THE TELEVISION is an instrument of The Media, like the radio and the newspaper or magazine Etc; but the difference between the television and the others is vast, very important, and highly significant.
The media depends on two very essential senses: sight and sound; and one very important factor, time. The newspaper prints the news, events, incidents, articles, columns, facts, and information – good or bad – with pictures, when available, after it has already happened, or before it happens. Via the radio, we can only hear about what happened, has happened, is happening, or is going to happen. One depends on sight, and the other depends on sound. In very remote or isolated areas the radio can be very useful; but the people who live and work in these areas usually do not care much about what is happening or taking place elsewhere. Also, they cannot see what they hear, and people should believe only half of what they see, and nothing of what they hear. Only the TV can do the job perfectly and completely, if used properly and correctly; because it can be either a very useful tool or a highly dangerous weapon.
The advantages of the Television are: it provides us with instant information about and scenes of events, incidents, accidents, floods, hurricanes, Tsunamis, earthquakes, wars, epidemics, predicaments, disasters, and/or catastrophes that happen almost anywhere in the world – or in space, for that matter.
Through the TV, people can be entertained, enlightened, amused, informed, taught, guided, instructed, and educated. It can be used to provide accurate information about the news, or the weather – whether local or worldwide – and other useful and valuable knowledge and facts. It can be used to educate and advise the public on matters that concern their health, security, comfort, safety, and well-being; and teach preventive methods and measures against over-population, through birth-control and awareness, and highly dangerous and contagious diseases like AIDS, cancer, Encephalitis, the Ebola virus, and other several new, terrifying and horrible, and almost incurable diseases that are sprouting and popping up all over the world like mushrooms and snails after the rain. Also, terrible incurable and irreversible social diseases like drugs and alchohol abuse, sex, crime, violence, molestations, gambling, and prostitution in all its forms and guises; not to mention child abuse/molestation and exploitation – sexual and other – wife-beating, adultery, and divorce; human, human body-parts, and child-trafficking; and many others.
It can be used to entertain the public through programmes, films, shows, documentaries and serials that are well-made, informative and instructive; enlightening, amusing, and exciting; and do not contain misdemeanors, atrocities, and other disgusting immoral and harmful scenes, language, and activities. Also, the TV can be used to sway the public from one position, or opinion, or point of view, to another. In this case, if it is right, it is an advantage; if it is wrong, a disadvantage; which brings us to the disadvantages of the TV.
We cannot; in fact, we dare not fail to mention the fact that the TV can be used to misguide, misinform, and mislead the public. It can be used to misinterpret and distort facts, events, and incidents; and thereby dupe, coerce, incite, or force the public or the people to look at the matter incorrectly, and see things differently; and, as a result, to misunderstand the situation, arrive at the wrong conclusion, make the wrong decision, adopt the wrong attitude, and do the wrong thing.
A lot of people, especially children, spend a lot of time – too much, if you ask me – watching television, or playing games on computer-screens that are miniature televisions, instead of studying, reading, or doing other useful and helpful activities. Because of the television there is no more quality-time between parents and children, no more being together as a family, or as neighbours, friends, or a community; also, social fabrics and family ties have been disrupted, if not actually (almost) destroyed.
Gone forever are the times, the days and nights, or evenings of sitting on the porch, or in the garden, or in front of the house, or at the community centre, or standing at the gate or fence, or in the street, or anywhere else; conversing, exchanging views, news, and gossips; advice and complaints; comments and remarks; and sometimes discussing, or arguing about, matters that concern or involve certain individuals, or the community as a whole; and often engaging in amusing, interesting, entertaining, enlightening, and yet harmless, activities and games – if not completely gone, they're rarely seen and seldom done; and all because everybody is either at work or asleep, or glued to the (TV) screen.
Also, to top it all off, some channels, if not all, broadcast programmes, films, shows, and serials that contain ugly, horrible, terrible, dangerous, disgusting, silly and stupid, but highly contagious (post-hypnotic or post-impressive) scenes, activities, and language (messages) that are abnormal, immoral, disruptive, and harmful – to society in general, and to children in particular.
So, to sum it all up, if used correctly and properly, The Television can be a very useful, helpful, and beneficial tool or instrument; if used incorrectly and improperly, it can be a very harmful and highly dangerous weapon.
However, and but! We must not forget that governments or companies, agencies, or corporations that establish Television Channels, do so for money; in other words, it’s business; and business means/involves management, staff, employees, and workers; and these have to be, or need to be paid; also, equipment, accessories, fittings, and tools; and their servicing, maintenance, and replacement; and the only way for a business to operate, and remain in operation, is to be lucrative, and that is to make money; and the only way or means for TV Companies to make money is through advertisements; and advertisers want only one thing; and that is to reach, and convince the public – the consumers, patrons, and customers – to buy their products, dine in their restaurants, or go to see their shows or films, Etc; and the public, Etc, are made up of different people from different Religious and Ethnic backgrounds and environments; who live in different areas and in different situations and/or circumstances; with different ideas, different thoughts, and different ways of looking at things; with different wants and needs; and with different incomes.
Advertisers must reach, and convince all of these people – or as many of them as possible – by doing their best to give each of them what they want or need; show them what they want to see; tell them what they want to hear; and print what they want to read; and this makes it impossible to remain within certain rules, ethics, or principles; and governments and/or agencies Etc, cannot go into each and every community or home to supervise and/or control the viewers – whether children, adolescents, or adults – as to who should watch what. This must be done within each home, or school, or club, or camp, or wherever, by parents or guardians, or whoever is in charge, or is responsible. And this, too, is almost, if not absolutely, impossible.
So there you have it!
It’s like too many people sitting around a huge camp-fire: some are almost roasted alive – those too close to the fire – some are comfortably warm – those a reasonable distance away from it – and the rest are almost frozen to death – those too far away from it.

