Dear Readers and Fellow-Apes; 2008 was a Murky and Hapless Year! Let us hope that 2009 does not turn out to be even More Murky and Hapless!
I intentionally did not wish you a Merry Christmas, because Christmas is another story for another Posting at another time; and I do not wish you a Happy New Year, since I believe that ONLY FOOLS ARE, OR CAN BE, HAPPY ALL YEAR ROUND. I do, however, wish all of you A GOOD YEAR! With a little Good in one's life, one can be a little happy, which is all one can ask for in one's short sweet dream one calls a life-time. BY GOD AND SATAN!
A Jack of many trades and master of all; I am honest to the core and I hate lies, deceits, pretensions, hypocrisy, treachery, betrayal, and stoic compliance; and I despise – and actually pity – Human-Apes who follow-the-herd-or-pack
I expose and reveal the lies, deceits, pretensions, hypocrisy, treachery, betrayal, and blind, deaf, and stoic compliance, and Human-Apes who follow-the-herd-or-pack; I tell or write the truth; and I say what I mean and mean what I sayI fear nothing; least of all, death
If I must fear anything at all in life, then let me fear what I think and know of myself; because, in the end, one’s knowledge and opinion of oneself is what counts most. All the world may think and believe one is such and such, but one knows one is such and such. Also, I like to look in the mirror and like what I see and know about me.
I invite comments, remarks, criticisms, and even insults – so long as they are straight to the point, in order for me to correct or adjust myself accordingly. What I do not welcome and won’t accept or tolerate is HORSE-SHIT!
Dear readers and felow-Apes; with every page, every report or article, every paragraph, every sentence, every word, and every letter; I thank you for taking the trouble and the time to read My Not-So-Humble Comments.
THE LOST SHEEP – If you have 100 guests and one of them leaves for one reason or the other; ignore and even leave the other 99 and run after the one
The Lost Sheep
Gleaned from: Matthew 18: verses 12 to 18 and Luke 15: verses 4 to 7 with my-not-so-humble comments included or inserted and/or added
The following was according to Jesus:
If a man has 100 sheep and loses one of them – one stupid stubborn sheep that refused to follow the flock, and decided to wander off – will he not leave the 99 in the hills or in the open country – exposed to wolves, other predators, thieves, and the elements – and go after and look for the lost sheep until he finds it? And when or if he finds it, eventually – looking for a stupid stubborn sheep in the hills or in the open country may take hours, or days, or weeks – sheep are not clever animals – that is, if it hasn’t been killed and eaten or stolen already – does he not lift it up onto his shoulders, joyfully, and carry it home? The dumb naïve obtuse moron has forgotten all about the other 99 faithful and obedient sheep! And does he not call all his friends and neighbours and say to them: rejoice in me, for I have found my one lost stupid stubborn sheep? – he probably kills one or two of the 99 faithful and obedient sheep to provide them with a feast – friends and neighbours do not leave their homes or what they’re doing to just come and listen to a fool bleating braying and farting about one lost stupid stubborn sheep. They have probably already gone and stolen some or most – if not all – of the 99 he left behind.
Jesus: I tell you, that there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who do not need to repent!
JEEZ! AND BY GOD AND SATAN, TOO, TO BOOT! No wonder the sinners in the world – on earth or on the planet – live and fare better than the non-sinners!

Perseverance: My Story with Cancer – Thoughts of a Gorgeous Palestinian Woman
By Emtiaz Rasheed 23rd October, 2008
Daniel: Dear readers and fellow-Apes; you know me too well by now. I was so touched by the plight of this beautiful soft sweet and succulent young lady – no female-Ape, out of respect for her beauty and her plight – that I decided to share it with you. However, I have included or inserted and/or added my not-so-humble comments, and those of you fellow-Apes out there that know me well enough will know.
