Exit polls show tight race in Ukraine

Pro-Moscow candidate Viktor Yanukovich declares victory, based on three polls, but Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko refuses to concede, saying it's far too early and all votes must be counted. Reporting from Kiev, Air Yeezy Shoes Ukraine - Viktor Yanukovich, the former mechanic who just six years ago was shunned as a pro-Moscow stooge, declared victory in Ukraine's presidential election on Sunday after early exit polls showed him leading by a slim margin. Three exit polls showed Yanukovich leading by 4 to 5 percentage points in a runoff election that threatens to deepen political instability in the contentious former Soviet state. His opponent, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, refused to concede, and the numbers were being bitterly argued into the early hours Monday. If the final count bears out his win, Yanukovich will have pulled off the most startling comeback in recent Ukrainian politics. It was popular rage over his fraud-tainted presidential election in 2004 that drove Ukrainians into the street en masse to foment the pro-Western Orange Revolution. That uprising forced Yanukovich to surrender the presidency and drove him to the margins of the nation's political life. But with Ukrainians badly battered by an economic crisis and deeply embittered over the corruption and Air Yeezy New style political sniping that consumed the capital under the leadership of the self-declared reformers, Yanukovich surged back to popularity with strong support in Ukraine's industrialized, Russian-speaking east and south. "I'd like to thank God for helping us turn a new page in the history of our country," Yanukovich said late Sunday. He spoke in Russian, slipping out of the Ukrainian he had adopted during many of his political speeches during the campaign. Earlier in the evening, Tymoshenko gave a brief, defiant appearance. Standing before cameras with her trademark golden braid wound around her head, she insisted it was too early for anybody to claim victory. The exit polls were mere "sociology," she said, and the estimated gap was within the margin of error. Ukrainian political observers have fresh memories of last month's first round, when respected exit polls miscalculated the two top candidates' vote counts by 4 and 2 percentage points. "It is my conviction that people who voted for a European, strong, democratic Ukraine are many more than those who don't see Ukraine like that," she said. "If anybody starts announcing or Air Jordan Shoes celebrating somebody's victory, it will be a manipulation of people's minds." In the days before the election, Tymoshenko accused her rival of plotting to carry out massive vote fraud, and threatened to call her followers to street protests if there was evidence of rigging. But in her earliest reaction on Sunday, she seemed more preoccupied with inspiring her followers to Michael Jordan Shoes monitor the count than in accusing Yanukovich of fraud. "Fight for every vote, because one vote can mean the fate of Ukraine," she said. "Don't relax for one minute." Wholesale Fishing tackle Air Jordan 1 Air Jordan 2 Air Jordan 3 Air Jordan 4

H1N1 replaces seasonal flu

Whatever happened to H1N1 flu? “Overall, within the schools, the community, hospitals – things have been extremely quiet for the whole month of January,” said Ashley Conley, epidemiologist for the city of Nashua. This isn’t the case just in Nashua. The disease has faded around the state, while Air Jordan Shoes nationally, the Centers for Disease Control said doctor visits, hospitalizations and deaths related to “influenza-like illness” have tapered off to normal levels. Even globally, the United Nations has lowered its concern about the effects of the pandemic. It isn’t that H1N1 has disappeared, however: The CDC estimates the disease has caused the hospitalization of roughly 100,000 people in this country. Instead, what has happened is H1N1 is this year’s variant of the flu, no more dangerous or contagious than past strains have been. “When we got started … one of the big unknowns was, ‘Is this going to be an add-on or a replacement season?’ It seems to have been a replacement,” said Dr. Jose Montero, the state epidemiologist. “H1N1 was the seasonal flu for this year.” Much of last year’s Michael Jordan Shoes frantic preparation was prodded by fear of a nightmare scenario of a flu double whammy. H1N1 cropped up last March in Mexico with reports it had a high fatality rate and was unusually deadly for infants and children. As it spread into the U.S., it remained active during the summer, when flu usually subsides – leading to fears it would explode when cold weather arrived along with traditional seasonal flu, swamping the health care system. The result, as everybody remembers, was a flood of cautionary news stories and announcements about coughing into your elbow and staying home when you’re sick to avoid spreading disease, plus a rush to develop H1N1-specific vaccines and update plans for clinics, quarantines or other measures. As cases of H1N1 began to spread in September and October – two months before the usual start of the winter flu season – the worst seemed likely. But a seasonal strain of flu never showed up, and H1N1 cases leveled off as winter hit. There was concern a third wave of H1N1 would arrive this month as students returned to class after Christmas break, but that hasn’t happened, either. “Absenteeism is at normal levels in schools,” Conley said. It’s too early to declare that the problem has passed, but we seemed to have dodged the H1N1 bullet. This good news raises an important question: Were we lucky or were we skillful? In other words, was Wholesale Fishing tackle H1N1 less of a threat than it first appeared, or did all our preparation turn a potential disaster into a mild problem? “We can’t know for certain, but I think we did the appropriate response for the level of threat – as things changed, we modified our response,” Montero said. Calif. gay marriage foe cites children's interests

