Children's Brains - A study conducted by Dr. Michael Klieeisen at the Spanish Neuro Diagnostic Research Institute in Marbella found that two minutes of cell phone usage disrupted brain function in children for up to an hour after the exposure ended. The abnormal brain function could result in psychiatric and behavioural problems and impair learning ability.

Cell Phone Usage Cuts Male Fertility - Research results show that mobile phone usage reduces sperm count and damages surviving sperm. Dr. Imre Fejes of the obstetrics and gynaecology department at the University of Szeged in Hungary conducted the study and concludes: “The prolonged use of cell phones may have a negative effect on spermatogenesis (sperm production) and male fertility, that deteriorates both concentration and motility.” Dr. Fejes paper was released at the 20th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology held in Berlin from 27 to 30 June 2004.

Cell Tower Radiation Shown to Cause Headaches and Nausea - Three Dutch ministries conducted a study that found that the radiation from the next generation cell phone towers can cause headaches and nausea. The study is the first of its kind and compared the impact of radiation from base stations used for the current mobile telephone network with that of cell towers for new third generation (3G) networks. The study used lower a dose of radiation than cell phones. Hand held phones emit stronger radiation when they are used, while cell towers transmit more constant levels of radio signals, continuously exposing everyone within range.

"If the test group was exposed to third generation base station signals there was a significant impact... They felt tingling sensations, got headaches and felt nauseous," a spokeswoman for the Dutch Economics Ministry said.

Micrwoave Radiation Causes Brain Damage - A study headed by Leif Salford, Department of Neurosurgery at Lund University in Sweden and published in Environmental Health Perspectives shows that cell phone use damages neurons in the brain. This study found that exposure to electromagnetic fields emitted by certain phones was associated with the leakage of labumin through the blood-brain barrier and neuronal damage that increased in response to the amount of exposure. The radiation typically experienced by a user of a cell phone actually burned holes in the brains of rats.

The Head Absorbs Radiation - Headaches, nausea, dizziness, short-term memory problems, fatigue, and other complaints resulting from cellular phone use are not due to low-level heating of the brain; instead, they're apparently caused by the head serving as an "antenna" and brain tissue as a radio receiver, according to two Jerusalem researchers. Zvi Weinberger, a physicist who heads the applied physics department at the Jerusalem College of Technology, and Dr. Elihu Richter, head of the occupational medicine unit at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health, suggested this in the latest issue of the journal Medical Hypotheses. Mobile phones, they explained, "broadcast specifically at frequencies at which the head serves as an antenna and brain tissue serves as a demodulating radio receiver." Mobile Phone Signals Affect Brain Activity - A study reported in the Journal of Sleep Research (Blackwell Publishing) found that 30 minutes exposure to electromagnetic fields, as from GSM mobile phones, caused changes to brain activity which lasted long afterwards. Dr Peter Achermann and colleagues from the University of Zurich, and ITIS, in Zurich, found that blood flow increased in areas of the brain on the side nearest the phone, and that this effect lasted for over half an hour afterwards. They also discovered that the brain’s electrical activity (‘brain waves’) was not only affected immediately after the exposure, but that this lasted through much of the subsequent night’s sleep.

Radiation From Cell Phones Can Make Cancer Grow Faster - "Italian scientists have raised new health concerns about the safety of using mobile phones, with research showing radio waves from the handsets makes cancerous cells grow more aggressively.." Reuters, 10/23/02

Cell Phone Radiation Can Cause Brain Tumors - An epidemiology study conducted by Dr. Lennart Hardell found a higher incidence of brain tumors on the sides of heads used by mobile-phone subscribers to make and receive calls. The study was published in the August, 2002 issue of the European Journal of Cancer Prevention.

Cell Phones Incease Blood Pressure - The June 1998 The Lancet reported that radiation from mobiles caused an increase of blood pressure. Dr Braune and colleagues in Freiburg, Germany, attached mobiles to the right side of the heads of ten volunteers. The phones were switched on and off by remote control without the volunteers knowing - so that any radiation effect could be separated from the psychological effect of holding a mobile phone. Their blood pressure rose each time by between 5-10mm Hg which is enough to cause a stroke in those at risk for one.

