how to care for your Sony VGP-BPS2C battery to last longer
Because of the high failure rate of fleet VGP-BPS2C and the uncertain situations such failures create, some organizations assign a person to maintain batteries. This person checks all batteries on a scheduled basis, exercises them for optimum service life, and replaces those that fall below an accepted capacity level and do not recover with maintenance programs. Batteries perform an important function; giving them the care they deserve is appropriate.
A personal user is one who operates a mobile phone, a laptop computer or a video camera for business or pleasure. He or she will most likely follow the recommended guidelines in caring for the battery. The user will get to know the irregularities of the battery. When the runtime gets low, the battery often gets serviced or replaced. Critical failures are rare because the owner adjusts to the performance of the battery and lowers expectations as the battery ages.
The fleet user, on the other hand, has little personal interest in the battery and is unlikely to tolerate a pack that is less than perfect. The fleet user simply grabs a battery from the charger and expects it to last through the shift. The battery is returned to the charger at the end of the day, ready for the next person. Little or no care is given to these batteries. Perhaps due to neglect, fleet batteries generally have a shorter service life than those in personal use.
How can fleet batteries be made to last longer? An interesting contrast in the handling of fleet batteries can be noted by comparing the practices of the US Army and the Dutch Army, both of which use fleet batteries. The US Army issues batteries with no maintenance program in place. If the battery fails, another pack is issued. Little or no care is given and the failure rate is high.
The Dutch Army, on the other hand, has moved away from the open fleet system by making the soldiers responsible for their batteries. This change was made in an attempt to reduce battery waste and improve reliability. The batteries are issued in the soldier's name and the packs become part of their personal belongings. The results are startling. Since the Dutch Army adapted this new regime, the failure rate has dropped considerably and, at the same time, battery performance has increased. Unexpected down time has almost been eliminated.

whether we should stat with QWERTY laptop keyboard?
When we talk about laptop keyboard layout, we will think about QWERTY keyboard layout which was invented by Christopher Sholes 1868. Why, because we are trained to use QWERTY keyboards without any questionings. About 15 years ago, I still remembered that I had to paid for attending typing classes to learn how to use QWERTY keyboard without asking why each key has be to arranged in this specific layout.
Right now, with more and more PDA cellular phones with QWERTY keyboards released into the market, it is the right time to justify whether we should stat with QWERTY keyboard forever as typing on the small keyboard on a PDA Phone doesn’t really work well because of limited space.
Please leave your comment below if you think QWERTY keyboard do or doesn’t work well on small limited space environment such as on PDA or cellular phone.

Do you think laptop keyboards can cause your eye strain?
Like me, you might thik that eye strain is caused by looking at monitor for long hours, however the designer of VisiKey computer said that
“Most of this eye strain is caused by the computer monitor. However, some is caused by looking at the small font, and poor contrast of their current computer keyboard.”
So, “VisiKey™ keyboards reduce eye strain and may even eliminate some users need for corrective lenses when using their computer*.”
The 430% larger print of the keys on the keyboard do help a lot for novice users, but if your are an advanced typist, you probably never look at your keyboard at all while typing.

The actual life of a laptop battery will vary with computer usage habits. In a survey by chipmaker Intel, 57% of laptop users said they wished their batteries lasted longer. And that is wishful thinking, according to Isidor Buchmann, president and founder of Cadex Electronics in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He suggests that although batteries become about 10% more efficient every year, the average PC's power needs also increase by about the same amount. Result: The average battery life is still painfully short (just two to three hours for most laptop models).