DAMASCUS (Reuters): Syria promised Arab Leaders at the Arab League Summit on Saturday to cooperate in ending the political crisis in Lebanon, and regional power Saudi Arabia said it saw Damascus as the main cause of the crisis, and part of the solution.
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP): In a press conference broadcast live on some Arab TVs during the Arab League summit's opening session in Damascus, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal, slammed Syria for obstructing Lebanese Peace Efforts and said that The KSA had never boycotted a summit before.
He blamed The KSA’s boycott of The Arab League Summit on Syria for not abiding by the Arab League Consensus to solve the stale-mated, dead-locked, and road-blocked presidential crisis in Lebanon, and implicitly blasted Syria for worsening most of the crises in the Middle East.
Faisal called for the Arab League to punish any and all member states that breach common resolutions or agreements since the absence of credibility and seriousness in implementing them reduce the League to A FARCE; and make fools, if not monkeys, of the other members and A SHOW-PIECE or MAJOR-MONKEY of the Secretary General. They may call it punishment or disciplinary measures or actions.

For 63 years since she joined The Arab League in 1945, Lebanon attended each and every Arab League Summit in Arab cities in Arab countries all over the world; and every time she attended, she was given the usual Bull-shit Reception and Treatment: Hugs and kisses on the cheeks and a place with comfortable seats and microphones; all the while looking at her Syrian Puppet-President and his Delegation of Syrian Pawns with scorn and contempt. And when it was her turn, Lebanon’s Syrian Puppet-President made his speech; written, checked, and editted by Syria; containing pleas and requests by Syria; demanding resolutions and moves (by The Arab League) all to the benefit and in the interests of Syria. Then! Later, Iran joined the fun.

Fouad Saniora said yesterday that his government stayed away from the Arab Summit to demonstrate the Lebanese people's refusal to accept a presidential vacuum. In a televised speech, Saniora addressed the Arab community, stressing that Lebanon could only be represented by a Christian president, who would reflect the country's diversity and was the only Christian Arab President among all the various Heads of States!
Lebanon has been without a president since Emile Le-Hood stepped down at the end of his term in November last year (2007). Parliamentary sessions to elect a new head of state have been postponed on 17 occasions - by Syria’s and Iran's Champion Mole, Rat, Jackal, Hyena, and Fiend, Nabih Beriberi Berri - as part of the power struggle between the government and the opposition, which Saniora and his allies accuse of obstructing the process on behalf of Syria and Iran.
Syria obstructed the Arab initiative to end Lebanon's crisis and impeded Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa's efforts to push forward a settlement in Lebanon and yet the Arab-Jarab-League went ahead, anyway, and held the Summit in Damascus in Syria!
The Lebanese people demanded that Syria withdraw its troops from their country (2005) not to trade or exchange Syrian tutelage for any other foreign tutelage, and the Lebanese people asked for an international investigation and an international tribunal to try suspects in the murder of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri for justice and not for revenge.
Saniora said that Lebanon will no longer accept or allow Lebanon to be used as the arena - the battleground - for regional conflicts, or as the shit-house for the rest of the world!

