How to Survive a Long Fall

"If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you" - Arthur McAuliff

What can you do if you slip off the scaffolding 10 stories above the ground or, worse yet, if your parachute fails during a skydive? The odds are not on your side. Is it possible to survive a free-fall from 50, 250, or 25,000 feet above the ground? The answer is yes. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of people who have fallen from such heights and lived to tell the tale. While most of it comes down to luck, there are ways you can influence your velocity, the duration of your deceleration, and the distribution of the impact forces upon your body, and ultimately increase your chance of survival.

Steps

  1. The arch position
    The arch position
Slow down your fall. Unless you’re falling from an airplane, you won’t have enough time to try this step. Maximize your surface area by spreading yourself out. Use skydiving technique to stabilize yourself: position yourself so that the front of your body faces the ground; arch your back and pelvis and tilt your head back like you’re trying to touch the back of your head to the back of your legs; extend your arms so that your upper arms are straight out to the sides, and bend your elbows at a 90 degree angle so that your lower arms and hands point forward (parallel to, and on the sides of, your head) with your palms facing down; spread your legs to shoulder width, and bend your knees slightly.
  2. Find the best landing spot. This step can only be performed if falling from an airplane. For very high falls, the surface on which you land is the greatest influence on your chance of survival. Observe the terrain below you as you are falling. Hard, inflexible surfaces such as concrete are the worst on which to fall. Very uneven or jagged surfaces, which present less surface area to distribute the force of impact, are also undesirable. The best possible surfaces on which to fall are snow, deep water (preferably water that is fast moving or frothy, such as the kind found at the bottom of a waterfall; see Warnings), soft ground (such as that in a newly tilled field or in a marsh), and trees or thick vegetation (although these present a high risk of impalement). If you are over an urban area, you probably won’t be able to control your flight precisely enough to choose a good landing surface, but glass- or tin-roofed structures, awnings, and cars are preferable to streets and concrete rooftops.
  3. U.S. soldiers performing a free-fall.
    U.S. soldiers performing a free-fall.
Steer yourself to the landing spot. If you’re falling from an airplane, you will usually have about 1-3 minutes before impact, depending on your starting altitude. You will also have the ability to travel horizontally (while, obviously, traveling vertically) a good distance (up to a couple of miles). From the arch position described above, you can direct your flight forward by pulling your arms slightly back at the shoulders (so that they are not extended forward as much) and straightening (extending) your legs. You can move backward by extending your arms and bending your knees as though you are trying to touch the back of your head with your heels. Right turns may be accomplished while staying in the arch position by twisting your upper body slightly to the right (dipping your right shoulder), and left turns are performed by dipping the left shoulder.
  4. Bend your knees. Possibly nothing is more important to surviving a fall (or simpler to do) than bending your knees. Research has shown that having one’s knees bent at impact can reduce the magnitude of impact forces 36-fold. Also, the physics equation for momentum p = γ m v suggests that increasing the massive surface falling would decrease velocity for the conserved momentum value, so bending knees decreases the force on the surface in contact with the floor.
  5. Relax. Relaxing during a long fall—especially as you near the ground—is easier said than done, but try anyway. If your muscles are tense, your body will transfer force more directly to your vital organs. Studies of long-fall survivors have shown that those who reported being relaxed suffered, on average, far less severe injuries than those who reported being panicked or tense. It has also been shown that people who jump intentionally and those who are intoxicated at the time of the fall have disproportionately higher survival rates than fall victims in general. While the reason for these higher survival rates is unclear, one likely explanation is that people who are drunk or who actually want to die may be more relaxed before and upon impact. One way to remain (relatively) calm is to focus on performing the steps and being aware of your body. Doing so gives you something else to think about besides impending death.
  6. Land feet-first. No matter what height you fall from, you should always try to land on your feet. While landing feet-first concentrates the impact force (in pounds per square inch) on a small area, it also allows your feet and legs to absorb the worst of the impact. If you are in any other position, try to right yourself before you hit the ground (fortunately, attaining the feet-first position seems to be an instinctive reaction). Keep your feet and legs tightly together so that both your feet hit the ground at the same time.
  7. Land on the balls of your feet. Point your toes slightly down before impact so that you will land on the balls of your feet. This will allow your lower body to more effectively absorb the impact.
  8. Protect your head on the bounce. When you fall from a great height onto land, you will usually bounce. Some people who survive the initial impact (often with a feet-first landing) suffer a fatal injury on their second impact. Cover your head with your arms. One technique for doing so is to put your arms on the sides of your head with your elbows facing forward (and projecting in front of your face) and your fingers laced behind your head or neck. This covers a large portion of your head, but obviously not all of it. If you have time to get an indication of which way you’re bouncing (and hence which part of your head you’re likely to hit), you can quickly adjust your arms to cover that part of your head.
  9. Control the orientation of your body on the bounce. As you would expect, mortality is highest when the initial point of impact is the head. Mortality declines (in this order) when the point of impact is ventral (the front of the body), dorsal (back of the body), lateral (side of the body), and feet-first. Assuming you succeed in taking the brunt of the initial impact feet-first, you should try to control your body upon initial impact and during the bounce so that you land on your side or back on the second impact. Ideally, you should twist your hips to one side or the other immediately upon initial impact. At much lower velocities (such as those experienced with a proper parachute-assisted landing), this motion will help you distribute the force first through your legs, then through your buttocks and shoulder. In reality, you will be going as much as five or six times faster than you would with a parachute and your control over your body’s motion will be severely limited. The key is to stay aware of your body and your surroundings and, even in midair on the bounce, try to get your body to land first on your legs or side.
  10. Get medical help immediately. With all the adrenaline flowing in response to your flight, you may not even feel injured upon landing. Even if you are not visibly injured, you may have sustained fractures or internal injuries that must be treated immediately. No matter how you’re feeling, get to a hospital as quickly as possible.