The body of evidence showing the hazards of cell phones is more than sufficient to cause alarm, yet, public health organizations continue to stall while the cell phone industry builds more towers and makes billions selling more phones. Just as the tobacco industry was able to hold back the truth regarding the health effects of smoking, the cell phone industry has suppresed the truth about cell phone hazards. If you care about your health and the health of your family, please take the time to educate yourself and have the courage to act on what you find.

Wi-Fi Lies

Wide area wireless Internet networks (Wi-Fi) are spreading rapidly and are now in many homes, cities, hotels, airports, schools, restaurants and other public places. Industry claims that the radiation from wireless networks is a fraction of that from cell phones, yet a 2007 BBC documentary showed that the radiation level in schools was up to three times higher than that from the main beam of a cell phone tower.

One of the biggest problems with wireless networks is the continual exposure. With a cell phone the exposure is limited to the time that the phone is switched on and transmitting. With wireless networks the exposure is 24/7.

Some schools in Europe are now removing wireless networks and replacing them with conventional wired networks due to the fact that teachers and students were experiencing neurological problems linked to microwave radiation.

What to Do About it

It is not easy for many of us to simply stop using a cell phone. There may be a significant financial cost related to not being able to communicate via a cell phone. For those who travel it is getting increasingly difficult to find a pay-phone anywhere. However, the risks are very real and very serious and one's health is certainly worth protecting. The cost of using a cell phone is likely much higher in the long-term than the cost of not using one.

Humans have lived and done business for thousands of years without mobile phones. 20 years ago few people had cell phones and 10 years ago there were almost no wireless networks. We all did just fine without them then and can do fine without them now.

Reduce your risk:

• Simply don't use a cell phone, wireless network or live near a cell phone tower. Don't stand close to someone who is using a cell phone.
• If you must use a cell phone use it only in places with a strong signal. This allows the phone to transmit at low power (up to 100 times lower than its maximum value), reducing exposure accordingly.
• Minimize the length of calls.
• If you know where the nearest cell phone tower is don't put yourself between it and your phone, otherwise the signal travels straight through your head.
• Extend the antenna and hold the phone away from the head when possible.
• In your car use a hands-free kit with an external antenna and keep the phone away from your body. The external antenna should be as far away from you as possible.
• Do not use an earphone if it is made of conductive wire. Studies have shown that a metal earphone wire can act as an antenna and direct radiation into the head from the ear canal. Some earphones now use fiber optic cable or a hollow tube to convey sound.
• Don't stay in hotels with wireless networks or patronize other businesses with wireless networks.
• Express your concerns to your employer, landlord, your family and everyone else you know. Give them the facts so that they can make informed decisions.

    تستضيف الدورة العاشرة بعد المائة من صالون الخريف الثقافي في العاصمة الفرنسية باريس ولأول مرة 24 فنانا عربيا يتم تكريم بعضهم بينما يشارك آخرون في الفعاليات والندوات.

وقال الفنان والناقد المصري عبد الرازق عكاشة عضو مجلس إدارة الصالون لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية (د.ب.أ) إن الصالون سيجمع للمرة الأولى في تاريخه 24 مبدعا عربيا ينتمون إلى كل من السعودية والكويت وقطر والسودان والعراق والأراضي الفلسطينية والجزائر وتونس والمغرب إضافة إلى عشرة مصريين.

ويفتتح الصالون فعاليات دورته الجديدة في العاشر من تشرين ثان-نوفمبر القادم في قلب العاصمة الفرنسية حيث يكرم الرواد سعدي الكعبي من العراق وعمر النجدي من مصر وراشد دياب من السودان والفنانة الكويتية شيخة سنان والفنانة السعودية حنان باحمدان كما يقدم تكريما خاصا لخالد الصحصاح صاحب موقع فنون دوت كوم وأمل الساير رئيس قطاع الفنون بدولة قطر.

كما يتم تكريم المبدعين المصريين من جانب الجالية المصرية في فرنسا تحت اشراف رئيس الجالية الحاج صالح فرهود.