Falling just short of carrying an extra pack of batteries in the back-pack, are several ways to keep the juice flowing through the batteries.
Regular defragmentation helps to arrange data more efficiently thus making the hard drive work less to access the data. The quicker the moving hard drive works lesser is the load placed on the battery. Thus, your batter can last longer. The effect is minimal, but this efficiency goes hand in glove with hard drive maintenance.
End the background processes that are not vital. Monitor the resource usage through a ‘Ctrl-Alt-Del’ which brings up the Windows Task Manager (in Windows). If you’re not on the internet, it is safe to shut down the immediate non-essential programs running in the taskbar like the antivirus and the firewall. Weed out unnecessary programs running as start-ups by launching the System Configuration Utility from Run – Msconfig – Tab: Startup. Uncheck the programs which you don’t want to launch and reboot the computer once.
It may be a defrag or a virus scan, but make sure it is scheduled for a time when you are near a power outlet. If not then nix them for the moment.
USB devices are the biggest drainers of battery power. Unplug all external devices like an external mouse, PC cards, Wi-Fi, external speakers, Bluetooth and even an attached iPod.
Even if you don’t intend to use it, don’t leave any CD/DVDs as leftovers in the drives. A spinning drive sucks battery power like a sponge.
Desist using the DVD/external drives while running on batteries. Shift the content to the hard drive or run using (free) virtual drives like Pismo File Mount or even Microsoft’s Virtual CD ROM Control Panel.
The LCD screen of a laptop is another huge power sink. Calibrate the brightness to the lowest level you can tolerate using the Function key toggles or using the Display Settings applet in the Control Panel.

your quote “Please keep in mind if you buy a new computer you should aways fully charge the battery first before using the computer. Otherwise you could damage the laptop battery.”
forgive the dumb question- does the above translate as: insert battery, turn on mains power adapter but don’t press the laptop’s power button to boot laptop to it’s os desktop??

That is just one of the many test that you can choose to run on your laptop computers. It really does not matter what test you run on it, but you should definitely run a test of some kind. By doing this you are going to know if your laptop is ready for use. It would be bad if you were trying to use it for school or work, and the battery was not good. In the middle of using it, it may cut off. Do not put yourself in one of those kinds of spots. Check your batteries first to make sure that your computer is not going to cut off on you during something important.

Some basic About ac adapters' compatibility
Frankly speaking, for the IT repairers such adapters are a source of bread! The male connector of such units, attached to the notebook’s socket, is torn off more commonly than the genuine AC adapter connectors.
Trying to economize several dollars (despite the fact that genuine adapter are not more costly) or making another choice simply because of the necessary detail’s absence, some individuals purchase “compatible” AC adapters.
Their amperage and voltage is to some angle correspondent to the necessity of your notebook, and commonly irregular flow, in some cases really unwarranted, and their irritating ability "to spoil the fuses” when simultaneously roasting the laptop’s motherboard and various power cards, are a significant deal for technicians’ job.

The frequency of their failure occurrence, really significant, in a potential and inevitable way, makes these units quite inappropriate for use, thus, I always misadvise them. When the compatible components are less costly and as effective as the genuine ones I advice applying them as laptop ingredients. But the AC adapters are an exclusion from this rule.

Regardless of the model of laptop and the type of batteries that you use, there are several basic tricks that you can use to extend your laptop's battery life. One of the easiest ways is to make use of the your computer's power settings. This option can usually be found when you click on the battery icon on your tool bar. When on battery, make sure that the option is set to a 'power saver' mode. In this option, there will be a slight compromise in your laptop's performance for a longer battery life.
Another easy way to extend your battery's life is to dim the display screen. Lower the brightness of your laptop's display to the minimum and you will notice a considerable increase in your battery's life.
Generally it is not good to keep your fully charged battery plugged in when the power point is plugged in. The constant 'over-charging' will decrease the performance of the battery over time. Also, try to only charge the battery when it is fully drained.
10. Keep operating temperature down - Your laptop operates more efficiently when it’s cooler. Clean out your air vents with a cloth or keyboard cleaner, or refer to some extra tips by LapTopMag.com.
11. Set up and optimize your power options - Go to ‘Power Options’ in your windows control panel and set it up so that power usage is optimized (Select the ‘max battery’ for maximum effect).
12. Don’t multitask - Do one thing at a time when you’re on battery. Rather than working on a spreadsheet, letting your email client run in the background and listening to your latest set of MP3’s, set your mind to one thing only. If you don’t you’ll only drain out your batteries before anything gets completed!
13. Go easy on the PC demands - The more you demand from your PC. Passive activities like email and word processing consume much less power than gaming or playing a DVD. If you’ve got a single battery charge - pick your priorities wisely.
14. Get yourself a more efficient laptop - Laptops are getting more and more efficient in nature to the point where some manufacturers are talking about all day long batteries. Picking up a newer more efficient laptop to replace an aging one is usually a quick fix.
15. Prevent the Memory Effect - If you’re using a very old laptop, you’ll want to prevent the ‘memory effect’ - Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries (which most laptops have) which do not suffer from the memory effect.