Tips

  • Water landings are best done landing feet-first with legs tight together and arms extended straight above your head, while leaning back very slightly. Leaning back helps to reduce forced unnatural movement of the neck and the amount of water that will rush up your nose. If in doubt, you basically want to be as straight vertical as possible. There is some disagreement on whether, when entering water from a very high fall, your feet should be flat or you should point your toes down. Pointing your toes down serves to minimize the surface area of your body that comes into contact with the water, thus minimizing the effect of surface tension. Going in with your feet flat, however, may better concentrate the initial impact on your lower body. A similar point can be made if entering the water head-first: pointing your fingers straight above your head (actually below your head since you’re upside-down) reduces surface tension, while flattening your palms against the water (again, above your head) creates a “shadow” that may serve to protect your head a bit. For very high falls, proper diving technique (that is, head-first entry) should not be used because it will be nearly impossible for an untrained diver to correctly execute at such high speeds. You will travel quite deep into the water, so try to keep your wits about you and quickly swim toward the surface (look for light). When you enter the water you will create a path of bubbles which may be followed as they float up towards the surface. If there is no light, follow the bubbles.
  • It can be argued that you will be traveling so quickly you won’t have time to adjust your position at impact or during the bounce. This may or may not be so. Research has indicated that in high-stress situations such as a free-fall, your perception of time may be slowed significantly, possibly even enough to consciously perform movements that you would ordinarily not have enough “subjective time” to do. In other words, you can think faster.
  • Choose a large landing spot. Unless you have substantial skydiving experience, you will probably not be able to steer with much precision. While it might be great to steer yourself so that you land on a large pile of mattresses, you will probably not be able to identify small targets from great heights, and you will almost certainly not be able to guide yourself to them. Your primary goal should be to steer yourself away from particularly undesirable surfaces.
  • Skydiving turns are not easy to perform without practice, and you may find yourself flipping and spinning wildly at some point in your flight. Try to regain stability by going into the arch position. If nothing else, the stability will help you to remain somewhat calm.
  • If you are in an arch position while falling from an airplane, try to get your body vertical well before you hit the ground so that you don’t get caught in some other position at impact (as a guide, keep in mind that at 1,000 feet, depending on your velocity, you have about 6-10 seconds before impact). As far as your chances of survival, the benefits of a feet-first landing will generally outweigh the increase in velocity that will occur when you switch from the arch to the feet-first position.
  • Good physical condition and youth seem to positively influence free-fall survival rates. You can’t change your age, but if you’re looking for yet another reason to get in shape, here it is.

