About laminate flooring, ceramic tile and water

Laminate flooring is often installed neighboring to ceramic tile. But the water spilled on the ceramic tile often overflows the tile, wets and warps the laminate flooring.
Here is some way to solve the problem: 1. The root of laminate flooring should be higher than the surface of ceramic tile. 2. The whole surface of ceramic tile should be leaned to a lower hole which is far from the laminate. And the spilled water can be shed from the hole quickly. 3. The transition accessories between laminate and ceramic tile should be of copper or some other material which is waterproof. Use glue to seam the gap to ensure that it is seamless to resist water. Wax can be used to enhance the waterproof performance.

Instead he prefer a part of the laminate flooring(L) to be broken to do the work. And he wonders what work should be done for laminate flooring(L). Instead the work can be done in the following ways: 1. Draw the shape of stairs base. Expand the shape with 8mm at each edge for expansion purpose of L. 2. Locate the space of L to broken and draw the shape of cut space on the floor. 3. Use the electric saw which work thickness can be controlled precisely. Set the work thickness a little less than that of the L. For example, set the work thickness as 8.0mm if the thickness of the L is 8.3mm. There are several reasons for the work way: 1）The blade of the electric saw will damage the subfloor or the blade will be damage by the subfloor if the blade works on the subfloor. 2) It is finish the work on the cut planks if the planks have been cut in this way. 4. Get rid of the planks with a knife if it still hasn’t been cut off. 5. Cover the laminate flooring in the work area for the stairs with pad to avoid the damage during the building of stairs. 6. Cover the transition area between the L and the built stairs with wallboard or quarter round to offer a beautiful look.

Laminate flooring on a lean surface?

Someone plans to install some floor covering material on a lean subfloor. And he wonders if laminate flooring is a good selection and how to do the installation work.
Laminate flooring(L) is of a “floating” type. Unlike hardwood flooring, there is no nail used to fix L during the installation. In fact, the whole area of L is like a big tile put on the subfloor free. The laminate flooring can be installed with the follow way:
1. The installation area should be less than exceed 4*6m.
2. Make the lean surface straight and dry.
3. The lean must be less than 30 degree if the height installation area is over 2 lengths of the planks.
4. Set up a straight row of firm holder such as cement to support the laminate flooring at the bottom of the lean space. Use copper accessory to cover the transition space between laminate flooring and the holder..
5. Make the long side of the planks be upward if the height of installation area over 2 widths of the planks.

The surface is with various wooden textures such as walnut, beech, cherry, oak, teak, etc. Its size is 500*500 or 600*600mm. Its edges are usually packed with black plastic strips. Some people doubt if it is that laminate floor(L) installed on raised floor. Actually it is PVC cover that is fit on the panel of raised floor. It is not necessary to pack the edge of L with black plastic strips. The PVC can be of various designs including wooden textures. It offers a beautiful look for raised floor. It is not as strong resistant as the surface of L. And its foot feel is not as good as L because it is much harder than the surface of L.

Sometime, there is often some sound from laminate flooring. There are several possible reasons for the sound: 1. The subfloor is uneven. The edges of planks rub each other makes some sound when people step on it. 2. The locking system is too loose. The tongue and groove move and rub each other when there is pressure on them. 3. The planks with low grade are used for some hard place. For example, Laminate flooring with AC2 grade is used for heavy commercial place. The planks can’t work well at the place. And then there will be sound.4. The environment is very damp. The support material is damped. And each plank gets larger. Inevitably there will be sound as the planks “float”. Sound that appears due to this reason is very little. Sound absord pad can reduce most of the sound.