"The optimal environment for children is if they're raised from birth by their own natural mother, who is married to their own natural father," author David Blankenhorn, president of the Institute for brand clothing American Values, said on the witness stand, citing the "weight of evidence" by scholars on the subject. Blankenhorn was the second witness called by opponents of same-sex matrimony before a federal court weighing the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8, a state ballot initiative that outlawed gay marriage in 2008. His assertions contrasted sharply with those of a British child psychologist who testified earlier in the proceedings that the children of same-sex parents develop just as well as those brought up by heterosexual couples. According to Blankenhorn, children are the principal beneficiaries of the traditional construct of marriage -- a union between a man and a woman. "We think of it as a gift to children. We say, 'You as a child are being given this gift of being able to know and be known by the two people who brought you into the world,'" he testified. 'REGULATE AFFILIATION' The landmark trial, which began two weeks ago, opened with gay rights advocates presenting their case against Prop 8, including testimony that same-sex couples can be good parents, that their health and wealth stands to improve when married -- benefiting the public at Wholesale Brand clothing large -- and that gay men and lesbians have historically been persecuted. The United States is sharply divided on same-sex marriage, which has been legally recognized in five states and the District of Columbia. Two gay men and two lesbians have asked the federal court to rule that the right to marry has no exceptions under the U.S. Constitution. The legal battle is widely expected to reach the U.S. Supreme Court in a bid to overturn statutory prohibitions on same-sex marriage in 40 states. A key question in the case is whether government, and U.S. voters, have a reasonable justification for denying same-sex marriage, such as promoting healthier families, or if the bans instead reflect discrimination and hatred. After quibbling by both sides over whether Blankenhorn was an expert witness, chief District Judge Vaughn Walker allowed him to testify. "What is marriage?" the attorney for Prop 8 supporters, Charles Cooper, asked the witness. "Marriage is a socially approved sexual relationship between a man and a woman," Blankenhorn told the Wholesale Sports Jerseys court. "Marriage does a number of things, but the most important thing it does is regulate affiliation. It establishes who are the child's legal and social parents. "We reproduce sexually," he added. "That's how we reproduce and the marriage is the social institution that rests upon those very primary biological facts." The first witness for Prop 8 backers, who returned to the stand earlier on Tuesday, was Kenneth Miller, an associate professor of government at Claremont McKenna College, who testified that gays and lesbians have ample political clout in California and across the country. Israel stops granting permits to NGO aid workers in W. Bank