Warnings

  • If choosing to land in water, it is important to understand that unless the water is quite deep and you land feet-first with your body nearly vertical, water will cushion you about as much as concrete. In addition, if you survive the impact, you may be severely injured and/or unconscious, and thus the risk of drowning is high.
  • Neither the authors nor wikiHow endorse attempting a long free-fall. The procedures outlined here, even if executed perfectly, cannot guarantee survival of a fall from heights, and your chances of surviving such a fall are slim, at best. In fact, no procedure has been proven consistently effective to survive such falls without the use of a parachute or other protective equipment. This is because:

    • It is not possible to perform adequate scientifically controlled experiments to find out how the human body reacts to very high falls (though simulations have been attempted);
    • It is almost never possible to determine the exact circumstances of any given case of a fall that has already occurred, let alone a statistically meaningful sample of many cases; and
    • People very seldom survive falls from heights of 100 feet or more, and mortality is high even at heights of 20-30 feet. It is always best not to fall at all.

Tests close in on 400-year-old Jamestown bones' identity

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA (AP) -- Bones discovered four years ago at the site of America's first permanent English settlement could be those of Jamestown's unsung founder, a knight or a captain.

A tooth analysis did not rule out that the skeleton is, as Jamestown researchers had theorized, that of Capt. Bartholomew Gosnold, principal organizer of the expedition from England that established Jamestown in 1607. Next year marks the settlement's 400th anniversary.

But test results released Monday also suggest two other possible candidates: Sir Ferdinando Wenman, a knight and the master of ordnance at Jamestown, and Capt. Gabriel Archer, a lawyer who was the first recorder of Jamestown.

Gosnold is still the leading candidate, based on historical, archaeological and forensic evidence, said William Kelso, director of archaeology at the Jamestown site.

"I still think the evidence lines up, until proven otherwise, that we have Gosnold," Kelso said in a telephone interview.

A tooth analysis was taken of a skeleton buried in a church grave in Shelley, England. The analysis suggests it is that of Gosnold's sister, Elizabeth Gosnold Tilney. However, DNA tests on the two skeletons don't match, showing they're not related.

"While it would appear that the body discovered in Jamestown is not Gosnold, the coffin with the staff makes it clear that it is the grave of an important early settler," said James Halsall, spokesman for the Church of England's Diocese of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

The skeleton was buried in a coffin -- usually reserved at the time for people of higher status -- with a captain's staff placed on the lid, in a spot outside Jamestown's triangular fort.

Kelso said that makes Wenman the least likely candidate because a knight would more likely be buried with his sword.

Archer was a captain, but he died during the "Starving Time" winter of 1609-1610. Kelso said it is doubtful Archer would have been ceremoniously buried in a coffin outside the fort during that period, when Jamestown was under siege by Indians.

In the tooth test, the National Environment Research Council Isotope Geosciences Laboratory of the British Geological Survey studied strontium and oxygen isotopes in tooth enamel. The isotope ratios, compared with the ratio of isotopes in drinking water, can determine where a person lived during childhood, when the teeth are formed.

Gosnold was born and grew up in the Otley area of southeast Suffolk in England. The tests show the Jamestown skeleton was that of someone who probably came from southern England, but the results are inconsistent with the chalk-dominated terrain of Otley.

However, geological conditions a few miles south of Otley would satisfy the chemical signature found in the tooth of the Jamestown skeleton, researchers said, so Gosnold can't be ruled out because he could have been eating food and drinking water from nearby areas.

'Kramer' apologizes for racist tirade

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Michael Richards said Monday he spewed racial epithets during a stand-up comedy routine because he lost his cool while being heckled and not because he's a bigot.

