322: “GOD” IS NOT “A NOUN” / “GOD” IS “A VERB” / CHRISTIANITY & ISLAM:

“GOD” IS NOT “A NOUN” / “GOD” IS “A VERB” / CHRISTIANITY & ISLAM:

It’s not WHO or WHAT you or your parents were or WHERE you came from or HOW you came; it’s WHAT you did along the way.

After much ponderings, and wanderings through the myriad labyrinths of my mind, and along the back roads by the rivers of my memory, I have come to the conclusion that GOD IS NOT A NOUN; GOD IS A VERB!

The Holy Qur'an and The Holy Bible stand side by side in the small bookcase above my bed, and I have read them both from cover to cover, so to speak; and nowhere, in either book, have I seen any indications, let alone proof, that Christians and Moslems are enemies; although even enemies can, and must learn to, live together by acknowledging and accepting each other's existence, knowing each other's boundaries, and respecting each other's rights and way of life. This also applies to each, any, every, and all the religions practised all over the world. None teach or preach hatred, violence, or intolerance; only love, peace, and tolerance.

When the Bible was written (or collated by Emperor Constantine in 325AD) there were no Moslems, and the first two battles ever fought by the Moslems: Mohammed and his followers, were against their own countrymen: The Qureish and their followers: The Battle of Badr in 624AD, and The Battle of Uhud in 625AD. The Moslem Era began with The Hijra in 622AD.

Also, it was a Christian Monk, Bahira, who introduced Mohammed to the concept of a belief in One God and when Mohammed's followers fled to Ethiopia, it was a Christian King who protected them and refused to hand them over to their enemies, The Qureish. If that Christian King had delivered them into the hands of their enemies, we would all, especially the Moslems, be humming different tunes and singing different songs, today.

A Jihad was a religious duty imposed on Moslems to spread Islam by waging war – it is derived from the Arabic word: Jehed meaning effort. The Crusades was launched by the Western Christian Countries against The Moslems in late 1095 after The Moslems had over-run The Traditional Holy Lands of Christianity.

Today, JIHADS and CRUSADES have become definitely obsolete and absolutely impractical in view of the fact that, in those days it was Man to Man, Face to Face, Eye to Eye, Shield to Shield, and Sword to Sword; with the only missiles being arrows and spears, and the only artillery being the catapult. Today, in view of the sort of highly dangerous Weapons of Mass Destruction at hand, and available to every Tom, Dick, and Harry, and their families, relatives, and friends; and every Ahmed, Ali, and Omar, and their families, relatives, and friends; it would be annihilation – the end of Mankind-the-Apes (as a sorry species), if not all life-forms!

It is very funny and ironic, and highly pathetic and infuriating – all at the same time – the way some vain, vicious, vindictive, malicious, egoistic, power-mad, greedy, mad, heartless, mindless, and Godless fanatics and megalomaniacs misquote, misinterpret, misuse, and mutilate Islam and a once-upon-a-time necessary movement: A Jihad – at the time, but not any more – to give themselves the means, and their followers a reason and an excuse, to achieve their aims of creating their own Dictatorships, Despotisms, Tyrannies, Dynasties – supported by Oligarchies – Kingdoms, or even Caliphates.

In the History of the Arabs, I read about all the various Dynasties, from the Omayyads, Abassids, Fatimids, Ayyoubids, Mamelukes, Othmans, Mohammed Ali's Family, to the Hashemites; there was no mention or trace of Christians, except in a supportive role. It was mostly Moslems against Moslems. Those were Eras of Madness; such a useless, senseless, hopeless, piteous, hideous, atrocious, and inhuman waste of efforts, and lives.

Peoples of all nations and/or religions are like the black and white keys of the piano. They must learn to live and be together; otherwise they cannot play the tune of life. They must, if they wish to survive, consider themselves adversaries and not enemies in the game of life. They must compete against each other in acts of kindness, pity, mercy, compassion, hospitality, generousity, understanding, acknowledgement, acceptance, and tolerance towards one another; and not by killing each other; because if you can convince people to change their ideas and their way of life, you win; if you kill them, they die with their ideas and way of life intact. You lose the game, and gain a lot of hatred and enmity, too, to boot.

Also, we would do well to remember that we do not choose our religion; it is forced upon us by the environment and circumstances, and the geographical locations, of our births – Lebanon is one of the smallest countries on the planet and yet one could be born a Maronite, a Catholic, a Sunni, a Shiite, a Druze, a Buddhist, or whatever – and that Mankind, the APES are creatures of habits, the products of their environments, and the victims of their circumstances.

Finally, in the end, it is not who you or your parents were, or what your religion was, or where you came from, or how you came; it is what you did along the way.

I remember a short recitation we were taught when we were young and still at school in Ghana. Actually, they did not teach it to us as much as chiseled it into our brains:

God will not seek thy name

Nor will He ask thy birth.

Alone, He will demand of thee

What hast thou done on earth?
