Announcing Jordan Macintosh User Group

I'm happy to announce Jordan Macintosh User Group (JoMug). I'm a new Mac user, I recently got an Intel based MacBook Pro. The first day I used it, I got attached.

The Mac community is growing in Jordan, it came to my mind that we really need a social group to share knowledge together.  By the time we have around 20 members we can start to have monthly or biweekly meetings. Hopefully, we can start having lectures as well.

This is not a new experience to Jordan, an excellent attempt was made to found a Linux User Group (which I belong to). The attempt was successful and the group was founded by Isam Bayazidi under the name JoLug. The group meets frequently and had a major effect on the local scene.

I was highly encouraged  by my CEO, Hani Jabsheh, to start this group. He's one of the main reasons I migrated to Mac (not completely though). Too bad I got a Mac before he did :). He's supposed to get his new sexy 17" MacBook Pro in few days. There by, Hani and yours truly will be running this blog & list until we get more enthusiastic and experienced Mac users. This group will be open & democratic in nature.

I  hope this attempt will bring the Mac users together to get to know each other and share their tips, hacks, problems and solutions.

I have created a mailing list as well (http://groups.google.com/group/jomug) for general discussions.

Now I want to get a Mac too. But pray do tell, what is the point behind having a group for people who use the same machine/OS?

Another important question that comes to mind is related to the volume of Geek that the group will use. I don't speak Geek, and if I do get a Mac (one day) I would like to understand what the other members of the group are saying. Any comments on this note?

The idea is that people who use the same OS can share knowledge. Yet what is more important is the culture, people who use Linux or Mac tend to be interesting.

For the time being I guess most Mac users in Jordan are designers. So, there's no geek involved.

There is nothing Geek about Mac. It is completely different from Linux - which has a very high Geek factor. I think as Mac beginners it would be nice to exchange tips and tricks. You can speak to anyone about Windows (the dark side) but you really have to look hard for a Mac user. Hopefully with this you don't have to anymore.

Hi to all of you.

It's a great Idea, the JOMUG! I am a MAC user from Belgium, I am a member of the biggest Belgian MUG, called www.intermactivity.be.

The forum is in Dutch, so I guess you could not understand the subjects we're talking about. But to give you an idea: we now have 22.561 subjects, 184.913 posts, and 4.408 members! The MAC community is growing, hooray for that!

In three days i will spend my hollidays in Jordan (and a few days in Syrie) so i started looking for a MUG in Jordan.

I do have some little questions about Jordan, and hope that someone of you is prepared to answer my questions. (about culture, internet-bars, sandboarding,...). Please e-mail me so we can have contact by e-mail.

Thanks in advance and succes with your community!

Hi Bilal! Great to have you with us. The group is alive, but not very active, we're always looking for new blood to make things roll. Feel free to suggest anything you want to help :)

we definitly need to make this group active. Mac is not yet supported well in jordan, so we need to stick togather kind of.

infact one of the reasons why I was hesitant to get a mac was that once I come back to amman, I will be stuck all alone.

so knowing this group exists, got me excited and worth every second i spent switching to a mac.

cant wait to get my hands on leopard. so do you own a store for apple in amman? how much does and macbook (13 inch) cost?