"For me to be at a comedy club and flip out and say this crap, I'm deeply, deeply sorry," the former "Seinfeld" co-star said during a satellite appearance for David Letterman's "Late Show."

"I'm not a racist. That's what's so insane about this," Richards said, his tone becoming angry and frustrated as he defended himself in a clip from the show played on CBS before "Late Show" aired Monday night.

Richards described himself as going into "a rage" over the two audience members who interrupted his act Friday at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood. Richards responded to the black hecklers with repeated use of the "n word" and profanities.

Jerry Seinfeld, who had issued a statement saying he was "sick over this horrible, horrible mistake" and calling it offensive, was scheduled as a Letterman guest Monday. He encouraged Richards to make a satellite appearance to talk about the incident, a CBS publicist said.

"I'm sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt," Seinfeld said in a statement.

Richards, 57, who played Seinfeld's eccentric neighbor Kramer on the hit 1989-98 sitcom and whose major credit since was a failed 2000 comedy, hadn't spoken publicly about his remarks before the "Late Show." Calls to his representatives were not returned Monday.

A video posted on TMZ.com shows Richards launching into the tirade after two black audience members started shouting at him that he wasn't funny.(Watch Michael Richards spew racial epithets to the audience at the Laugh Factory Video)

Richards retorts: "Shut up! Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f------ fork up your a--."

He then paces across the stage taunting the men for interrupting his show, peppering his speech with racial slurs and profanities.

"You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now mother------. Throw his a-- out. He's a n-----!" Richards shouts before repeating the racial epithet over and over again.(Watch Harvey Levin of TMZ.com talk about the incident Video)

While there is some chuckling in the audience throughout the outburst, someone can be heard gasping "Oh my God" and various people "ooh" after Richards uses the n-word.

Eventually someone says: "It's not funny. That's why you're a reject, never had no shows, never had no movies. `Seinfeld,' that's it."

On Monday, about a half-dozen community activists gathered at the club to denounce Richards' remarks and demand an apology.

"These kind of comments hurt all of us," said protester Lita Sister Herron of the Youth Advocacy Coalition. She called Richards' comments "hate speech."

The protesters also demanded an apology from the Laugh Factory. At a news conference a short time later, club owner Jamie Masada expressed remorse and said Richards will not be back at the club until he says he's sorry.

"This is one thing we don't tolerate. ... I personally apologize. I apologize from my heart," Masada said Monday.

Richards did appear at the club Saturday, without incident, but that was because he had told the club he intended to apologize, according to a Laugh Factory statement Monday.

Calls to Richards' representatives were not returned Monday.

He refused to comment on-camera when reached by CNN, but the network reported he said off-camera he felt sorry for what had happened and had made amends.

Comic Paul Rodriguez, who was at the club, said he thought Richards' remarks crossed the line.

"Once the word comes out of your mouth and you don't happen to be African-American, then you have a whole lot of explaining," he said. "Freedom of speech has its limitations and I think Michael Richards found those limitations."

Rodriguez, also at the news conference, said: "I kept expecting a punch line. It didn't come."

Veteran publicist Michael Levine, whose clients have included famed comedians George Carlin, Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield, called Richards' remarks inexcusable. Comics often face hecklers without losing their cool, he said.

"It's never seen anything like this is my life," Levine said Monday. "I think it's a career ruiner for him. ... It's going to be a long road back for him, if at all."

Daryl Pitts, a Laugh Factory audience member interviewed by CNN, compared the incident to another recent celebrity controversy.

"You think about Mel Gibson and what he said, and put that in the context of this, it's very upsetting," Pitts said, referring to Gibson's anti-Semitic outburst during his arrest for drunken driving.

Scrutiny of Richards' remarks likely will continue but won't match the level prompted by Gibson's behavior because Richards is far less famous, Levine said.

Comedian George Lopez told Los Angeles television station KTLA he thought Richards' lack of stand-up experience may have been a factor.

