I wonder if you have come across an oft-quoted couplet by Ghalib: Baazeecha-e-itfal hai duniya mere aage, hota hai shab-o-roz tamasha mere aage [To me this world is but where children play, amusing games unfold ’fore me all night and day]! INDIA HAS probably suffered more violent deaths this year than Iraq — much of it in terror attacks attributed by their perpetrators to Islam. Yet the big story of 2008 has been the Indian Muslims’ categorical rebuttal of Islamist terrorism, their unprecedented enthusiasm to prevent zealots from maligning their name and the name of their religion. They would now do well to deal a similar blow to vote bank politics which has yet again raised its ugly head to undo the good work done this year. (More)

Indian Muslims must give up their minority mindset and reach out to the larger India around them
EVER SINCE that icy Iowa evening 10 months ago, when an unheralded black American burst on to the global consciousness by turning the tables on the front-running wife of an ex-president in the first Democratic caucus of the US presidential election 2008, Muslims in India — and around the world — have been awaiting their own Barack Obama. With Obama’s election victory on November 4, that wait should now be over. (More)
