According to the magazine, Chelsea's beau wanted her to visit his dad at the Federal Prison Camp in Montgomery, Alabama, but Hillary was having none of it.
A "source" told National Ledger that "with Hillary's
political ambitions and them only just getting over the Monica
Lewinsky scandal, they can't afford to be associated with a con man
doing time—and they insisted Chelsea has to understand that."
The million dollar question is with US Senator Hillary Rodham
Clinton gearing up for her 2008 presidential run, will she be able
to keep daughter Chelsea under wraps and in control?
May be not. Some say her dash to Rajasthan with Mark, boyfriend, was
a killing-two-birds-with-one-stone "political" strategy. She wanted
to get away from mom Hillary and at the same time look good in front
of Mark and neutralize him for having said NO to meeting his con
Dad in prison. And of course, have fun too. Now isn't that killing more than two birds? So
much for being an offspring of a political parents.
Chelsea and beau were spotted in Rajasthan, India, and
reportedly it turned out to be a cat and mouse game between Chelsea
and the local media.
Chelsea, who arrived in Rajasthan four days ago on a week-long
private visit, avoided media glare to such an extent that not a
single picture of hers and her boyfriend Mark have appeared in local
newspapers despite the fact that they deployed an army of
photographers and reporters in the pursuit.
Preferring to remain incognito, Chelsea arrived in the Lake City of
Udaipur, in Rajasthan, where she spent four days at luxury Udaivilas
hotel of the Oberois.
During her Udaipur visit, Chelsea did boating, shopping and little
sightseeing. The former US president’s daughter also tried some
local delicacies and spent some time in hotel gymnasium and bar.
In the hotel she was served traditional Mewari cuisine, which
included makkai ki roti, bread made of maize flour.
Since it was a private visit, most of the arrangements were
undertaken by the US embassy and involvement of the Rajasthan
government was almost minimal. Although the state government
officials passed on nuggets of information about Chelsea’s
movements, the media was kept out, reported Khaleej Times.
On Monday, the capital city of Jaipur was abuzz with the arrival of
Chelsea but the local media could not have a glimpse of her despite
reports that she was out for some shopping.
When
Chelsea arrived in Jaipur by a domestic airlines, people
at the airport recognized her - she straightaway drove to her hotel.
On Wednesday night, the Press waited for hours outside a jewelry
shop in Jaipur as she was supposed to do shopping there. But the
media personnel had to return empty-handed as Chelsea changed her
plans at the eleventh hour. The shop owner confirmed that they were
informed about her visit but later told that she had done shopping
at the hotel arcade and drove away to the famous tiger reserve
Ranthambore National Park.
This was Chelsea’s second visit to Rajasthan. Last time she was there
with her parents in 2000 and had visited many villages. She even
played Holi with the villagers. At that time, the Clintons were able to see a
tiger, which the then US president had named Boomerang. He derived
this name after being told the name of the tiger in Hindi was Bamboram.

JAN 13 - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Hollywood's couple du jour,
choppered into Haiti Friday to join hip-hop star Wyclef Jean's Clean
Streets project for the impoverished Caribbean nation. Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, recently toured quake-devastated areas in northern Pakistan with Pitt. She met with President Gen. Pervez Musharraf and toured a town largely destroyed by the Oct. 8 earthquake that killed an estimated 87,000 people and made 3.5 million homeless. Dressed in
black and sporting huge sunglasses, the two stars -- Jolie now carrying
Pitt's baby -- dropped in to support the US government-funded city
cleanup project from neighboring Dominican Republic, where Jolie is
making a new movie "The Good Shepherd" directed by Robert De Niro.
Clean Streets aims at removing garbage from the Port-au-Prince area, creating jobs and generating a more stable environment in the process, according to a project statement. The program is driven by Haitian-born Jean's Yele Haiti movement with support from the Pan American Development Foundation, as well as the anti-poverty organization CARE. "Haiti needs creative alternatives to confront its overwhelming challenges of poverty, ill health, and poor sanitation," said PADF director John Currelly in a statement. "The Clean Streets program has opened new avenues for development in Haiti." Clean Streets employs about 1,400 people who, together with 30 trucks, move through the capital's streets each day picking up refuse, even pushing through the closed slums controlled by armed gangs. The workers wear shirts proclaiming, in the local Creole language, "Respect yourself, clean your country". The program also taps into Jean's music, with his pro-cleanup jingle playing on local radio and his tape on buses. The program also backs a hip-hop music competition for slum kids, built around the Clean Streets theme. United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Jolie, together with songstress Norah Jones, is on the foundation of Jean's Yele Haiti foundation, which has also rebuilt schools and helped feed poor families in the country. |