وتضم فعاليات الصالون برنامجا للندوات يبدأ بندوة " الصورة وتشابكها في سبل الإبداع" وتضم من مصر الأكاديمي فتحي صالح رئيس مركز التوثيق الحضاري والشاعر والإعلامي جمال الشاعر والكاتب محمد الغيطي والشاعر والإعلامي اللبناني زاهي وهبي والمسرحي التونسي محمد المدويني. وينظم الصالون ندوة تكريمية خاصة للأراضي الفلسطينية من خلال الفنان محترف شبابيك تديرها الفنانة التونسية نائلة الورد ويحضرها اللبناني زاهي وهبي والشاعرة والفنانة شرارة صالحي مؤسسة بينالي ايران للفنون الحديثة والمطربة المصرية عزة بلبع.

داء السمنة يتفشى في الدول المتقدمة.. والفقراء الأكثر بدانة

    حذرت منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية أمس من أن السمنة في طريقها لأن تصبح المشكلة الصحية الأكثر شيوعا في الدول الصناعية، ودعت الحكومات إلى إطلاق حملة شاملة لمعالجة المشكلة. وقالت المنظمة التي تضم 30 دولة متقدمة في تقرير أصدرته أمس الخميس في باريس، إنه منذ ثمانينيات القرن الماضي ارتفع عدد المصابين بالسمنة في الدول الأعضاء في المنظمة من عشر السكان، بما يعادل الضعفين أو حتى ثلاثة أضعاف. واشارت في دراسة بعنوان "السمنة واقتصادات المنع" الى انه "إذا استمرت الاتجاهات الراهنة .. فإن المؤشرات تشير إلى أن أكثر من ثلثي الأشخاص سيعانون من زيادة الوزن أو سيصابون بالسمنة في عدد من دول منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية على الأقل في غضون السنوات العشر المقبلة".

وأشارت الدراسة الى أن الأسباب تعود الى التغيرات في إنتاج الغذاء التي "قلصت أسعار المواد المحتوية على سعرات حرارية .. بشكل كبير وتغير ظروف الحياة والعمل التي قلصت كمية النشاط البدني وارتفاع معدلات التوتر والعمل لساعات أطول. وأشارت المنظمة إلى أن السمنة أكثر شيوعا في أوساط الفقراء ومن ينالون قدرا أقل من التعليم، وأن المشكلة تتبدى بشكل حاد في أكثر دول العالم رفاهية، الولايات المتحدة، حيث إن ثلاث سيدات من بين كل أربع يعانين من البدانة.

حكم دولي يحاول تهريب هيروين في ملابسه الداخلية

    ذكرت وسائل الإعلام الإيطالية والإكوادورية الأربعاء أن حكم كأس العالم السابق بايرون مورينو ضبط في أثناء محاولته إخفاء كمية من الهيروين في سرواله الداخلي.

وألقي القبض على الحكم الدولي السابق /40 عاما/ الذي أنهى مشواره التحكيمي في 2003 في أثناء عبوره نقطة تفتيش أمني بمطار جون كينيدي بمدينة نيويورك الأمريكية.

وأشارت قناة "راينيوز" التليفزيونية الإخبارية الإيطالية أن مورينو كان يحمل ستة كيلوجرامات من الهيروين عندما تم إلقاء القبض عليه. وأدار مورينو عدة مباريات مثيرة للجدل خلال مشواره التحكيمي ومازالت الجماهير الإيطالية ساخطة عليه بعدما طرد نجم منتخب إيطاليا السابق فرانشيسكو توتي من الملعب وتغاضى عن احتساب هدف للبلاد خلال مباراتها بدور ال16 من بطولة كأس العالم عام 2002 أمام كوريا الجنوبية. ولم يتول مورينو إدارة أي مباريات دولية عقب تلك المباراة.

    رغم شهرتها الواسعة في عالم السينما، أكدت الممثلة البريطانية كيت وينسلت أنها ليست شغوفة بالحياة المترفة.

