Great New Themes
25 September, 2006
One of the great things about blogs in general is that you don't have to be technically savvy or an expert of web design, because there are ready templates for you to choose from. The drawback with most existing systems however is that you don't always find the template that reflects the image you want for your blog, and that they're not always inspired by elements you relate to from your own environment or culture.  We did say most systems, not all. Now, Al Bawaba Blogs offer you a great new collection of templates, with original, authentic, and unique designs that cater to different tastes and mindsets.  In your admin interface after login, just go to settings, and then click theme settings in order to browse and pick what you want.

Here's a glimpse of what awaits you…

How to attract readers to your blog
24 September, 2006
No Blogger is an island. The way to get people to read your blog is by making yourself active and visible on the blogosphere. By leaving meaningful comments on the blogs that interest you, people will start noticing you, and if they're interested enough by what you're saying in those comments, they'll follow the link to your blog. DO NOT SAY: "Nice blog! Visit mine, here's the link…" That's about the most lame thing you could possibly say. Never sound like you're desperate for readers, just be patient, and be smart. Look for bloggers who seem to share similar interests, because it is these readers that you want to draw. If you're blogging about technology, don't put all your effort commenting on political blogs! You should also look for communities and blog aggregators that you can join. Almost every Arab blogosphere has at least one aggregator, and these are usually great ways to bring traffic. The most important thing however is to actually have a good blog before submitting it. Don't say "I will write once I start getting traffic." Write for your two readers as if you were writing for two hundred. Put your best effort in your blog, and be patient.  It's like the saying in Kevin Costner's "Field of Dreams"… If you build it, they will come.

Why Blog
20 September, 2006

Are you constantly browsing the internet, and coming across some very interesting articles or material that you would like to tell everyone about?

Are you the type who likes to reflect on everyday life experiences by keeping a diary?

Do you make observations or find things every day that irritate you so much that you just want to rant and complain about it to anyone who would listen? The terrible bureaucracy of getting an official document done, the smelly taxi you got in, the constant interference of your relatives in your life… or the dead cockroach you found in that falafel sandwich this evening?? Do you have an opinion about anything and everything? But feel that your analytical and critical powers are unappreciated, or that any mainstream publication would censor and reject what you are trying to say?

Are you studying or working abroad and would like to keep your family and friends updated with your news without having to send separate emails every time? Perhaps you are traveling or starting out on a new experience that you would like to document and reflect upon…Are you an amateur photographer, poet, writer, or designer, and would like to start getting feedback on your work and building a name for yourself?Look no further… Blogging is your answer. Starting your own blog is the tool that enables you to do all of that, without the need for any sophisticated technical knowledge, or approval from anyone. It is democracy at its purest. The power of self-publishing is challenging the traditional media that we know, it is crossing boundaries, breaking stereotypes, and giving everyone the right to express themselves and share knowledge and ideas.
