Unscripted: Green Zone Theater and the Shoe Drama

The plot, so unexpectedly, thickened in Iraq on a Sunday like no other. The two main actors - US President George W. Bush, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki – took to the stage to perform another well-rehearsed press conference. The scripts were ever so predictable: Bush to tout the ‘progress’ achieved in Iraq, while al-Maliki to express gratitude for the freedom bestowed on his country. Both men were to caution from overstated optimism, and to forewarn of the great challenges that are yet to come. The two partners were to shake hands, smile and walk away. Things, however, didn’t go according to plan on Sunday, December 14.

A surprise appearance by till then little-known Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi provided a most unpredictable conclusion to the public performance regularly held in Baghdad’s Green Zone theater. Every joint press conference of US and Iraqi officials has, for years, concluded, more or less according to plan. Since the toppling of President Saddam Hussein’s statue in 2003, in a well orchestrated - Shakespearean even - series of events, until that fateful Sunday, few have dared to violate the carefully prepared, monotonous media appearances, which often end with a handshake, unconvincing smiles, and the mutter of disgruntled journalists for failing to land a last minute question.

But al-Zaidi changed all of that when he hurled his shoes at President Bush at the exact moment the two main actors were scheduled to exit the stage - compelling the US president to duck twice, astoundingly escaping the makeshift, but largely symbolic weapon. Truth be told, Bush’s timely dodges, were as impressive, as al-Zaidi’s seemingly impeccable pitches.

Much has been said of al-Zaidi’s daring act, which will indeed secure a permanent footnote in history books for an Iraqi man’s footwear. Stories are told of poems, computer games and artwork idealizing al-Zaidi’s shoes; and a rich Arab has reportedly offered millions of dollars for the pair of shoes that were meant as a “farewell kiss” to Bush. While most Americans are likely to remember Bush’s legacy as that of a man who has guided a nation into unprecedented economic mayhem, Iraqis, and others, will remember him as a brutal, self-righteous zealot, who invited untold bloodshed, humiliation and the destruction of a once a magnificent and leading civilization.

According to the US government’s logic, Iraq is now better off than ever before. As for the millions of lives that have been unjustly taken, and the millions of Iraqis on the run, their plight is a worthy price for freedom and democracy, precious US commodities that apparently come at a heavy price. Americans and the sanctioned Iraqi government are never to blame for any wrong doing. Iraq’s tragedy is always someone else’s fault, but largely the making of elusive terrorists, whose identities and sources of funds change according to whatever Washington’s political mood dictates. The insurgents, as they were called until recently, were initially remnants of and Ba’ath Party loyalists, disgruntled Sunnis, then they morphed into foreign fighters, then they were depicted as al-Qaeda sympathizers, copy-cats, then al-Qaeda itself, then Iranian agents in cahoots with rogue Shitte militants loyal to whatever character doesn’t suit the interests of the US and its allies. New characters were occasionally added to the Green Zone’s ever predictable play, unwanted characters were swiftly removed, and the play’s language was repeatedly rewritten.

Then al-Zaidi showed up and hurled his shoes at a grinning Bush, who just finished shaking al-Maliki’s hand and was ready to conclude his own ominous chapter in Iraq, one filled with lies, deceit, and the blood of many people, in fact too many to count.

As al-Zaidi was being overpowered, then dragged away by Iraqi security - who must’ve tried to impress their American security ‘counterparts’ by teaching the poor al-Zaidi a lesson in good manners, Abu Ghraib-style – the script writers, and stage directors and actors were likely to have been summoned to discuss what CNN described as a ‘security breach,’ but what should be more accurately described as a deviation from the script. Their orders were straightforward and seemingly simple: to create a parallel reality to the anti-occupation fervor and bloodbath outside, by staging a play of few actors that depicts the occupier as a friendly, obliging outsider, violence against the Iraqi people as a war on terror on behalf of the Iraqi people, governmental corruption as a fostering process of democracy and good governance, and so on. Naturally, the moment that al-Zaidi flung his shoes at cowering Bush, a new, although haphazard play was drafted, mixing the painful reality outside the Green Zone, with the comforting, imagined reality inside. If the al-Zaidi episode is to be credited in one thing, it should be for tossing up the terminology of the two stages. Bush was called “dog” by angry Iraqis for years, but not in a press conference. Iraqis mourned their dead, cried for their orphans and widows, millions of them, outside and Green Zone, but never inside. An Iraqi man, Muntadhar al-Zaidi, in a seemingly fleeting moment, changed everything.