وقالت وينسلت /34 عاما/ في مقابلة مع مجلة "جالا" الألمانية: "أحب الأشياء البسيطة". وذكرت نجمة هوليوود ، التي حازت على شهرة عالمية بعد بطولتها لفيلم "تايتانيك" أمام الممثل الأمريكي الشهير ليوناردو دي كابريو ، أن من بين تلك الأشياء الخروج في جولات بالدراجات مع طفليها والتنزه لمسافات طويلة.

وأكدت وينسلت أنه بإمكانها التخلي عن مظاهر حياة الرفاهية المبالغ فيها ، وقالت: "يعتقد كثير من الناس أن الشخصية العامة دائما محاطة بآلاف الناس ، وحياتي يمكن أن تكون بالطبع كذلك ، لكني سأكرهها حينها".

يذكر أن وينسلت فازت بجائزة الأوسكار لأحسن ممثلة عن دورها في فيلم (القارئ) عام 2009 . وانفصلت وينسلت قبل نحو 6 أشهر عن زوجها المخرج البريطاني سام ميندز.

روما: ضبط 7 أطنان من المتفجرات قادمة من إيران وترجيح سورية وجهة لها

الكشف عن شحنة (حليب مجفف متفجر) في ميناء إيطالي

    أعلنت السلطات الإيطالية امس أنها ضبطت 7 أطنان من المتفجرات بميناء جنوب البلاد قادمة من إيران باتجاه سورية.

ونقلت وكالة أنباء "آكي" الإيطالية" عن المدعي العام لمكافحة المافيا بيترو غراسو قوله "يجب تفسير سبب مرور شحنة المتفجرات التي ضبطت الليلة قبل الماضية والتي لا يبدو أنها مرسلة إلى أهداف ايطالية، عبر ميناء جويا تاورو قادمة من إيران ومرسلة إلى سورية".

ورأى غراسو أن هذه الشحنة قد "حادت بلا شك عن مسارها" .

ونقلت الوكالة عن مصادر أمنية مطلعة أن الشرطة الايطالية عثرت في ميناء جويا تورو بمقاطعة كالابريا على 7 أطنان من متفجرات "تي 4" كانت مخبأة في حاوية تحتوي على أكياس كبيرة للحليب المجفف، قادمة من إيران ويرجح انها كانت في طريقها الى سورية.

ويعتقد المحققون أن الشحنة لم تكن موجهة لصالح الجريمة المنظمة المحلية، بل انها كانت ضمن تجارة دولية لتهريب المتفجرات.

فرنسا أفضل مكان للعيش في أوروبا.. بريطانيا الأسوأ

    صنّفت دراسة جديدة نشرتها صحيفة "الصن" الأربعاء بريطانيا وإيرلندا كأسوأ مكان للعيش في أوروبا، في حين سمت فرنسا على أنها الأفضل. وقالت الدراسة إن البريطانيين لديهم عدد أقل من أيام العطل، ويدفعون المزيد من المال على السلع بالمقارنة مع نظرائهم في جميع الدول الأوروبية.

واشارت إلى أن أسعار وقود الديزل والمواد الغذائية في بريطانيا هي الأعلى في أوروبا، كما أن اسعار المشروبات والسجائر تفوق بكثير أسعارها في دول أوروبية أخرى.

واضافت دراسة مؤشر نوعية الحياة في أوروبا أن انفاق بريطانيا على الصحة والتعليم انخفض وصار يحاكي انفاق دول مثل بولندا في هذا المجال، فيما انخفض دخل الأسرة البريطانية وجعلها تحتل المرتبة الرابعة بين نظيرتها الأوروبيات بعدما كانت تتربع على المرتبة الأولى.

ووجدت الدراسة أن متوسط العمر المتوقع لدى البريطانيين هو أقل من المتوسط الأوروبي البالغ 79.3 سنة، كما أنهم يحصلون على ساعات أقل من ضوء الشمس بالمقارنة مع نظرائهم الأوروبيين وأفضل فقط من الايرلنديين والهولنديين.