The Interior Ministry has stopped granting work permits to foreign nationals working in most international nongovernmental organizations operating in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, ED Hardy Belts Haaretz has learned. In an apparent overhaul of regulations that have been in place since 1967, the ministry is now granting the NGO employees tourist visas only, which bar them from working. Organizations affected by the apparent policy change include Oxfam, Save the Children, Doctors Without Borders, Terre des Hommes, Handicap International and the Religious Society of Friends (a Quaker organization). Until recently, the workers would register with the international relations department at the Social Affairs Ministry, which would recommend the Interior Ministry to issue them B1 work permits. Although the foreign nationals are still required to approach the Social Affairs Ministry to receive recommendations to obtain a tourist visa, the Interior Ministry is aiming to make the Ministry of Defense responsible for those international NGOs and also requiring them to register with the coordinator of government activities in the territories (COGAT), which is subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. Foreign nationals working for ED Hardy T shirt NGOs had understood they would receive a stamp or handwritten note alongside their tourist visa, permitting them to work "in the Palestinian Authority." Israel is refusing work visas to most foreign nationals who state that they wish to work within the Palestinian territories, such as foreign lecturers for Palestinian universities and businessmen. Israel does not recognize Palestinian Authority rule in East Jerusalem or in Area C, which comprises some 60 percent of the West Bank. The NGO workers say they've come to believe that the new policy is intended to force them to close their Jerusalem offices and relocate to West Bank cities. This move would prevent them from working among the Palestinian population of East Jerusalem, defined by the international community as occupied territory. The organizations fear the new policy will impede their ability to work in Area C, whether because Israel doesn't see it as part of the Palestinian Authority or because they will eventually be subjected to the restrictions of movement imposed on the Palestinians. Such restrictions include the prohibition to enter East Jerusalem and Gaza via Israel, except with specific and rarely ED Hardy swimsuit obtained permits; and prohibition to enter areas west of the separation fence, except for village residents who hold special residency permits and Israeli citizens. One NGO worker told Haaretz that the policy was reminiscent of the travel constraints imposed by Burmese authorities on humanitarian organizations, albeit presented in a subtler manner. NGO workers told Haaretz that they had been informed by the COGAT official that a policy change was forthcoming, as early as July 2009. When a number of them approached the Interior Ministry in August to renew their visas, they found that their applications had been submitted to a "special committee." They were not told who constituted this committee, and had to make do with a "receipt" confirming that they had submitted the request. The workers said the tourist visas they received differed from ED Hardy pants each other in duration and travel limitations, and surmised from this that the policy has not been entirely fleshed out. Apple turns up heat in Nokia battle

The two phone giants are in the midst of a major legal battle, which started last October when Nokia charged Apple for using its patented technologies without paying for them. Apple filed the Jordan 23 new ITC complaint on Friday. "Nokia will study the complaint when it is received and continue to defend itself vigorously," said a company spokesman. "However, this does not alter the fact that Apple has failed to agree appropriate terms for using Nokia technology and has been seeking a free ride on Nokia's innovation since it shipped the first iPhone in 2007," he said. In late December Nokia also filed a claim with the ITC, alleging Apple infringed seven of its patents in "virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers" sold. "The fact that two such prominent companies have now filed complaints will likely mean the ITC will seek to deal with this as a matter of urgency," said Ben Wood, head of research at British consultancy CCS Insight. "That said, a lengthy legal battle is almost inevitable irrespective of a decision from the trade commission," he said. The ITC can ban selling Jordan 1.5 products in the United States -- a market crucial for Apple, but Nokia makes only a fraction of its sales there. Analysts say it could take years to solve the legal battle. "This dispute is still in its infancy. I don't think Nokia is finished with evaluating the infringements by Apple, it might be just the surface," said Steven Nathasingh, chief executive of U.S. research firm Vaxa Inc. Nokia, along with Ericsson and Qualcomm, holds many key patents for making mobile phones. Nokia has stumbled badly in the fast-growing smartphone sector and relative newcomer Apple has gained ground against the market leader thanks to the iPhone, but still trails Nokia in smartphones sales. The legal dispute, potentially involving hundreds of millions of dollars in annual royalties, reflects the shifting balance of power in the mobile industry as cellphones morph into handheld computers that can Jordan 2.5 play video games and surf the Web. Apple, which entered the industry in mid-2007, overtook Nokia in the September quarter as the cellphone maker generating the highest total operating profit. Analysis: Barak welcomed in Ankara as an Israeli the Turks can work with