"You have an actor who is trying to be a comedian who doesn't know what to do when an audience is disruptive," Lopez said. "He's an actor whose show has been off the air, he shouldn't ever be on a stand-up gig."

Fun Stuff - How to Bathe When Water Is Scarce!

How to Bathe When Water Is Scarce

The luxury of the bath is threatened when water is low
The luxury of the bath is threatened when water is low

With increasing problems of water supply in many parts of the world, thrifty use of water has become an essential trait for all of us. Even if you think water is gushing out in your part of the world, it may not always stay that way. Here are some tips for making the most of very little water.

Steps

  1. Take a shower instead of a bath. A bath uses a lot more water than a short shower. Considering that each minute under the average shower uses 2.5 gallons of water and an average full bath tub takes 35 gallons of water, a five minute shower will use 12.5 gallons instead of the average bath's 35 gallons. Make the shower even shorter and you're saving a lot more. You don't need more than 1 minute under a shower to get properly clean - the rest of the stay is enjoyment.
  2. Only fill the bathtub a quarter or half way. Doing this will lessen the water usage. It will also make you colder in colder weather, so the shower is again preferable for colder days. However, this is usually fine for small kids in any weather. A good rule of thumb is to fill no more than 5 inches for small kids, and 10 inches for adults and older children.
  3. Share a bath. You and your beloved can hop into the bath together rather than filling it up again. Children can share one bath, or at least one after the other can use the same bathwater but there will be complaints from the children following that the bathwater is cold.
  4. Put the plug in your bathtub during a shower. If your shower sits over your bathtub, pop the plug in while you shower. Then your feet can luxuriate in the water and you can have a quick dip at the end of the shower. However, the big drawback is that this water will usually be cool and full of suds.
  5. Have a sponge bath. If you've ever been in the Armed Forces, or camped rough, you'll know this one. It is simply a case of putting water into the basin (you at least have the luxury of warm water!), dipping a sponge into it, soaping up the sponge and then washing over your body. Pay particular attention to underarms, genital region and feet. Your face should be washed separately with a softer cloth. Rinse the soap off of the sponge (put clean water on the sponge). It may sound icky but it works just as well as a shower; it is just that we've become accustomed to sheer luxury in our bathroom habits.
  6. Take a "Navy Shower". In a dire water emergency, use this to save on water and still get a clean feeling. Turn on the shower and jump under it and wet yourself. Turn it off, soap up. Then jump in and wash off soap quickly. Turn off shower and dry yourself really quickly.
  7. Think laterally. If you have smelly, tired feet, just bathe them in a bowl. You can also soak scratches and similar injuries in just a small bowl, as long as they are on a leg or an arm.
  8. Install a low-flow shower head. This will make the most of the least amount of water coming out.
  9. Switch to the bucket-and-mug method. This is the most economical and has been used in many countries even when water wasn't so scarce. It does entail sitting on a low wood or other waterproof stool, or squatting. You will be surprised by how little water (usually one bucketful) you really need in order to bathe well. The hot-water source is typically an installed overhead "instant" geyser.

Tips

  • Take a quick shower instead...
    Take a quick shower instead...
Recycle your bathwater. Bucket it outside to your plants or rig up a hose and pump through your window and pump it outside. If you're really serious, install a gray water system.
  • Teach children to get used to the shower early. Many are afraid of the ferocity of the water pressure - make sure the nozzle can provide soft, gentle flow over the child's head and get a nozzle that can be both lifted off and moved down to the child's height. It may cost a little more at the outset but the water savings will be huge in the long run and your life suddenly gets easier when a child can shower from an early age.
  • Install a rainwater tank or a rain barrel. Not only is the water supply more dependable for you, it does absolute wonders for your hair.
  • Fix drips immediately. A lot of water is lost through a dripping tap every day.
  • For more information on conserving water, look on Google for websites in areas or countries that have water problems now and use that information to improve water usage in your home and area. Such places with severe water shortage problems include Australia, California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, UK, Spain etc.