Emtiaz Rasheed:
I was diagnosed with Cancer in January of this year. At the time, when the doctor told me the news, I felt as if he was talking about someone else. Then, a few minutes into the conversation, he asked me if I had any questions. I opened my mouth to answer, but nothing came out. My mouth was dry, my tongue was tied, my mind was frozen, my body was rigid, and my hands were gripping the arms of the chair, tightly.
I suppose the doctor and I talked for a while after that but I have no memory of it. All I remember is walking out of the hospital, sitting in my car, putting the key in the ignition and switching it on, turning on the radio, with Arabic music playing as always, and sitting there in the car watching people walking in and out of the hospital like nothing had happened.
I don't know why at moments of crises we assume the whole world should stop; it never did before. But somehow I thought that that time it would be different, and that it would take care of me and my Cancer – My Cancer! I never asked for it or wanted it!
After sitting in my car for I don’t recall how long, it dawned on me that I should head home to tell my family and friends the terrible news; and I knew that that was going to be the most difficult thing I had ever done and I wasn't sure how I would handle it.
I tried to concentrate on my driving; meanwhile my thoughts were one moment chasing each other, the next moment intertwined. I thought of everything and nothing.
I got to the street where I live, but then I decided not to tell anyone; not just yet. I had to get a grip on it and myself before I could find the words for anyone else. Also, there was my niece's wedding which was going to take place in the next few days. I could not do that to my loved ones. That was supposed to be the happiest of occasions – for my niece at least – and such moments of joy come few and far in-between the daily toil and turmoil of life; so I put my problem on the back burner and just enjoyed the last couple of weeks of normality.
I had the greatest time at the wedding, and I never felt better. And, by taking that time off, I realized that I, Emtiaz, the real me, was still there; perhaps scared, shocked, upset, disappointed, anxious and frustrated, but my core, my heart and my soul, were still the same; perhaps even improved and strengthened by the challenge. I became more compassionate and passionate than I ever was.
I had my break-down in private; complained, cried, and raged at the unfairness of it all but then I calmed down and prayed, and I asked God for help; then I told my family and friends about it and began my preparations for my treatment, knowing it was going to be a long and terrible battle – with no holds barred.
The cancer diagnosis shattered my world for a while but made my decisions clearer for me; there are no ifs or buts about it; its either I hide and cower in a corner and die, or collect the pieces, put myself back together, and go on; and I chose the latter. I must do whatever needs to be done to survive, not only because I have a family that needs me, but because I feel this is the best time of my life. I feel better about myself than I ever did, I'm more comfortable in my own skin than I ever was before, and I'm enjoying life more than ever.
There are still a lot of things I look forward to: raising my children, travelling, meeting new people, loving and being loved, living life to the full, and loving it for its best…and its worst.
Unlike other people, I cannot plan for 20 years from now; I cannot think of when I grow old. I can only try to live my life – take it a day, or perhaps an hour, at a time – as it comes at me; work hard, play hard, fight Cancer hard, and love even harder. In fact, I now insist that the time I have left here on earth be well spent.
Ever since I was a child, I have always felt that my life was not going to be a long one. Call it intuition or premonition; it’s just a feeling of urgency and restlessness to see more, to do more, to say more, to love more, to be more.
Perhaps it’s God's way of making my time on this earth really matter – to those that really matter. It’s funny, but most of the time, those that we think really matter aren’t those that really matter.
Living (hopefully) and loving (assuredly) always
Emtiaz Rasheed
Daniel:
Dear Emtiaz
As the extreme opposite of a misogynist, I admire and appreciate your beauty and your soft and sweet femininity; as a Man-the-Ape, I admire your courage and resilience, and I respect you; and as a human-Ape, I salute you and wish you well.
I would pray for you if I could – and if I knew how – but I wouldn’t; and not because I am a cold coarse and callous monster. It’s just that, for one thing, I wouldn’t lie to you and say or write words I did not mean; for another, I stopped praying when I was 14 or 15; and ever since then, nothing has happened and nothing has taken place to make me change my mind – if you look around you you’ll know what I mean.