NASDAQ (RTTNews) Saturday 29th March: After the snubs by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Lebanon, Jordan inflicted further damage to Syria's tattered reputation when it announced that it would send its Arab League Representative, and not the King, to head the Jordanian delegation to the Arab Summit beginning today in Damascus.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia had previously said they would send low-level delegates to the Summit and Lebanon boycotted the summit altogether.
Heads of States or governments are expected to attend the yearly Arab League Summit in person.
To add to the Syrian discomfiture, Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, decided to skip the summit amid fighting in the southern oil port of Basra - which is being caused or instigated by Syria and Iran. There had been unconfirmed reports that Vice President, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, would attend the Summit in Syria - which is just as bad, if not worse, than if the Prime Minister attends. These Arabs always pass their left hands under their right thighs to rub or scratch their noses!

Wednesday's meeting at Aoun's residence in Rabieh was aimed at bridging the gap between Christian leaders of the opposition and the Head of the Maronite Church after relations between the two sides had recently been strained over political differences. FPM official offal Gibran Zubran Bassil told The Daily Star…FPM low law-maker Ibrahim Kanaan Que-Anne (SHOU HMAR) told The National News Agency…the role of the Church in Lebanon, and its position towards the existing government …and the electoral law…and Christians to be truly represented in state institutions.
My comments: HORSE-SHIT! First of all, role of the Church has been reduced to Rich Beggars with Golden Bowls trudging around and about, begging for alms - attention and respect. Second of all, the Christians - the Maronite Morons and the Catholic Cat-Hole-Itches - have always been represented in State Institutions: what more representation than the Presidency? However, and but! Attention and respect are neither begged for nor asked for; they are earned! IRAN and IRAQ are two of the original State Members of The UNITED NATIONS and yet all through the terrible war between these two states – albeit trouble-makers; both of them – The UN did nothing, even though it could and should have done everything. I can still see, with my mind’s eyes, the hundreds of thousands of IRANIAN youths – all of them in their teens and even below – barely able to hold the rifles that had been thrust into their hands, crying while rushing to their deaths - screaming Allah-U-Akbar before they set off, and Mama when they got half-way - with the keys to paradise hung around their necks and an engraved pass in the pockets of their tunics; signed and sealed by the late Ayatollah Khomeni, who ordered them to their deaths with his blessings - I wonder how many virgins that heartless and mindless Khomeni got for such a feat!
IRAQ and IRAN are two of the original State Members of THE UN and The ARAB LEAGUE and both of these organisations either stood by, or sat by, and played with their toes and looked on with one eye, and looked the other way with the other eye, while IRAQ and IRAN slaughtered, butchered, and mutilated each other.
The late Saddam Hussein used IRAQ – and KUWAIT, too, for a while – as his own personal properties and as his stomping grounds, and treated the IRAQIS and the KUWAITIS as his own personal slaves, and that sorry and miserable state of affairs would have continued to date if The USA and BRITAIN and the coalition forces had not intervened and done what they had to do and what was necessary, AND! What were, in fact, the duties and the functions, and the actual reasons and purposes for the existence of, The UN and THE ARAB LEAGUE in the first place!

LEBANON – JEEZ! – was one of the original State Members of both The UN and THE ARAB LEAGUE (1945) and yet both these miserable and useless, but highly costly organizations or entities, in cahoots with The USA and her allies – the NATO countries – plus The UNSC and the whole IC stood or sat by and looked on with one eye, and looked the other way with the other eye, while SYRIA stomped on and ran amok in LEBANON for almost four decades; and looked the other way with one eye, and looked on with the other eye, while IRAN set up her instruments of war, anarchy, chaos, and havoc – not to mention death and destruction; fear, pain, and sorrow; disruption, displacement, dispersion, anxiety, frustration, misery, and despair: HEZBALLAH and AMAL, and only God knows who else