Warnings

  • Don't waste water, it's precious and you'll notice it when it's gone.
  • Be aware of local water laws. In water scarce areas or where there are strong water rights laws it may be illegal to use greywater or rainwater.

While their speed makes them ideal for racing—camel races are very popular in many parts of the world—it can provide a camel rider with a harrowing, potentially deadly experience if a camel is spooked or otherwise begins to run out of control.

Steps

  1. Stay calm. The camel will eventually stop. In fact, a runaway camel will usually regain its composure and slow down pretty quickly. Until it does, you need to keep your wits about you.
  2. Hang on to the reins. Because camels are cud-chewing animals (they are constantly chewing), their reins are usually attached to a peg inserted into the nose, as opposed to being attached to a bit in the mouth, as is the case with horses. Thus, unlike with a horse, you can’t try to steer an out-of-control camel by pulling hard on the reins. A hard pull will break the reins or, worse, tear the peg out of the camel’s nose, which will cause it to panic even more. While you don’t want to pull on the reins too much, you do want to make sure to keep hold of them so you can steer the camel once it slows down.

    • A seated camel. Note the head halter.
A seated camel. Note the head halter.
If the reins are attached to a head halter, as is often the case with camels that are ridden on tourist expeditions, you can pull on the reins to get the camel to turn in a circle and, eventually, slow down. Work with the camel, not against it. Pull the reins to the side that the camel wants to turn its head. If the camel decides to turn its head the other way, allow it to do so, and pull the rein on that side instead.
  3. Consider a quick dismount. If the camel is just starting to pick up speed and won’t respond to commands to stop, consider sliding off. This is especially useful if you have lost the reins. Kick out of the stirrups and attempt to hit the ground running, bending your knees slightly as you land. Note that this should not be attempted at high speeds unless there is impending danger ahead (a cliff, for example). Once you’re on the ground, try to grab the reins. The camel will most likely come to a stop once you have the reins in your hands again.
  4. Hang on. The camel will eventually stop. Your goal is to hold on until it does. Press yourself to the camel to lower your center of gravity, grip the camel between your legs, and hold the horn of the saddle. If you aren’t using a saddle, just hold on as well as you can, and try to lean back a little so that you avoid riding near the tip of the hump, which will be a very bumpy ride at high speeds.
  5. Get off the camel once you have it under control. Once the wild ride is over, have the camel sit. Dismount and continue to hold the reins.

Tips

  • Don’t get angry with the camel or strike it after you have it under control. While your adrenaline may be pumping, it’s important that you keep your cool. Camels tend to hold grudges, so if you frighten or mistreat them, they are liable to be unpleasant in the future.
  • Make sure you have sturdy reins and a head halter, especially if you don’t have much riding experience. A head halter can make it much easier to regain control of your camel, and you won’t have to worry about hurting it by ripping the peg out of its nose.
  • Learn and memorize the correct commands to give a camel while riding it. Different camels are trained to respond to different commands.
  • Only apply a slight pull to the reins when trying to get the camel to turn. It usually doesn’t take much, and an overzealous pull can hurt your camel if the reins are attached to a nose peg.
Camels generally don't like to be alone in unfamiliar places, so a runaway camel will often come back on its own. This racing camel is looking for its caretaker. Later, he trotted back down the track the way he came.

  • Most, but not all, camels like to stay close to the herd or close to home, so if you fall from your camel, the camel will likely come back once it calms down.

Shocking But True - Britney Spears Divorce! Kevin Federline Single!

Britney Spears Divorce! Kevin Federline Single!

Posted in Britney Spears by Elliott Back on November 8th, 2006. [Del.icio.us]

Britney has filed for divorce. Yes, I know I’m late on this, but I’ve been busy. We also all knew that this was coming–who could stay married to their backup dancer with kids for very long? Even the nanny was more of a man!

The divorce cites the classic “irreconcilable differences” and requests custody of her two sons, with “reasonable visitation rights” for K-Fed.