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon's dressing down of the Turkish ambassador in Jerusalem last week was in the air but not directly referred to during Defense Minister Ehud Barak's time in Ankara on Sunday. Instead, the 12-hour visit was characterized by pleasantries and long conversations, in a clear attempt by both countries to Wholesale Air Jordan Sneaker broadcast that the past was behind them. The Turks view Barak as someone they can work with and believe that he can have the impact on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that they are hoping for. The Turkish media highlighted this point by making a distinction between Barak, whom they described as the leader of the left-wing Labor Party, and Ayalon, who, some papers wrote, was a member of the "far-right" Israel Beiteinu Party. The last time Barak visited Ankara was in February 2008, the same day that Hizbullah military commander Imad Mughniyeh was assassinated in Damascus, an operation attributed by some to the Mossad. The killing came half a year after Israel bombed a nuclear reactor in northwest Syria. Then, Israeli-Syrian relations were at an all-time low. Soon after, though, Jerusalem and Damascus launched indirect Fishing tackle peace talks with Turkish mediation. Barak's visit at the time likely had something to do with that. On Sunday, Barak's hosts pressed him on the Syrian issue, identifying him correctly as the Israeli cabinet member most supportive of peace talks. Whether or not such negotiations will take place is not up to Barak, though. Netanyahu will have to decide. Barak was trailed throughout his visit by a crowd of Turkish press. At the airport, journalists and cameramen lined the runway with satellite hookups reporting his arrival live. At the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, he was again met by a pool of reporters. After the minister laid a wreath on the tomb of the republic's first president, and as he signed the visitors' book with a plea for a "safe Jordan 1 and secure region," one of Barak's senior advisers marveled at the size and grandeur of the monument while noting what a great leader Atatürk was. New Jersey legislature approves medical marijuana bill

(CNN) -- The New Jersey legislature voted Monday to make that state the 14th in the country to approve marijuana for medicinal use, pending the governor's signature. Gov. Jon Corzine, who leaves office next week, has said he would sign the bill. Two years after the bill was ED Hardy introduced to the legislature, the New Jersey Compassionate Medical Marijuana Act was passed by the state Assembly in a 48-14 vote. It received Senate approval just hours later in a 25-13 vote. According to the news release from the state Senate, the bill would allow doctors to give to patients with state-issued identification cards prescriptions to buy marijuana legally from registered alternative treatment centers. The identification cards would be issued by the Department of Health and Senior Services Only patients with proven "debilitating conditions" would qualify for ID card. Such conditions include "cancer, glaucoma, positive HIV/AIDS status or other chronic, debilitating diseases or medical conditions that produce, or the treatment of which produces, wasting syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, or severe and persistent muscle spasms," according to the Senate news release. "Out of the 14 states that have similar bills, New Jersey's will be the strictest," Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, one of the bill's sponsors, told CNN. "I believe that this bill will be model legislation for states here on out that will look to (be) legalizing marijuana. We looked at the Fishing tackle pitfalls of California and made a more restrictive bill." Sen. Nicolas Scutari, the bill's Senate co-sponsor, also attributed the bill's success to its restrictive measures, saying, "We put a whole lot of safeguards to make sure that what had happened in other states with respect to abuses ... would not happen here, and I think everyone was satisfied as a result, so it passed pretty easily." Gusciora pointed to the omission of stress and anxiety as one of the qualifying conditions for a prescription, to further emphasize the bills distinction from other states' bills, saying "I feel like every college student would qualify for stress and anxiety, and has qualified in California." Marijuana use would be restricted to private property under the measure. Patients with legal prescriptions could still be arrested for using marijuana in public, and they could still face driving under the influence charges if they used marijuana and got behind the wheel, according to Gusciora. The bill has been passed in time for Corzine to sign it before Gov.-elect Chris Christie takes over on January 19. According to Scutari, although Christie has shown a "willingness to sign" the bill, the timing of the bill's passage is ideal. "I didn't want to start from scratch," says Scutari, "I've been working on this for five years, and we wanted to ensure while we had control of the bill that we could get it passed in a form that was acceptable to all sides. According to Gusciora, the bill will still take six to nine months to take effect. Various safeguards such as Department of Health approval of dispensaries and tracking of patients by the Division of ED Hardy Jeans Consumer Affairs need to take place before doctors and patients can legally buy medical marijuana in New Jersey. For most of the New Jersey state lawmakers, however, this is huge victory. "My mother has multiple sclerosis and I could tell you that anything that could alleviate her symptoms, I would certainly want to be able to offer," said Scutari. UN praises US and SKorea for lifting HIV/AIDS travel ban, urges 57 countries to follow