Cancer is a ruthless relentless resilient and (almost) incurable disease, so this one time only, and for your sake – and for the sake of all those stricken with cancer and other terrible incurable diseases; and for the sake of all those that suffer in silence in squalor, and death by starvation (especially children); driven out of their homes and their countries by wars and other typical Human-Ape acts; others by economic or political forces; but most by natural disasters; forced to live in tents and make-shift structures and shelters, with not even the barest of the bare necessities or facilities; living on hand-outs: the trifle that the UN and its affiliates and the other Con-Syndicates allow to trickle down to them; forced to beg to live, and not: alms for the love of Allah, but: a loaf for life, and to pray for a quick death – I hope there is a God out there somewhere, and that He is listening to you……or else!
http://blogs.albawaba.com/imtiyazr/70460/2008/10/23/103468-perseverance-my-storyHUMAN-APES GOD RELIGION WAR DEATH AND THE GRAVE – with every sunrise and sunset, we are drawn ever closer to the grave
For the umpteenth and last time, nothing escapes Daniel in The Lion's Den! He fears nothing; least of all death! Also, Daniel says what he means and means what he says.
Death, albeit horrifying, is inevitable yet very important and absolutely necessary!
Imagine life or a world without death – BY GOD AND SATAN! The dinosaurs would be using us all as stepping-stones, if they could get through the trees and foliage! All creatures or life-forms, including Human-Apes, that eat not (if there is no death then no creature may eat, because to eat means to kill), shit not (if one eats not, one shits not; obvious), sleep not, work not, fight not, fart not (I like this), fornicate not, and struggle not; in short, DO NAUGHT AND DIE NOT!
In two words: IM-POSSIBLE; and I know it is one word!
All creatures and plants struggle and rush ever forward, onward, and upwards; first to survive, and eventually to death.
Mankind, the worst species of Apes (Monkeys) ever to evolve – abhorrent adamant arrogant asinine banal base blatant brutish coarse callous cowardly cruel cunning demanding deceitful destructive egoistic envious fickle grasping greedy gross indifferent ignorant impudent inane insane intolerant malicious mindless mischievous moronic murderous naïve obtuse pathetic puerile puny quixotic reckless selfish silly surly treacherous unreasonable vain vicious vindictive wanton wily and wicked Apes – and all that in Alphabetical order, too – in their blind ignorance and illusions, self-delusions and superstitious fear; go to bed, or mat, or whatever, each night; thanking a ruthless and merciless God that does not exist; little knowing that, with every sunrise and sunset, they are drawn ever closer to the grave – the abyss! And this after spending, actually wasting, the whole day conning, duping, cheating, lying to, stealing from, pushing, kicking, butting, barking at and biting, trampling on, fighting, and killing his fellow-Apes! Meanwhile, they fornicate and multiply like rabbits, and decimate themselves at the same time through silly, ludicrous, and ridiculous wars – Maxima Bella Ex Levissimis Causis – that's in Latin, and it means: The Greatest Wars Are For The Silliest Causes – all the while, praying to, calling on, asking, and begging that same God whom they had invented in the first place – in their various and separate religions that they had created in order to have a reason and an excuse to do all of the above – to help, strengthen, and protect them against their Fellow-Apes, and themselves!
I ASK YOU!
HUMAN-APES NECESSITY SLAVERY POPULATION POVERTY – everyone is someone’s slave is someone’s master is someone’s slave is…Etc and so forth and so on
Slavery out of Necessity; Necessity out of Poverty; Poverty out of Population
Slavery is infused or built-in in all life-forms. Like my late beloved Mama – who is I, myself, and me – would say: “Necessity is the mother of Slavery, and Poverty is relative to Population.”