واحتلت فرنسا المرتبة الأولى للسنة الثانية على التوالي تلتها اسبانيا في المرتبة الثانية والدنمارك في المرتبة الثالثة، كأفضل مكان للعيش في أوروبا.

ماذا في اسم العائلة في أوروبا ؟ .. هناك الكثير

    ­واجه العديد من الصحفيين الذين تقدموا للحصول على بطاقة اعتماد لدى الرئاسة الاسبانية للاتحاد الأوروبي في شهر كانون ثان-يناير الماضي مشكلة غير مألوفة ألا وهي أنهم ليس لديهم اسم عائلة كاف.

ويستخدم معظم سكان الاتحاد الأوروبي اسم عائلة واحد فقط لكل منهم. لكن العادات الأسبانية والبرتغالية تعطي مواطنيها اسمين ­ ولم يضع موقع الاعتماد الخاص بالرئاسة على الإنترنت باعتباره حلا وسطا لهذا الأمر.

"خطأ. هناك حقل مفقود. رجاء املأ حقل: اسم العائلة الثاني" ، هذا ما كان يعلنه الموقع الإلكتروني بفظاظة كل مرة للصحفيين الذين ليست لهم أصول أسبانية والذين يحاولون إدخال بياناتهم على الموقع دون وضع اسم العائلة الثاني الضروري لاستكمال إدخال البيانات.

ولم تنشر النتائج ، لكن الدليل المضحك من هيئة الصحافة في بروكسل ذكر أن خدمة الصحافة في الحكومة الأسبانية قبلت تسجيل اسم العائلة الثاني مثل "لا يوجد" و"ميكي ماوس" و"ليس لدي اسم هل لديك أنت" .

أي شخص يعتقد أن العولمة ستجعل من أوروبا أكثر التزاما بمعايير موحدة فيتعين عليه إلقاء نظرة على استخدام الألقاب في القارة.

لنأخذ اللغة الفرنسية والإنجليزية على سبيل المثال ، ففي الإنجليزية جرى العرف على كتابة اللقب بعد الاسم الأول على الوثائق مثل الخطابات وعناوين البريد الإلكتروني.

أما في الفرنسية ، فالعكس صحيح ، ما يسمح لهذا المراسل بجمع سلسلة من الاتصالات من مديري المصارف الناطقين بالفرنسية ومندوبي شركات التأمين والموجهة إلى "عزيزي نيمو" و"عزيزي نيمو بن" وربما " عزيزي السيد بن" .

من ناحية أخرى ، في وسط وشرق أوروبا ، تقضي القواعد اللغوية في اللغات السلافية والبلطيقية بأن اللقب يتعين أن يحصل على تمييز يدل على التذكير والتأنيث ­ لذا فإن التغيير يعتمد إذا ما كان صاحب اللقب ذكرا أم أنثى.

فعلى سبيل المثال ، الرئيس البولندي برونيسلاف كوموروفسكي متزوج من السيدة آنا كوموروفسكا. وبناتهما الثلاث هن زوسيا وماريسيا وإليزابيتا كوموروفسكا وابناهما هما تاديش وبيوتر كوموروفسكي ، ويشار للعائلة بأكملها باسم كوموروفشتي.

ويتخطى الأمر أكثر من الغرابة اللغوية ، لأن أحفاد البولنديين الذي هاجروا إلى الغرب في القرنين التاسع عشر والعشرين يجدون أن ألقابهم "مجمدة" في صيغة مذكرة بسبب المسئولين المحليين الذين لا يدركون تقاليديهم اللغوية.

ويمكن أن تكون النتيجة مجرد التباس ، حيث أن النساء اللائي لديهن ألقاب مذكرة مثل "لوبيلسكي" و"كوفالسكي" يرجعن إلى بلاد يتعين عليهن قطعا أن ينادين "لوبيلسكا" و"كوفالسكا" .

وتسبب تعقيدات لغوية مشابهة ، مشاكل مشابهة أيضا في لاتفيا. حيث ان هناك مشكلة تواجه اللاتفيين الذين يتزوجون من أجانب في بلادهم ثم يحاولون السفر للخارج.