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations praised the United States and South Korea on Monday for lifting travel bans on people with HIV and urged 57 other countries with travel restrictions to end them quickly. President Barack Obama announced in October that the U.S. would overturn a 22-year-old travel ban against people with HIV, and the Air Jordan Shoes new rule eliminating the ban came into force on Monday. South Korea eliminated travel restrictions for people with the HIV virus, which causes AIDS, on Jan. 1. Michel Sidibe, executive director of UNAIDS, which coordinates the U.N.'s AIDS response, called the policy changes "a victory for human rights on two sides of the globe." Ending the restrictions means travelers who are HIV positive can now enter both countries. In the United States, the ban has kept out thousands of students, tourists and refugees and has complicated the adoption of children with HIV. No major international AIDS conference has been held in the U.S. since 1993, because HIV-positive activists and researchers could not enter the country. In 1987, at a time of widespread fear and ignorance about HIV, the Department of Health and Human Services added HIV to the list of communicable diseases that disqualified a person from entering the U.S. The department tried in 1991 to reverse its decision but was opposed by Congress, which went the other way two years later an Michael Jordan Shoes made HIV infection the only medical condition explicitly listed under immigration law as grounds for inadmissibility to the U.S. When Obama announced in October that the ban would be overturned, he commended Congress and former President George W. Bush for starting the process to eliminate the ban in 2008 and said his administration was "finishing the job." "It's a step that will encourage people to get tested and get treatment, it's a step that will keep families together, and it's a step that will save lives," Obama said. "If we want to be the global leader in combating HIV/AIDS, we need to act like it." U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon congratulated Obama in October and applauded South Korea's President Lee Myung-bak on Monday "for his country's leadership in ending restrictions towards people living with HIV that have no public health benefit." "I repeat my call to all other countries with such discriminatory restrictions to take steps to remove them at the earliest," Ban said in a statement. Among the countries that still have restrictions on entry, residence and length of stay for HIV sufferers are China, Cuba, Egypt, North Korea, Israel, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, Iraq and Russia. Sidibe, the UNAIDS Fishing tackle chief, called for "global freedom of movement for people living with HIV in 2010, the year when countries have committed to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support." Discrimination against people with HIV "has no place in today's highly mobile world," he said in a air jordan shoes brand clothing Fishing Rod Fishing Hook Fishing line statement.