There are several tips on Selecting the correct PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter
Before purchasing an PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter you need to make sure make the PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter will give you the correct voltage and suitable current output. To find out the voltage & current, turn your laptop over and look for a label, sticker or writing which shows the voltage and current, it should look something like the examples below. The voltage figure will have a "V" after the number i.e 19V and the current will have a "A" or "mA". i.e 3.15A. You can also find these shown on your original PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter if you have it. The Voltage must be within 10% of your original PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapters Voltage. The Amps may be higher but they cannot by lower.
If you are purchasing a universal PA3469U-1ACA Adapter or Car Charger you will need to work out the Watts of your original PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter and select the universal PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter or Car Charger with the same Watts or next highest Wattage. You can work out the Wattage by multiplying the Voltage by the Amps i.e 20V X 3A = 60 Watts. There is no 60 Watt PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter so you will need to select the next step up which is the 70 Watt PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter. PLEASE NOTE: If the wattage requirement for your laptop is lower than the 60W or 90W output of the adapter, it will not damage your laptop, your laptop will only take the amount of power it requires. I.E. If your laptop needs 45W, then either the 60W or 90W will work OK. If your laptop needs 80W then you will need the 90W one as the 75W one will not be powerful enough.
If in doubt please email us on our contacts page.
Once you have selected you Brand and Model from the Search Wizard it will display the compatible PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapters under the product column. Once you have clicked on the battery you will be redirected to the page displaying alllt he information about the PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter. Click on the photo of the PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapter to enlarge the image and view the tip dimensions to ensure they are similar to your original PA3469U-1ACA AC Adapters tip dimensions.

There are Five Tips for keeping your laptop computer clean.
step1:
Start at the fan, then work your way to the ducts and vents. Look under the ribbon cables, around the hard drive, and near the tiny circuit boards. Grime can hide in the oddest places, like the processor's copper-coloured heat sink, so make sure you explore all the laptop's nooks and crannies.
Now that you're inside the laptop, use a torch to look around for built-up dust and dirt. Using the eraser-end of a pencil or tweezers, pick off any nasty deposits you come across.
Step 3:
Now that you've made your first pass at cleaning out the inside, give your laptop a little shake to dislodge any particularly resilient dust and grime. Keep cleaning and shaking until nothing more comes out.
Step 2:
You've done the detail work, and now it's time to go big. Put on a dust mask, if you have one. Grab the can of compressed air and spray down the inside of your laptop. Go nuts. Blow out all the dust you can find. It won't be pretty, and you might want to have a vacuum cleaner running nearby to grab all the junk it as it comes out. Don't be surprised if a lot comes out of that little laptop.
Step 4:
Now that the inside of your laptop is as clean as a whistle, it's time to tidy up that nasty keyboard. Don't be embarrassed by what you find: Most keyboards have enough crumbs to feed a flock of pigeons for weeks. Use the can of compressed air to blow it clean, but be careful not to break any keys off.
Step 5:
While you've still got the laptop open, give each of the major components a quick look to see if any are loose. A loose motherboard or hard drive can cause damage in the long run, so make sure all of the screws are tight and all of the cables are well connected. When tightening the screws, be careful not to overdo it -- gently tighten until you feel some resistance. When you're done, reconnect the access panels on the underside of your laptop.
Step 6:
All laptop screens are susceptible to nicks and scratches, and the latest glossy, high-contrast displays show off fingerprints that even Columbo couldn't miss. We like to give our screens a quick rubdown about once a week. You can use any brand of window cleaner so long as it doesn't contain ammonia or any harsh detergents. We're partial to Sprayway, because it gets all foamy and doesn't leave annoying streaks; unfortunately, Sprayway can be hard to find in some places, and you may have to make a special trip to a glass or mirror store to find it.
