The United Kingdom has stripped the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe
of his honorary knighthood tite. Queen Elizabeth II has approved the
annulment of the title on the recommendation of British Foreign
Secretary David Miliband. Mugabe has been stripped of his title as a
mark of revulsion againt human rights violations and utter disregard
for for the democratic process in the country.
I think that the move is not justified. Mr. Mugabe should also consider
calling it a day. It is the basic problem of the poor countries that
their rulers do not want to leave their office easily. Mr. Mugabe has a
long innings in which I think he has failed miserably. He should now
give way to someone else. This is the essence of democracy. Let the
people decide their future.