Patriots Deal Crushing Blow to Jets’ Slim Playoff Hopes

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The glimmer of playoff hope the Jets held on to disappeared Sunday, buried under an avalanche of interceptions and Air Jordan 7 ineptitude, freeing up January for another round of Jets vacations. That the New England Patriots sank the Jets’ realistic postseason chances from slim to none only added to the sting of another lopsided defeat. The Patriots battered the Jets early, withstood a brief comeback and ultimately triumphed, 31-14, in front of a packed Gillette Stadium where the celebration was long and loud. It was that kind of night. Patriots receiver Wes Welker set career highs in receptions (15) and receiving yards (192). Cornerback Leigh Bodden tied a franchise record with three interceptions for New England (7-3). The Jets Quarterback Mark Sanchez threw four interceptions. And safety Kerr Air Jordan 8 Rhodes was run over, bounced backward, twice. The Jets (4-6) wound up with their sixth loss in seven games. All week, the Jets touted their renewed intensity and claimed they understood that only a victory, on the road, against a major rival, would keep their slim playoff hopes alive. On Monday, Coach Rex Ryan delivered a teary speech. On Wednesday, in a players only meeting, running back Thomas Jones pleaded passionately with teammates. Safety Jim Leonhard even played against the Patriots after having surgery on his broken right thumb. Linebacker Bart Air Jordan 9 Scott acknowledged during the week that the Jets’ season was on “life support.” And on Sunday, it was the hated Patriots who pulled the plug, ending the Jets’ season, for all realistic purposes, with a victory stunning in the lopsided way that it unfolded. The Jets had a hand in their demise, the same as in most of their recent losses. In the first half alone, the Jets committed costly penalties on defense and special teams, dropped two passes, threw two interceptions and allowed 24 points. They were out-gained, 272 yards to 34 in the first half and 410 to 226 over all. All week, the Jets placed emphasis on Mark Sanchez, their rookie quarterback, making a faster start. Instead, Sanchez played one of the worst Air Jordan 10 possible halves of football. He completed as many passes to cornerback Leigh Bodden (two) as he did to his own receivers, finishing the half with 15 passing yards and a 0.0 quarterback rating. Bodden returned the first interception 53 yards up the right sideline for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. His second led to a 26-yard field from Stephen Gostkowski that ballooned the lead to 24-0. Bodden gained more yards returning interceptions (60) than the Jets’ offense in the first half. When the Jets battered quarterback Tom Brady and beat New England in Week 2, they did so with Welker absent from the lineup. Welker showcased his value in the first half against the Jets, catching eight passes for 139 yards. Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis again matched up against receiver Randy Moss, and although Moss did score a first-quarter touchdown, Revis slowed him for the most part. But it mattered little with Welker dominating the Jets’ overmatched secondary. The Jets managed to score near the end of the first half, thanks to their special teams. With the Patriots backed up near their end zone, Jets safety Eric Smith blocked a Chris Hanson punt. Brad Smith recovered the Air Jordan 11 ball and waltzed into the end zone. The Jets did not necessarily have life, but they did have points, trailing, 24-7, at the half. They also received the ball at the beginning of the third quarter, and suddenly their stagnant offense started moving. Sanchez completed three passes on that drive, one more than he had in the first half. The highlight came when Sanchez lofted a deep ball over cornerback Jonathan Wilhite that receiver Jerricho Cotchery caught in stride for a 29-yard touchdown. With plenty of time remaining, the Jets had cut their deficit to 24-14. The Indianapolis Colts shocked New England last week with a last-minute victory most notable for Coach Bill Belichick’s scrutinized decision to go for it late on fourth down. After the Colts’ win, history favored the Patriots in this one. Under Belichick, the Air Jordan 12 Patriots had last been swept by a division opponent in 2000, and they held a record of 20-1 since 2003 in games following a loss. They also entered this game undefeated at home this season, their margin of victory 92 points (137-45). The Patriots extended their lead with another Maroney touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. By then, Sanchez was pressing, throwing into double and triple coverage, forcing passes the way he did against the Buffalo Bills earlier this season, when he threw five interceptions. Sanchez completed 8 of 21 passes.

California faces a projected deficit of $21 billion

Reporting from Sacramento - Less than four months after California leaders stitched together a patchwork budget, a projected deficit of nearly $21 billion already looms over Sacramento, according to a report to be released today by the chief budget analyst. The new figure -- the nonpartisan analyst's first projection for the coming budget -- threatens to send Sacramento back Air Jordan 20 into budgetary gridlock and force more across-the-board cuts in state programs. The grim forecast, described by people who were briefed on the report by Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor, comes courtesy of California's recession-wracked economy, unrealistic budgeting assumptions, spending cuts tied up in the courts and disappearing federal stimulus funds. "Economic recovery will not take away the very severe budget problems for this year, next year and the year after," said Steve Levy, director of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy. In fact, after two years of precipitous revenue declines, the new report projects relatively stable tax collections for the state, said those who were briefed. But that won't stop the deficit from climbing to nearly $21 billion. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will present his next proposed budget to Californians in January as he begins his last year in office, started sounding the alarm last week. "I think that there will be across-the-board Air Jordan 19 cuts again," he said at a San Jose news conference. The task in 2010 could be even harder than it was this year, when record deficits and cash shortfalls drove California to issue IOUs for only the second time since the Great Depression. Lawmakers have already cut billions from education, healthcare and social services while temporarily hiking income, sales and vehicle taxes. "I can't think of any good solutions," said Assemblywoman Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa), who chairs the lower house budget committee. The current budget year accounts for $6.3 billion of the deficit, the nonpartisan analyst projects. Prisons spending will outstrip what has been budgeted by more than $1 billion, and K-12 schools were underpaid by $1 billion under the complex formula that governs education funding, the report says. Another $14.4 billion of the deficit is for the fiscal year that begins next summer, say those briefed on the report. The governor's Air Jordan 18 next budget will have to account for both years. The state Department of Finance in August predicted a shortfall of at least $7.4 billion for fiscal 2010-11. But California's financial picture has darkened considerably since then, largely because the shaky summer budget pact relied heavily on borrowing, fiscal tricks and overly optimistic projections. http://www.createfreeblogs.com/brandclothing/   http://www.srblogs.com/blog.php?user=brandclothing¬e=2916 http://www.xevaa.com/blog.php?user=brandclothing¬e=64431   http://blogs.albawaba.com/brandclothing http://www.seriousblogging.com/manager/index.php

