Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb Issues Third Installment of “Series of the Swords’ Shadows”, Featuring Attack on Algerian Police in Takhoukht

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, in its video series, “The Swords’ Shadows”, issued to jihadist forums yesterday, Monday, July 2, 2007, the third installment, 27:33 minutes in length, containing footage of the preparation and attack on two “apostate” Algerian police vehicles in Takhoukht, in Tizi Ouzou. The video bears the date of June 2007, but it is not known if this is the time frame of the attack. Presenting the Mujahideen as supporters of the Muslims against the evil and tyranny of the enemy are excerpts from prior speeches of the emir of the group, Abu Musab Abdul Wadud, including his appeal in granting amnesty to those Algerian security forces who renounce their positions and join the Mujahideen, a speech from March 2007. Regarding the featured ambush, it is described as an “example of the successful ambushes done by the Mujahideen to terrorize the enemy, who, on every road, they expect the bullets which will penetrate their bodies.”

Preparation for the attack is shown in the form of manufacturing explosives and speeches aimed at inciting the Mujahideen and telling of the joys of paradise for those Muslims who do jihad for the “Cause of Allah”, one led by field commander Ali Abu al-Dahdah, and culminate in the operation. Two cars which travel down a road are subjected to heavy gunfire, each exploding and one occupant shown as a charred carcass. Footage of the operation is taken from two cameras, each at a different angle. According to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, no less than seven “apostates” were killed in the attack, and none of the Mujahideen were killed as they withdrew from the site, despite the appearance of enemy helicopters.