وتنص قوانين لاتفيا أن الأسماء الأجنبية يجب أن يعاد كتابتها بطريقة تتماشى مع الطريقة اللاتفية للاستخدام في الوثائق الرسمية مثل ، عقود الزواج ووثائق السفر.

لذا فعندما تزوجت المواطنة اللاتفية أولغا-32 عاما- من رجل انجليزي يدعى "ماثيو" ، فإن لقبها سيصبح "ميتيوسا" وليس "ماثيوز" ­ وهو ما يتوافق مع القواعد اللغوية اللاتفية لكنه لا يتفق مع حرس الحدود الأجانب.

وقالت أولغا لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية(د.ب.أ) إنه " يتعين علينا كل مرة إظهار جوازي سفرنا ، يتعين علينا توضيح أننا متزوجان بالفعل. بدأنا اصطحاب عقد الزواج معنا ، تحسبا لأي موقف" .

وتقوم لاتفيا حاليا بإصدار وثائق سفر تظهر أيضا لقب حاملها في الشكل الأصلي ، لتجنب مثل هذا الالتباس.

لكن هذا لن يجدي نفعا في ليتوانيا ، التي لايقتصر الأمر فيها على كتابة لقب المرأة بطريقة صحيحة لغويا لكن يتعين أيضا الإشارة إلى حالتها الاجتماعية.

فعلى سبيل المثال ، رئيس الوزراء الحالي للبلاد أندرياس كوبيلوس متزوج ، وزوجته هي رازا كوبيليني ، لكن إذا كان لديهما ابنة فيتعين أن يكون لقبها كوبيليوتي.

لكن جائزة الألقاب الأكثر جذبا للأنظار يجب أن تحصل عليها بالتأكيد جمهورية التشيك.

فهناك ، ألقاب النساء لها نهايات مؤنثة ، وهي غالبا "ا" أو "أوفا" ، مثل نجمتي التنس "يانا نوفوتنا" و"مارتينا نافراتيلوفا" .

لكن القاعدة تنطبق أيضا على النساء الأجنبيات بما فيهن الزائرات رفيعات المستوى ونجمات السينما.

وبالتالي ، فإن الصحافة التشيكية تشير إلى المستشارة الألمانية أنجيلا ميركل باسم "أنجيلا ميركلوفا" والسيدة الأمريكية الأولى "ميشيل أوباما" باسم "ميشيل أوباموفا" ونجمة السينما "مارلين مونرو" باسم "مارلين مونرويوفا" .

وتساءل ويليام شكسبير ذات مرة قائلا "ماذا في الاسم ؟ هل إذا سمينا وردة بأي اسم آخر ستصبح رائحتها طيبة ".

وفى النهاية يرجع الأمر اليك لتحديد ماإذا كا سيظل اسم السيدة روز جميلا إذا اسميناها السيدة "روزي" أو السيدة "روزينا" أو السيدة "روزوفا" .

مهاجرون روس يقتلون مصرياً خلال محاولتهم التسلل إلى إسرائيل

    قال مسؤولون امنيون مصريون امس ان مجموعة من المهاجرين الروس كانوا في طريقهم للتسلل عبر الحدود المصرية الى اسرائيل قتلوا بدويا كان يعمل على تهريبهم ادعوا انه قام بمحاولة للاعتداء على احدى النساء في المجموعة.وذكر المسؤولون ان مجموعة من المهاجرين الروس، وهم 12 رجلا وأربع نساء، هاجموا المهرب البدوي مسعود سليم عودة قرب السياج الحدودي في منطقة وادي العمر في صحراء سيناء.

وأضاف احد المسؤولين ان افراداً في المجموعة ادعوا ان عودة حاول الاعتداء جنسيا على سيدة في المجموعة وأن احد المهاجرين طعنه بسكين كان يحملها معه ما ادى الى وفاته.واشار المسؤول ان المهاجرين سلموا أنفسهم إلى دورية حدودية.ويستخدم مهاجرون من مختلف الدول المنطقة الحدودية الصحراوية للعبور الى اسرائيل بحثا عن فرص عمل.