Afghan corruption a political obstacle

The survey was carried out by Transparency International, an organisation that tracks corruption worldwide. Afghanistan did so badly that it fell from only fifth worst to second to bottom. This is not a new problem in a society once based on clan patronage. What is new is that it has become a political obstacle both for the Afghan government and for the countries whose soldiers are dying in its defence, most notably from the US and Britain. It has gathered pace Air Jordan 9 after the corruption uncovered in the presidential election. President Karzai has now set up his third anti-corruption unit. The first was disbanded when it was revealed that its head had been imprisoned on drugs charges in the US. Not everyone is impressed. "Words are cheap. Deeds are required," remarked the US ambassador Karl Eikenberry, who has recommended to President Obama that no further US troops be sent until corruption is confronted. Retired Maj Gen Arnold Fields, the US special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, concluded in his report last month: "The US government is particularly concerned that corruption puts at risk our investment in the reconstruction of Afghanistan." And the German Bertelsmann Foundation concluded in 2006: "The government is imbued by patronage and corruption." The Bertelsmann Foundation, one of the sources for the conclusions of Transparency International, said: "Corruption is endemic to all state functions (police, judiciary) and is seen as a usual form of business transaction; even ministers were involved in land grabs. Corruption is additionally interlinked with the opium business. Thus, bribery is Air Jordan 10 invested on a massive scale to undermine efforts against the drug economy." The New York Times reported earlier this year:"Everything seems to be for sale: public offices, access to government services, even a person's freedom." Contracts, as always in the field of corruption, are a source of actual or alleged wrongdoing. Integrity Watch Afghanistan, an independent Afghan research organisation, carried out a survey in 2007 that tried to identity the main elements of corruption. It said: "Corruption networks... have spread in the administration and now constitute a wide and interwoven web of heterogeneous groups that use their positions largely for private or small group gains and effectively block reform. "A 'bazaar-economy' has developed where every position, favour, and service can be bought and sold. One corrupt practice can be a cause and/or consequence of another corrupt practice, leading to a vicious cycle of self-perpetuation." At a local level, it listed petty bribery, position buying, nepotism, favouritism and clientelism, and the offering and asking for preferential treatment in areas including the law, land disputes and taxation. One scam it found was the old one of claiming more than was justified. "If 100 people were required for a planned workshop, the implementing partner at provincial, district or local level Air Jordan 11 might invite only 20 participants, but demand money for a workshop with 100 participants."