What also confused the script is that al-Zaidi was not al-Qaeda, or an al-Qaeda sympathizer, not a foreign fighter, not a member of the dissolved Ba’ath Party, nor was he affiliated with it in any way, and not even an Iraqi Sunni, for any such affiliation would fit perfectly in the political and media scripts that would demonize the man as an enemy of the Iraqi people, stability, democracy, freedom, and the rest of the redundant clichés. Al-Zaidi is simply an Iraqi man who has, as a journalist, highlighted the suffering of his people as politely, ‘objectively’ and ‘professionally’ as he could, and when he could no longer tolerate the lies told in the Green Zone’s ever malicious drama, he scrapped the script altogether, chucking his shoes at the main actor: This is a farewell kiss, you dog! This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.” His words, although uttered for the first time in the Green Zone theater, echoed the voices of millions of Iraqis outside, who have chanted these words, for six long, tragic years.

ATI/AMD [modifier]

N'ayant pu fournir, au lancement des Phenom II, la nouvelle batterie dell XPS M1330 génération de chipset 8xx qui ne sera finalement prête que pour le second trimestre 2010, AMD a décidé de proposer les modèles déjà commercialisés pour les batterie dell Inspiron 1318 premier Phenom mais modifiés pour supporter le socket AM3. Par la suite, le fondeur a toutefois profité des innovations sur ces puces PABAS174 graphiques RV7x0 pour mettre à jour certains de ses modèles à IGP avec l'arrivée des puces graphiques HD4x00 (785G). Les principales nouveautés résident dans le support de DirectX 10.1, l'implantation de la norme 1.3 du HDMI ainsi qu'un plus grand nombre PABAS098 de transistors[49]. Malgré leur nomenclature, ces puces ne sont cependant pas très différentes des précédents modèles basés sur le RV610 mais correspondent davantage à une évolution (RV620). En outre elles PA3682U-1BRS ne prennent toujours pas en charge le son LPCM en 7.1[50].

C'est au cours du Cebit 2010 que AMD PA3535U-1BRS a dévoilé ses premiers modèles de chipset de la série 8x0. Par rapport à la génération 7x0, cette nouvelle gamme ne représente pas une évolution majeure. Elle se caractérise surtout par l'adoption du SATA 6 Gbps géré par un nouveau southbridge SB850[Note 9] mais continue de nécessiter une pucePA3534U-1BRS tiers Nec PD720200 pour le support de l'USB 3.0. En conséquence le bus entre southbridge et northbridge (Alink Express III) a été renforcé avec un débit de 2 Go/s contre 1 Go/s. Enfin le réseau Gigabit PA3534U-1BAS est géré nativement par le chipset.
La partie graphique évolue peu avec la Radeon 4290. Elle peut être couplé en parallèle uniquement avec une Radeon HD5450 (Hybrid CrossFire) pour augmenter de 25 % les performances[51] batterie toshiba mais on perd alors le DirectX 11.
NVIDIA [modifier]

Cependant ces modèles seront les derniers chipsets proposés par NVIDIA pour les processeurs batterie Toshiba Satellite A300 Series Phenom II. Le fabricant a effet annoncé[55] cesser tout développement dans le secteur des chipsets suite à la politique de plate-forme AMD intégrant processeur et chispet batterie Toshiba Satellite A300D-154 et limitant de fait la concurrence. Cette initiative s'étend aussi aux processeurs Intel pour des raisons différentes.
Le successeur du Phenom II [modifier]

à l'occasion de la commercialisation des modèles Athlon II Energy batterie Toshiba Satellite A305 Series efficient, AMD a dévoilé sa roadmap[56] dans lequel il indique migrer vers la gravure 32 nm pour 2011 tandis que son concurrent, Intel, garde une longueur d'avance car il batterie Toshiba Satellite A305D Série devrait commercialiser ces premiers modèles en 32 nm pour le début 2010. la nouvelle gamme sera représenté par les processeur Zambezi, autrefois appelé Orochi, qui disposeront de quatre c?urs minimum. Ces modèles annonceront aussi des changements avec l'abandon du support de la mémoire DDR2 et la gestion batterie Toshiba Satellite A350 Série du socket AM3r2. L'ensemble constituera la plate-forme Scorpuis.