In view of the present conditions and situations existing in Africa in general, and in certain African countries in particular, it is my belief and contention that THE SLAVE TRADE was the best thing that ever happened to the AFRICANS and the other slaves – those that survived the terrible and horrible ordeal. If you need proof, just look at the Africans, or blacks, in The USA and elsewhere.
SLAVERY has existed since time immemorial……and still does!
Fear, Anxiety, and Angst were what forced or prompted Human-Apes to invent and/or create God and Satan and other Who-not and What-not.
Angst: in existentialism; a feeling of dread arising from an awareness of free choice
Existentialism: a philosophical movement centered on individual existence that was begun in the 19th century and that denies that the universe has any intrinsic meaning or purpose. It requires Human-Apes to make their own decisions and choices and to take responsibility for their own actions, and shape their own destinies.
In some countries, Slavery exists plainly and openly; in others – including the so-called advanced countries – it goes under a more subtle and camouflaged, albeit polished, name: worker, servant, gardener, house-maid, charlady, cook, driver, employee, nurse, baby-sitter, and even doctor, manager, mechanic, engineer, architect……ad infinitum
In fact, Slavery exists everywhere on the planet, and it comes in many forms and guises; downright slavery: slaves actually bought and paid for or captured in battles; employment slavery; self-imposed or willful slavery: the strong desire to be rich and/or famous – celebrity slavery – matrimonial slavery; parental slavery; entrapment slavery: prostitution and enforced or no-choice slavery: no education or skills and cannot hold down a job but need to live, Etc and so forth and so on.
Presidents, Ministers, and high officials; even Kings or Queens, and the people, are mutual slaves of each other. We voted for you or chose you so now, you work for us; you voted for me or chose me so now, you work for me. Complicated? No; it’s very simple. It even exists among the insects, like the ants; and the bees; and the primates: monkeys, apes (like the chimpanzees) and humans – I mention these because I have read about them and, if anyone took the trouble and the time, they would find out that Slavery exists, in one form or the other, everywhere and in all the life-forms on the planet. Wherever people have to get up at certain times, and/or be at certain places at certain times, and perform certain tasks or duties, or do certain work, and/or tolerate berating, insults, rudeness, crudity, annoyance and/or abuse, and leave and/or sleep at certain times, there is, and it is, SLAVERY – whether we like it or not, and whether we accept it or not! The only difference is when and where people own the businesses or establishments or occupy high posts and can therefore have a little more freedom than others (they still have to be on the job and do some work, otherwise they’ll lose it); and when a person reads and understands, and agrees to and signs, a contract BEFORE, and has certain rights in a particular country, and a government or an Embassy that is prepared to look into, and is able to solve that person’s problems, then that person becomes a Slave with certain limited rights and/or privileges. That’s all.
In the civilized democratic countries, no man-Ape or woman-Ape is above the law – from the King or Queen, through the president and/or prime minister to ministers, senators, and representatives – so everyone is accountable to someone, and they are all accountable to the people who, in the end decide who rules, who governs, and who represents; and who are in turn accountable to the laws of the land as represented by them……
However, in some countries – no names, if you please – the maxim: “all Human-Apes are created equal” has been modified and adjusted to read: “some Human-Apes are more equal than others” and therefore a few tread and step on the heads and backs of the rest – in other words; a few are owners and lord it over the rest, who are their slaves, BUT! These owners and lords are in turn slaves of others, too: their wives, their concubines or mistresses Etc, who are in turn Slaves to them since they depend on and succumb to them; or some foreign leaders who manipulate and exploit them and who are in turn Slaves to their wives, concubines or mistresses or others, Etc, who are in turn Slaves to them……
So; like my late beloved Mama would say: “You want to stop Racism? Kill everyone!” “You want to stop or eliminate SLAVERY? Make everyone a millionaire; and even then, everyone is someone’s slave is someone’s master is someone’s slave is someone’s master is someone’s slave is someone’s master is someone’s or something’s slave!”
Slavery out of Necessity; Necessity out of Poverty; Poverty out of Population
Necessity is the mother of Slavery, and Population is the mother of Poverty.