People: Janet Jackson blames doctor in brother's death

Janet Jackson says Dr. Conrad Murray is responsible for her brother's death. In an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts, Jackson said "He was the one that was administering ... I think he is responsible." Murray has admitted to administering Propofol to Michael Jackson, but claims he didn't kill Michael Jackson. In the interview, which airs Wednesday, Jackson also said Murray should no longer be allowed to practice medicine. Jackson said her brother is Ugg Sunburst Tall constantly on her mind. "It's been a tough year. You have your days where it's just really ... it's hard to believe. And a day doesn't go by that I don't think about him." In the interview Jackson described where she was June 25, the day Michael died. "I was at my house in New York. You know, another day. Another morning. And I get a call. (My assistant) said, 'Your brother's been taken to the hospital. It's on CNN right now.' I called everyone. There's a line busy, or someone wasn't picking up. I spoke to mother. I spoke to Tito. I spoke to my nephew Austin. I spoke to my sister La Toya. I told them to call me when they got to the hospital. And I remember thinking nobody's calling me back, so I tried calling again, and that's how I found out that he was no longer ... I couldn't believe it." Murray's lawyer, Christopher Aaron, filed documents arguing that Murray has been unable to pay because he had to close his medical practice and move to an undisclosed location due to threats following Jackson's death. The woman waived her right to the $13,000 Murray owes in back support, provided she gets $1,003 a month in support from now on. And that Murray doesn't prescribe her son anything (well, that's just a guess). CARRIE PREJEAN'S BRIGHT FUTURE: Vivid Entertainment is officially making an offer to former Miss California Carrie Prejean. TMZ.com says it has obtained a copy of a letter Vivid honcho Steven Hirsch sent to Prejean's lawyer, Charles Limandri. Hirsch is asking to acquire the rights to Ugg Whitely Boots distribute "erotic footage that Carrie Prejean, former Miss California, produced for her boyfriend following their four (4) day rendezvous in February 2007." It's the same video (eight in all, along with 30 photos) TMZ obtained but has not posted because it's just too racy. "We would like to present Carrie with several options where she could certainly earn millions of dollars," wrote Hirsch, whose roster of clients includes Kim Kardashian, Kelli McCarty (former Miss USA) and Shauna Sand. Really, who wouldn't want to be included with that bunch? TMZ spoke with Limandri, who said Prejean wouldn't bite "at any price." Carrie claims she was underage when the videos were shot, but her ex-boyfriend, to whom she sent the videos, says differently. ANOTHER ELTON AND BILLY POSTPONEMENT: Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Billy Joel and Elton John have postponed another Bay Area date on their "Face 2 Face" tour: a concert originally scheduled for today at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. They had already bailed on a Nov. 14 gig at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. Organizers are working to set makeup dates for the two concerts. All ticket-holders are asked to hold on to their tickets until more information is available regarding rescheduling. The Oakland date was postponed due to concerns over John's health. He's been battling a serious case of e-coli bacterial infection Ugg Ultimate Tall Braid and influenza and was advised by his doctor to postpone this Oakland concert. This time it's Joel who isn't feeling well enough to play San Jose, due to undisclosed "medical reasons," says promoter Live Nation.

Study links BPA in plastics to erectile dysfunction

Bisphenol-A, a chemical found in hard, clear plastic used to make everything from baby bottles to food packaging, may increase the risk of erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems in male factory workers exposed to large amounts of the substance, according to a study conducted in China. The health effects of BPA have UGG Boots been hotly debated; although some studies have linked BPA to a risk of brain damage, birth defects, hyperactivity, heart disease, early puberty, obesity, and prostate cancer, other research suggests that the low level of exposure from plastics doesn't pose a health risk to adults. (The picture is less clear for children.) Part of the problem is that much of the research has been conducted in mice and other animals, and its validity in humans is controversial. Although not conclusive, the potential health effects have caused some baby-bottle and water-bottle manufacturers to stop using the chemical, at least in part because of public concern. BPA is not found in soft, pliable plastic used in most water bottles. Now, the new study -- one of the first to be conducted in humans -- seems to support a finding previously reported only in animal research. Among the men who work with BPA, the risk of having difficulty ejaculating was seven times greater than it was among the non-exposed group, and the risk of erectile problems was more than four times greater. The BPA-exposed workers also reported higher rates Ugg Classic of low sex drive and lower overall satisfaction with their sex lives, according to the study, published this week in Human Reproduction and funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. Researchers compared the rates of sexual dysfunction in two groups of workers in China -- 230 men who worked at factories that produce BPA or epoxy resin (which contains the chemical), and some 400 men, including workers in other industries, who were not exposed to abnormally high levels of BPA. Epoxy resin is used in the lining of canned foods and is another potential source of BPA in addition to hard, clear plastic. The men who worked in the BPA and epoxy-resin factories were exposed to levels about 50 times higher than average. The greater a worker's exposure Ugg Cardy to BPA -- which was measured using spot air and urine samples -- the more likely he was to have sexual dysfunction. Yet the dysfunction was apparent even in workers who had worked in a BPA factory for one year or less. http://www.pimpsblogger.com/ADMIN/index.php http://brandclothing.desiblogz.com/ http://brandclothing.blogsarena.com/   http://www.iblogme.com/brandclothing/ http://tomgreen.com/blogs/brandclothing http://www.blogbus.com/user/?blogid=5284978&mm=Post