Here’s what he’ll be able to extract from the terms of his prenup:

  • Half of their mansion will go to Kevin
  • Kevin gets $30,000 a month for half the length of their marriage. Since they were married for 2 years and 1 month, that means a hefty payout of $360,000 over the next year. With $1000 a day of pocket money, Kevin can still buy love.

That’s it though–Kevin has to pay child support for his own children, and return any gifts given to him worth $10,000 or more. Perez Hilton has the fabulous theory that dumping Federline is her way of increasing liquidity:

Without touring, and getting paid for commercial endorsements, Spears doesn’t have much of a profitable career these days. Add in two kids, a husband with expensive tastes who doesn’t earn money, various family members and employees, and Spears could be facing Michael Jackson type financial problems. Offloading Federline, even with a prenup, is probably the first best thing she can do to cut expenses.

So my readers, how do you feel about the divorce? Was it the right move?

A special invitation was presented by Lebanese singer Elissa to every Arab woman, who is looking to rediscover her beauty. This invitation is part of a campaign for Lux elegant festival, which is currently taking place, in its fifth consecutive year.

According to the London based Elaph, the event will host some of the most important names of Arab fashion designers and will present fashion shows for their latest designs. VIPs from Lebanon and other countries throughout the Arab world are to be presents, in addition to a number of stars. alissa

Elissa is Lux’s representative in the Arab world for a second year. She said that every woman remembers her childhood when she used to stand in front of a mirror and begins to fantasize on how beautiful she wishes to be, and strives throughout her life to become the beautiful woman she always dreamed of. She added that she calls on all women to be confident of the way she looks and flaunt her beauty by being as possible.

On a different note, Elissa has conquered the number one spot in the summer album competition in Egypt, which is considered the worst summer the music world has witnessed due to the different circumstances that hit the region like the disastrous Israeli raids on Lebanon.

The summer had begun with the launch of Elissa’s album “Bastanak” (I’m Waiting for you) and which sales reached as high as 350 thousand albums, indicating a decrease in the number of album sales for the singer compared to last year by 100 thousands.

Elissa has completed filming her latest music video for the song “Lao Ta’rafooh” (If You Knew Him), directed by Salim Turk.

Elissa’s business manager, Shaima Abrahim, revealed that Elissa completed filming the clip before the recent Israeli-Lebanese war, but waited to release it till an appropriate time.

She released the clip now that Lebanese morale has been lifted once again and life in her country is somewhat back to normal, said Elissa.

Elissa has refused an offer to star in a new Egyptian film written by composer Baha El Din Mohammad and starring Ahmad Al Sakka. The singer said her overbooked schedule leaves her no time for an acting career.

Shocking But True - Mirna Al Muhandis Denise Stealing Anghams Husband!

Mirna Al Muhandis denies stealing Angham’s husband

Posted: 09-11-2006 , 06:09 GMT

The most recent rumor regarding Egyptian singer Angham’s divorce has caused a commotion. The rumor stated that sources verified that Angham got a divorce from her husband music distributor Fahed. mirna

It was added that close friends of Angham revealed that the divorce occurred as a result of endless problems between the couple that have been going on for months and caused the relationship to reach a dead-end.

Some tabloids stated that one of the main reasons behind the breakup is a love affair between Fahed and young Egyptian actress Mirna Al Muhandis, and that the two had gone on a romantic getaway to Sharm El Sheikh and Beirut.

Fahed denied that he and his wife had gotten a divorce and simply hinted that they are separated.

The singer made no comment regarding the news of her divorce and may make a statement when she and her husband make up.

On her part, Mirna denied the existence of any love relationship between her and Fahed and stated that they are mere friends who went to school together. Mirna added that she is not the type of girl who has love affairs with married men and she defies anyone who can come up with solid proof that she and Fahed went to Sharm El Sheikh or Beirut together.

Since the couple first got married two years ago, rumors began surfacing that she and her husband are facing marital problems. It was added that due the problems the two cut their honeymoon short and returned to Egypt.

The couple at the time claimed that they only planned on a two week honeymoon, due to the fact that both have overwhelming work obligations. Angham had to begin choosing the songs for her album, and Fahed was overloaded with songs to compose for different singers.