To make poverty history we would have to kill at least half of the whole world’s population; and even then, it would still be impossible, unless we could find a way of either stopping them from fornicating and having babies – breeding – like rabbits; in other words; sterilize most of them and control and breed the rest of them – sure and absolute proof that Mankind are descended from APES, and APES of the worst kind or species, too, to boot!
Religion and Politics survive and thrive on Population and Poverty. Those of you out there who haven’t read ‘The Martyrdom of Man’ by Winwood Reade ought to do so as soon as possible.
JEEZ! That was my late beloved Mama. She knew a thing or two, and she was nobody’s fool! Nobody’s fool who fools nobody but fools! BY GOD AND SATAN!
By the way; I know you know I know you know I know you know that my late beloved Mama is I, myself, and me.
THE PLIGHTS OF OTHERS VI – Some driven out of, and out, by wars and other typical Human-Ape acts; others by economic or political forces; but most by natural disasters
Maxima Bella Ex Levissimis Causis: the greatest wars are for the silliest causes
By I, myself, and me: Daniel in The Lion’s Den – fearless, ruthless, relentless, reckless, and resilient.
Armed conflicts have often been accompanied by large-scale movements of civilians, both within the borders of a country and across international borders. International humanitarian law expressly prohibits the forced displacement of civilians in both international and non-international armed conflicts, and offers protection should displacements occur.
1994
Renewed civil war is possible in Rwanda, and ethnic violence could also be re-ignited in neighbouring Burundi and according to UN figures, there are about 1.3 million Rwandan refugees in Zaire, 550,000 in Tanzania and about 11.8 million people still displaced in Rwanda……

I repeat: we never realise the worth of what we’ve got until we see what others haven’t got; and we never appreciate what we’ve got until we've lost it. Also, as if the desolation of the displaced by natural phenomena aren’t enough, one wonders exactly what Rat-Shits like Osama Bin Ladin – and the other selfish greedy vicious vain and egoistic mad-megalomaniacs and war-mongers – think they’re doing!
THE DIRE PLIGHTS OF OTHERS V – Christians Forced to Flee or Die. You go, you live miserably and die later; you stay, you die now, and quick
Gleaned from: ABC and IRIN-News/Plus-News
ABC Australian Broadcasting Corporation Tuesday 14th October 2008
Iraqi Christians forced to flee or die
Iraqi Christians fleeing attacks in the northern city of Mosul said they were being driven out. The Mosul Displacement and Migration Ministry said over 1,000 Christian families had left their homes in the city, 390 kilometres north of Baghdad, and that between 5 and 14 Christians had been killed in previous days and their houses had been blown up; and shopkeepers had been shot. Daniel: Remember; estimates x 2 at least.
The Prime Minister ordered an investigation and vowed to protect Christians in Mosul, previously known as one of Iraq's most tolerant cities. Iraqi police had made at least a dozen arrests and deployed more than 1,000 police to protect Christian areas.
Christian displacement slows down in Ninevah
IRIN-News/Plus-News Sunday 26th October 2008
Fewer Iraqi Christian families have fled their homes in Mosul, the provincial capital of the northern province of Ninevah, thanks to the heavy presence of security forces; but families who had already fled anti-Christian attacks over the past few weeks now live in difficult conditions despite receiving aid on a daily basis but are still reluctant to return to their homes. The Iraqi Red Crescent Society IRCS did not register any new displacements among Christian families over the past week.
Anti-Christian violence in Mosul erupted on 4th October when gunmen started killing and threatening Christians, telling them to leave the city.
On 24th October, the UN High Commission for Refugees agency estimated that more than 2,200 families, or some 13,000 people, had fled their homes since 4th October. UNHCR said this represented about half the Christian population in Nenevah. It added that about 400 families had crossed the border into Syria while others had gone to safe areas to the north and east of Mosul and others to the neighbouring Dahuk, Erbil and Kirkuk provinces.
