We took the 4-hour trail. It was my second time there but it was quite different from the first experience; we were taken in a pick-up truck to the starting point which lies outside the gorge, sideway through the rocky mountains. That was a fun experience in itself, bouncing right and left in the back of a pick-up and grabbing on to anything that would keep you from falling. We then walked for about half an hour under the sun up a dry trail that leads into the gorge. It's very similar to the siq in Petra, with the breathtaking colors of the rocks and the incredible way the mountain seems to be split. Last year the water levels were much higher, and you had to swim through strong currents in more that one part, but this year, after the April floods, it changed significantly, and most of the time the water is barely up to your knees.
The best part of all was abseiling down the 20-meter waterfall, with the water pouring mercilessly over your head. It's just fascinating when you reach down, find yourself surrounded by the deafening sound of the water and see a rainbow right in the middle.
Before I leave you with more pictures, I just want to let you know that mujib is only one of more than half a dozen wadi's where you can enjoy great canyoning experiences. I haven't experienced the others yet, but you can read about them in Ruth's Jordan. Also, the reserves of the RSCN offer wonderful diverse trails. If you prefer green over the southern desert hues, then you would love Ajloun where there's a great forest trail. Dana is also quite extraordinary. There's just so much to choose from for all you outdoor lovers, so yalla, start planning your summer weekends, get out of the city, and experience the rich diversity of Jordan and the adventures it offers you.