Angham has one son with Fahed and already has a son from a previous marriage.

Shocking But True - Federline Trying to Peddle Britney's Honeymoon Sex Tapes for $65 Million!

Federline trying to peddle Britney's honeymoon sex tapes?

Just when one thinks Britney Spears' freshly-dumped hubby Kevin Federline can't stoop any lower, he scrambles to prove otherwise. After the 25-year-old singer dropped the D bomb on the wanna-be rapper on last Tuesday and cut him access to her fortunes, the 28-year-old is allegedly trying to peddle a sex tape the couple made during their honeymoon.Just when one thinks Britney Spears' freshly-dumped hubby Kevin Federline can't stoop any lower, he scrambles to prove otherwise. After the 25-year-old singer dropped the D bomb on the wanna-be rapper on last Tuesday and cut him access to her fortunes, the 28-year-old is allegedly trying to peddle a sex tape the couple made during their honeymoon.

The four-hour tape belongs to Federline, who has already found a buyer ready to shell out as much as US$65 million for the tape, rumor mills are alleging. “Britney didn't think twice about making the video at the time. She mistakenly believed that their love would last. They adored filming each other. They lived their lives in front of the cameras – even making a short-lived reality TV show of their exploits. Sex was no different to them, it seems. Now this video could prove very costly to her,” a Federline insider was quoted as saying.

The interested buyer is believed to be an Arizona company involved in porn downloads. “At the moment Kev is in talks with a company in Arizona about putting the four-hour sex vid online,” the source added.

Some assert that Federline, a former backup dancer, is trying to use the threat of releasing the tapes to the public to gain custody of the couple's two sons – 14-month-old Sean Preston and newborn Jayden James. Of course, some added settlement wouldn't hurt. Under the 'iron clad' prenup, Federline will get 'US$5 million and half the sale of their US$17 million home in Santa Barbara'.

However, he will have to surrender the US$194,000 Ferrari he allegedly uses to impress the chicks behind his wife's back and any other gift worth above US$14,000 given to him by Spears. Rumors claim that Federline wants US$39 million and the custody of the children to withhold the sale of the tapes although this sounds a bit like blackmail rather than a divorce settlement putting the children first and in fact nobody knows as yet if this is true or not, these are just rumors.

“Kevin has told Britney she should comply with his demands otherwise the whole world will see her having sex, which will be devastating,” the source said. Federline's shenanigans aren't surprising, given that he will be in dire need of money after Spears pulls the checkbook off his hands. The flashy party animal stands to lose the high-flying lifestyle he enjoyed for the last two years. And no help will come from his so-called rapping career, which seems to have finished before it began when a dismal 6,000 copies of his debut album Playing With Fire managed to find buyers.

Though earlier reports said that Federline's trip to Las Vegas proved to be the last straw that broke the couple's marriage, fresh rumors claim that Spears was stood up for a dinner date after which she went to Federline's hotel room and managed to gain entry to it only to find her husband with another woman. “She raced up to his room and found another girl there. Just the fact she was in there was enough to confirm months of suspicions, rumors and accusations about him playing away. Britney had seen all she had to and decided their marriage was over on the spot,” a source close to the singer said.

Meanwhile, one can't help but draw parallels between Spears and legendary pop star Whitney Houston, who recently dumped her troublemaker husband Bobby Brown after being married to him for 14 years. Both women were successful, chose losers as husbands and experienced massive dip in their popularity post-marriage.

They became the paparazzi targets, being slammed time and again for their antics. Later, however, they dumped their husbands, reinvented themselves and planned new albums to rediscover their magical music careers. While Bobby Brown has stayed mum on his split, Federline is trying all avenues to get back at his wife for dumping him through an SMS message.

Curiously, Federline, who has sired two children with former girlfriend Shar Jackson, doesn't seem as keen on playing daddy to those children as he is on Sean Preston and Jayden James. Of course, the first two kids don't come with a rich celebrity mommy.