Police estimated that 12 Christians had died in the violence. The latest incident was on 13th October when gunmen broke into a music store in Mosul, killing its Christian owner and wounding his nephew.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks but Sunni extremists are believed to be behind the campaign which is taking place despite US-Iraqi operations aimed at routing insurgents from remaining strongholds north of the capital.
According to UNHCR, the newly displaced 13,000 Christians add to the more than 4.2 million Iraqis who have fled their homes since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Of these, about 2 million are living as refugees in neighbouring countries – in Lebanon and mostly in Syria and Jordan – while the remainders are displaced within Iraq.
THE DIRE PLIGHTS OF OTHERS IV – People Never Appreciate What They’ve Got Until They See What Others Haven’t Got
GLOBAL: Forced to flee
Gleaned from: IRIN-News/Plus-News Thursday 23rd October 2008
Tens of millions of people around the world have been forced to flee their homes, but unlike refugees who are protected by international law, they remain within the borders of their own countries. They are the displaced. Some of these people have been driven out by war, others by economic or political forces, but most have been displaced by natural disasters. IRIN presents 2 films tell the story of two very different communities of the displaced – focusing on two very different communities: one in Africa, the DRC, and the other in Asia, the Philippines – and the terrible challenges they face – Daniel: Let us hope that IRIN will follow up with films on all the displaced, wherever they are......that is, if IRIN hasn't already made them.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are forced to flee their homes to escape war or natural disasters. Displaced within their own country and having lost loved ones, livelihoods and belongings, they face terrible hardships. Around the world there are as many as 70 million of them and their plights are largely forgotten. To highlight this ongoing human-Apes catastrophe – Daniel: Don’t forget; estimates x 2!
In the first of these films, IRIN visited a small lake-side town in North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, overcrowded by the arrival of thousands of displaced people seeking safety from fighting in the surrounding hills. But even there, the displaced were not safe. Women venturing out of town to farm their fields faced rape, crossfire or brutal killing at the hands of armed gangs. Some of them had already fled their homes more than once, and after the film had been made, were forced to flee again, as the cycle of conflict, human rights violations, and displacements goes on.
The second film shows the crushing consequences for a previously relatively well-off family in the Philippines, after a typhoon and landslides had wiped out their home and livelihood in the shadow of a volcano in Legaspi, Albay Province. Even though the government is building them a new house and life is peaceful and relatively safe, they are stranded far from their land, which was ruined and no longer fit for agriculture. They lost their self-sufficiency and are now dependent on handouts to survive, and the next generation will face a very different life with new risks and limited opportunities.
Daniel: JEEZ! The next generation! IRIN knows! In spite of their dire plights, and because of the hand-outs, and the free new house the government is building for them, these Monkeys – human-Apes – are going to fornicate and have babies! What the Fuck in Horse-shit did you think the next generation meant, Hah?
http://www.irinnews.org/filmorders/forcedtoflee.asp the film can also be viewed on the IRIN website www.irinnews.org/film
Daniel: Dear readers and fellow-Apes; we never realise what we’ve got until we see what others haven’t got; and we never appreciate what we’ve got until we lose it. Also, as if the desolation of the displaced by natural phenomena aren’t enough, one wonders exactly what Rat-Shits like Osama Bin Ladin – and the other selfish greedy vicious vain and egoistic mad-megalomaniacs and war-mongers – think they’re doing!
