After CCNA What Is The Best CCNA Security Or The CCNP?

I have just got CCNA, now I m ready 2 move on to the next level, the professional certifications. I have interset in security.

but now there's the CCNA concentrations ( CCNA voice, CCNA wirless, CCNA security ) and there's the CCNP, the profssional level.

i'm little confused, what the best I can do for my networking career.

would it be better to get CCNA security to get CCSP or just go staight through CCNP??

How are you doing. As you know that CCNA is a associate/beginner level program and it only gives you the taste of the upcoming fields and foundations of the cisco network. Yes the CCNA has been concentrated with new add-ons. I think if you have some knowledge about the security while studyin CCNA then you should directly move to the CCSP. But , I suggest you to atleast hold a full grip on security by doing CCNA security. You have 2 ways here , the direct way and the alternate. Direct way is better but it gives you some problems about the advancement made in the security professional , but if you go through the alternate way there who problems will no longer come into your way coz you will be already aware of the things.

It's probably worth noting the prerequisites for the certifications too. If you were planning on going down the CCSP route the prerequisites for this exam are either CCNA Security OR CCNA + SND exam (SND exam retires 17th November 2008).

I personally chose to go the CCNA Security route.. In fact I plan to complete all four of the Associate level certifications prior to beginning the Professional level certs. The reason is that the Associate level certs renew one another and are prerequsites for the professional level certifications. My plan of action is this:

CCNA Security (renews CCNA R&S)
CCNA Wireless (renews both)
CCNA Voice (renews all three)
CCNP (Any test renews all prior)
CCSP (ditto.. plus CCNA Security was a prerequisite)
CCVP (" ")
ETC…

If you just want CCSP then…

CCNA, CCNA Security, CCSP

If you want both CCSP and CCNP then…

CCNA, CCNA Security, CCSP, CCNP or vice versa… You will touch the material from associate level exams again anyway! Hope this helps!!!

As part of my study for CCNA Security I have been making a list of all the commands I need to be adept with. I thought I would share this list of commands with others who may be interested.

For simplicty the list doesn’t offer explanations and in most cases there are a variety of options that could be used with each command that are not shown. It is also not suitable for copy/paste into a router or switch. However, I think it is still a useful quick reference sheet.

You are running both RADIUS as well as TACACS+ servers in your example configuration. I was wondering what RAD/TACS you were running on those two servers? FreeRadius? And what Tac Plus? Just trying to determine what software you are using for your lab studies! Thanks!

The previous example isn’t my config but rather just a list of commands to be familiar with and so I’m not actually running TACACS+ and RADIUS on the separate server addresses that I have shown.

I do my lab work using GNS3 with the C3745-ADVENTERPRISEK9_SNA-M IOS and currently I’m using the 90-day trial version of Cisco ACS 4.2 running on a Win2k3 VMWare box.

Just for interest I’ve attached a text file showing a basic config I’ve used for testing TACACS+. I have enabled debugs on aaa authentication and IP packets between the router and the ACS server and then attempted to logon to the router via SSH.

Which Router Should I Buy For CCNA?

So you want to get your CCNA and you need to buy a router for your CCNA home lab? Now the question is which router should you get? I have been in your shoes and know when you are just starting out, it is tough to make sense of all the different models of Cisco Routers available. The good news is there are a lot of good options available to get a good CCNA router for a fair price.

I recommend getting a Cisco 2611 Router or a Cisco 2621 Router because they have to two Copper ports instead of one and offer the most training flexibility. If the cost isn’t much different, go for the 2621 because it offers 2 10/100 Ethernet ports and has 128MB of memory versus the 2611 that has 2 10Mb ports with 64MB of memory. Don’t forget to buy 2 routers as most of the CCNA Labs require two routers. You could also get 3 routers, but from my experience, you will rarely actually need 3 routers to practice for your CCNA.

Another issue that comes into play is the IOS. If you can get a router with 12.4 already installed, you are way ahead of the game. Remember, the only legal way you can get a copy of the IOS is to buy a Cisco Smartnet contract for your router. If worse comes to worse, look for 12.3, but do your best to avoid 12.2. While it is a solid IOS for production, the new CCNA really focuses on the newer 12.4 version and some commands may be different from what you are learning.

This recommendation is for building a CCNA Home Lab. If you plan on building a CCNP Home Lab, then you should check back later for a post about which router you should buy for CCNP. The great part is even though the routers for CCNP are more expensive, if you buy them while working on your CCNA, you can use them for both certifications.

Also, if you have the money, you may be better off buying a complete CCNA Home Lab. You can usually find a complete CCNA Lab Kit including 2 or more routers and 1 or more Cisco Switches. Just keep in mind what I said about the routers.

EBay, the internet auction site, has won a significant battle in the war over the sale of luxury goods on its site.

It also emerged that Maclaren and Bugaboo, which together supply over a third of the pushchairs sold in the UK, are trying to stop new pushchairs being sold through eBay.