Gestion de la DDR3-1333 MHz [modifier]

Les Phenom II sur socket AM3 sont les premiers processeurs AMD à intégrer la gestion batterie Toshiba Satellite A350D Série de la mémoire DDR3, tout comme les Intel Core i7. Bien que ces derniers ne peuvent officiellement gérer que jusque la DDR3-1066, le contr?leur DDR3 des Phenom II peut accepter jusqu'à la DDR3-1333. Or AMD a reconnu qu'il existait un bug dans la gestion de quatre barrettes de DDR-1333[10]. Ce bug oblige les utilisateurs batterie Toshiba Satellite A355 Série à ne monter que deux barrettes de ce type ou lui préférer le montage de quatre barrettes de DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500). Il sera par la suite réglé avec la révision C3.
Débridage du processeur [modifier]

Plusieurs références Phenom II reposent batterie Toshiba Satellite A355D Série sur la désactivation de certains composants du die jugés défectueux dans le but de rentabiliser les chaines de production. Toutefois certaines séries semblent ne pas présenter de composants défectueux au point qu'il soit possible de les réactiver. Il s'avèrerait que l'identifiant CPUID[11] permette de déterminer le type batterie Toshiba Satellite A500 Série de puce exploitée pour chaque gamme de processeur :

* RB : puce de Phenom II X4

Réactivation VGP-BPL8A des c?urs [modifier]

Le premier cas connu concerne batterie Toshiba Satellite A505 Série la réactivation du quatrième c?ur des Phenom II X3. Une simple manipulation du bios[12] permet de le réactiver et de transformer le Phenom II X3 en Phenom II X4[13]. Toutefois la réussite d'une telle manipulation dépend de la semaine de fabrication du processeur[14] et ne peut être généralisée, pouvant parfois rendre instable le système[15]. Très vite des rumeurs indiquait que AMD voulait interdire batterie Toshiba Satellite A500D Série cette pratique en modifiant la microsonde du processeur voire en demandant aux fabricants une mise à jour du bios des cartes mères[16], il faudra attendre quelques mois pour que AMD réagisse en réfutant une telle idée batterie Toshiba Satellite L200 Série considérant que seuls quelques chanceux pourront débrider leur Phenom II[17]. Entre temps, certains fabricants de carte-mères ont confirmé à la presse la viabilité d'une telle batterie Toshiba Satellite L300 Série manipulation. Tout d'abord ASRock via ses cartes-mères à base de chipset 790GX et 780G[18] puis Gigabyte a dévoilé une série d'illustrations à la presse vantant une telle pratique mais sur la base du chipset nForce 720d[19] confirmant ainsi que le déblocage était possible aussi sur les chipsets Nvidia grace à l'ajout de batterie Toshiba Satellite L300D Série la fonction NVCC, équivalent chez AMD de la fonction ACC. Plus tard, ASRock a de nouveau récidivé[20] en indiquant que les Athlon II X3 pourront eux aussi retrouver batterie Toshiba Satellite L305 Série leur quatrième c?ur manquant[Note 5]. En octobre 2009, le fabricant Asus a profité des mises à jour du bios de plusieurs de ses modèles de carte mère pour intégrer une fonction nommé Unleashing mode qui faciliterait la réactivation des c?urs batterie Toshiba Satellite L305D Série fonctionnels[21].
Réactivation du cache L3 [modifier]

Tout comme les c?urs, il est possible de réactiver le cache L3 manquant batterie Toshiba Satellite L350 Série pour les série Phenom II X4 8xx (4 Mio au lieu de 6 Mio) en effectuant une mise à jour du bios de la carte mère[22]. Toutefois cette méthode n'est pas stable car batterie Toshiba Satellite L450 Série un simple reboot ou Clear CMOS suffit à annuler la modification. Il semble que l'ACC en soit la cause[23] car ce dernier disparait par la suite.
Débloquer le coefficient multiplicateur [modifier]