THE DIRE PLIGHTS OF OTHERS III – Rape the women and rip off the men; then wait for the next batch of desperate souls with their……The truth hurts
Daniel: This reminds me of the Slave Trade and the stupid senseless and futile attempts by Britain to put a stop to it, thereby forcing the Slave Traders to adopt more stringent and cruel methods of transportation and avoiding detection. If any of you – dear readers and fellow-Apes – out there think Slavery no longer exists, you had better think again and again. Read: 420 coming soon
WEST AFRICA: Migrants risk all to cross desert
Gleaned from: IRIN-News/Plus-News 9th October 2008
AGADEZ: Sub-Sahara migrants continue attempting dangerous and illegal crossings into Libya and Algeria. They struggle through Niger's Air Mountains, circumventing mountain rebellions, increased mountain banditry, and North African border police crackdowns, according to migrants/smugglers in the mountain gateway town of Agadez
A 22-year-old Ghanaian migrant told IRIN that he regretted leaving Ghana in search of work when the truck he was travelling on was stopped on 12th August – 500km from Agadez – en route to Libya. A truck-full of armed bandits intercepted their truck, forced them to undress and took everything of value. They then took five Ghanaian women and five Nigerian women away into the desert. The love was free but the fuck cost them their clothes and valuables. He said the bandits stole over US$300 and took all his clothes; he had prepared well before leaving Ghana, but he lost everything en route and wasn’t sure how he would eat that night.
According to a May 2007 UN Children's Fund study: Despite a sharp drop in tourism since the outbreak of a mountain rebellion in February 2007, thousands of West Africans still pass through the former tourist hub of Agadez to reach North Africa – and for some, Europe.
People smugglers: dealers in and exploiters of human-Ape misery
Upon arrival in Agadez, the job-seeking migrants are greeted by people smugglers – Daniel: Human-vultures in Ape-forms.
A resident in Agadez said the smuggler network has grown in recent years: Since the 1990s, there has been an endless flow of migrants travelling through Agadez to Libya and Algeria to find work, earn some money, and then continue on to Europe. Most of them arrive in Agadez broke, and are forced to do whatever they can to survive to pay these agents.
He described a well-organised smuggling operation that rivalled any travel agency, except without the signs, and without ads.
A 2007 UN-funded Niger government study estimated that at least 10 unauthorised transportation businesses with a dozen offices and more than 50 employees – were transporting migrant passengers.
Known locally as “Tchagga” these sub-Saharan smugglers help the West African migrants to find transportation, lodgings, and meals – bribing officials as necessary.
The study estimated the cost of the trip could run to US$250 per person after all the middlemen's fees have been taken into account. The average monthly salary in much of sub-Saharan Africa is US$45, according to a 2008 UN estimate.
Rebellion alters routes
Mountain rebel violence, which surged in February 2007, changed the drivers' normal route into Algeria.
Trucks leaving from Arlit in Niger for Tamarrrasset in Algeria – which cost an additional US$10 per person, and cover 875km – try to avoid police posts and military convoys on the lookout for rebels.
On 8th October, a man requesting anonymity told IRIN his brother died on 19th September when his truck filled with migrants hit a mine 40km from the northern Niger military post of Madama, 1000km from Agadez. He said four of the migrants on board also died.
A 20-year-old migrant from Kumasi, Ghana, who preferred anonymity, told IRIN the risk of violence and security crackdowns would not deter him: You hear about the risks but it is difficult to know what it is really like out there. You know, everybody has their luck. We just pray to cross the desert. Daniel: Poor desperate soul!
In 2008, a study on illegal immigration by OSIWA: the research and advocacy non-governmental organisation: Open Society Institute for West Africa said that draconian security crackdowns on illegal migrants in North Africa had led to the forced, and at times violent, expulsion of migrants.
Stranded on purpose
A migrant smuggler who preferred anonymity dismissed fraud allegations against the drivers, and said that that wasn’t true. Without migrants, they would have no business. The migrants' countrymen cheated them and blamed the drivers. Daniel: That is an absolute lie! The migrant’s countrymen could not possibly cheat each other. They wouldn’t dare since the driver-escort-guide was like a captain on a ship, and had absolute power over them.
A man told IRIN that on one of his several attempts to cross the desert to Algeria, the driver left his group in Tchmilkom, 70km from the Niger border. The driver told them there wasn&r
