Racism & Discrimination

Racism & Discrimination

By: Tariq Al-Nasrallahالرؤية

Racism and discrimination are acts that do not belong in this new world. In Kuwait and many other countries in our region, racism and discrimination are practiced daily. Judging someone by their ethnic origins or nationality is becoming really popular in our region. People disrespect and abuse others because of their origin, religion and occupation.

Arab Comedy in the US

Arab Comedy in the US

Howdy,

I always wanted to be a comedian, but there are several things preventing me from fullfilling my dream..

I love watching comedy bits and a big fan of Standups.

Here is a link of few Arab Comedians. What I like about them is theyare using thier humor as a tool to market our long awaited activism. Unlike some of the old Arab Comedians who used to poke fun of others to get a laugh or two.

Comedy has changed alot and it is much more witty than what it used to be.

Here is an article about some of the new ones. Here is a Clip for comedian Ahmad Ahmad.

And here is my favorite of all MAZ JOBRANI . Feel free to browse through his clips and let me know.

See ya :-)

GMAT Essay Tips

Be sure to include brief introductory and concluding paragraphs, which are consistent with each other and with the paragraphs in the body of your essay.
Your essay must at least appear to be well organized. Use transition words and phrases to help the reader follow the flow of your discussion. For ideas, check out the transitional devices I've used in my sample Analysis-of-Issue essay and sample Analysis-of-Argument essay.
Compose your introductory paragraph last—after you've completed the rest of your essay. Why? Because you essay might evolve somewhat from your initial plan; if you've composed your introduction first, you might need to rewrite it.
For every point you make in a GMAT essay, always provide a reason and/or an example to support that point!
Pay close attention to writing mechanics—grammar, sentence construction, word usage and diction (whether you've used the right word for the right job). It doesn't matter if your essay contains brilliant ideas if you can't express them. In short: It's form over substance!!
It's okay to refer to yourself in your essays—at your option. Just don't overdo it. Phrases such as "I think," "it is my opinion that" and "in my view" are superfluous and a waste of your typing time.
Don't try to impress the reader with your vocabulary. There's nothing wrong with demonstrating a strong vocabulary. Just don't overdo it; otherwise the readers will suspect that you're using big words as a smokescreen for poor content.

Palestinian Refugees Donate to Survivors of Hurricane Katrina

Palestinian Refugees Donate to Survivors of Hurricane Katrina

Palestinian Refugees Donate to Survivors of
Hurricane Katrina
Report, PTT, 13 September 2005

RAMALLAH -- Palestinian refugees, moved by the plight of survivors of Hurricane Katrina will present US Consul-General, Jake Wallace, with a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross. The donation will be given today (13 September 2005) at 12 noon at the President’s Office in Ramallah. Dr. Rafiq Husseini, Chief of Staff of President Mahmoud Abbas will offer the donation on behalf of the President and Palestinian refugees. The donation will be earmarked to those survivors most affected by the Hurricane – the displaced poor, elderly and disabled. Money was recently collected by Palestinian refugees in the refugee camps of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.Commenting on the donation, President Abbas notes, "On behalf of the Palestinian people and, in particular, the refugee communities of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, I wish to express our deepest sympathy with the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. With our humble donation, we feel it is important to show our concern since Palestinians know all too well the pain and hardship caused by being a refugee. We pray that they will soon be able to return to their homes."

Ted Turner

Ted Turner

Salam,

I was watching David Letterman show last night, and one of his guests was Ted Turner, I was ver impressed with the interview and all what Turner has done and his attitude toward the war and how he is a peace man. Here is something Mr. Turner said:

" Ted believes good education and health care and a better standard of living is the best way to fight terrorism. Provide them with the above and they won't want to blow themselves up or go to war. He points out that the United States spends $400-500 billion a year on their military budget. The rest of the world spends the same amount. Is all that money spent on the military spent wisely? In a speech earlier this year, Ted went through a laundry list of the leading social problems around the world and the dollar cost of fixing them. For instance:-$15 billion a year for universal primary education of all children.-$4 billion a year for adult literacy-$10 billion a year for reproductive health and family planningOn and on and on Ted spelled it out in this speech. Total cost: $62 billion a year. He reminds us that the United States spends $500 billion on the military alone each year. And the U.S. wouldn't have to pay the entire $62 billion; it would be spread out across the world. "You don't stop terrorism with tanks, you stop it with hope," says Ted. Dang it, it makes sense to me. "

Then I also read this email from AL-AWDA about US aid to Israel:

Total Direct Aid to Israel Conservatively Estimated at Almost $105 Billion
By Shirl McArthur

TABLE 1. RECENT U.S. AID TO ISRAEL(millions of dollars)

Year Total Grant
1949-1996 68,030.9
1997 3,132.1
1998 3,080.0
1999 3,010.0
2000 4,129.1
2001 2,873.8
2002 2,848.0
2003 est. 3,741.1
2004 est. 2,687.3
Total: 93,534.6

Notes: The economic grant was earmarked for $960 million for FY2000 but was reduced to meet the 0.38% recision. FY2000 military grants include $1.2 billion for the Wye agreement and $1.92 billion in annual military aid. Final amounts for FY2003 are reduced by 0.65% mandated recision, and final amounts for FY2004 are reduced by 0.59%.
